  • ...NRK for their webcast of the Norwegian national final MGP 2009

This was the only award to be chosen internally based on the suggestions (and their reasons) as made by the readers. It was decided that this award is given to the Norwegian broadcaster. The webcast of all Norwegian shows were almost always running well for most people, but the main reason for this award is the fact that all shows could be watched for free on demand after the live broadcast. In fact final can still be found online along with shows of previous years.

The 2009 esctoday.com National Final Award for BEST VOTING SYSTEM goes to...

  • ...SVT for the voting system of the Swedish national final Melodifestivalen 2009

Semi finals: The finalists are chosen by televoting in two rounds of voting. In the first round the top four are chosen, but the bottom three are already announced before the close of the voting and eliminated. The top four compete in pairs and the favourite of each pair qualifies for the final. The other two entries enter the second chance round. Furthermore, an international jury chooses its favourite of each heat, which would be in the running for a wildcard in the final.
Second chance round: The eight songs compete in pairs. Televoting chooses the favourite of each pair to move forward to the second round, where the formula is repeated and two finalists are chosen.
Final: An international jury and eleven regional juries all give 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 points to their top seven songs. The top seven of the televoting are then given 24, 48, 72, 96, 120 and 144 points.

@ Max
Well the Norwegian webcast worked perfectly for me

Don't know how many national finals I'll be able to watch in 2010, my computer is going slower so they might not work as well :(

Gratulerer, Söta bror :D

@ Max Raspail
Very true about our webcast, it sucked big time even for me as a citizen. But that was because NRK hadn't changed media player version yet, therefore it was bad in quality and stream. Now NRK uses their own designed media player, which works awesomly better :D

What will be revealed today? Best male and best uptempo performance. Who will win? Mans or Mans?

Max Raspail [36649]

NRK had the best webcast??? That must be a joke...
It was stopping and buffering all the time, even Albania had a stable, steady webstream - it was really awful that Norway failed to do so...

Stine
Ofc you norweigans are always jealous at sweden :O slampa !

W s
oh,well I did not like that NF, so hum not every one took like it or love it, it seems

Keith Timmons [44873]

In the end, that is. I think I left that out.

@Kevin: Absolutely, I tried to watch the British, Norwegian, Swedish, Belarusian and Russian national finals last year from Asia and the Norwegian one was the only one that didn't work.

As for MF winning all the awards, well what else is new, we have many lovers of Swedish cheese among us here at ESCtoday. Although I think Norwegians should be allowed to criticise MF without having to defend the Norwegian selection system (which is totally out of their control anyway), I do agree with Stine that in the end what matters in the end is not who had the best NF but who won the ESC.

Tue 17 Nov 2009 13:07:21

Yeah right, someone from Norway is jealous of Sweden. That reminds me: who had the better results in the last two contests?

And layla is so right about the Dutch final. I remember the poll here on esctoday. The big majority of the people who watched the show either loved or liked it. Only a small percent didn't like it.

I would not agree with NRK getting Best Webcast, as i can not see the webcast at all...aparently my bitrate is too low or something

everytime i try to watch for the last 3 years, the same thing has come back up :S

Well like the norweigan election was any better Layla...... obv you are just jealous.

I wouldnt be, who cares if MF wins every single category, Norway still won ESC, which is what really matters. :D

We all know MF is huge among the big ESC fans, but in the end MF means nothing to the majority of voters in Europe. They can have all the glitter and glam they want, its pretty clear given Sweden´s recent ESC results, it makes no difference. They still end up picking the wrong song.
So by all means, MF can win every single category in this contest, still wont get them a decent result in ESC... clearly.

Maybe we should cancel this awards, since every MF act will win in all categories :P

Michael UK [23926]

@ LAYLA
you criticise MF for being cheesy , then gloss over the fact that the dutch final was cheesy with bad songs as if that were ok!
the winning song this year in MF was the peoples choice , it wasnt my personal favourite , far from it, but you ca hardly criticise the result of televoting in a national final, its what the swedish public wanted
the MF format works and is being copied. remember the old saying, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".

Results as expected really. MF is the one that everybody talks about and it is a great show, but I don't think the voting system is the best option.

Layla Al-Magnuna [58775]
Tue 17 Nov 2009 09:04:32

I just think that this year there were many good NF's and good quality webcasts so for MF to win with over 50% of all is ridiculous.

Layla Al-Magnuna [58775]
Tue 17 Nov 2009 08:59:50

@Michael UK
If they were then they would all be cheesy and ESC would have been even gayer and lost me as a viewer and I wouldn't be the only one.

Best staging and presentation to Sweden is ridiculous. They use playback background singers, right? That alone is reason enough for them to not deserve this award! Terrible, terrible change they made... And most of the songs were bad and lame choreography. Totally undeserved to let them win "best presentation" with playback and a rude host, lol. But of course, not unexpected, so predictable.

And even worse is that they won the best voting system because that it most definitely isn't! The second chance round is completely unnecessary and only to suck more money out of voters and giving the artists a false hope. They should remove this in MGP too. Second chance rounds SUCK! Plus the international jury was f'ing unnecessary and had awful taste! And the juries usually suck, so do the televoters. Atually, Sweden never vote for the songs I like in MF (yes it does happen)... Hmmm...

I find it unfair this whole voting and I think a lot of ESC fans just praise MF too much out of habit, it is so overrated. Did anyone watch Netherland's NF this year??? They had a superb webcast in good quality and a well made presentation. Maybe the songs were cheesy as hell and bad, but the show was very professional looking, lol. So was Danish MGP, UK and I also think Macedonian NF is so underrated.

Well said New in Town. It's good to know there's someone out there who I agree with.

The winners are all starting to look a little tedious to me.
