National Final Awards: The winners are... (3)
The 2009 esctoday.com National Final Award for BEST DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE goes to...
- ...Alcazar for their performance of the song Stay the night in the Swedish national final
Alcazar has been founded in 1999 and the band enjoyed major success in Europe, especially with the song Crying at the discotheque, which samples the 1979 Sheila & the B. Devotion song Spacer and their own song This is the world we live in. With a different line-up, the band had already competed in the Swedish national finals in 2003 (with Not a sinner, nor a saint) and 2005 (with Alcastar) finishing third on both occasions after qualifying through the second chance round. In 2009, the band finished fifth with the current line-up that includes Andreas Lundstedt, Therese Merkel and Lina Hedlund, who also co-wrote the song Stay the night.
The performance:
This the third time this award goes to Sweden. Previous winners were Swedish BWO in 2007 and 2008 and German group Monrose in 2007. This year, the complete results were as follows:
- Sweden - 46.6%
- Noa & Mira Awad (Israel) - 21.8%
- Melody & Dancers (Spain) - 13.7%

The entry eventually finished second in MGP 2009 behind the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest winning song Fairytale. The song was also a commercial success reaching number two in the Norwegian single charts and stayed in the top ten for almost three months, which marks the singer's biggest hit so far.
The song (studio version):
This award was given out for the first time and Norway won it ahead of Sweden. The complete results were as follows:

LOL, what a comment!
EMILIA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What makes Emilia more amazing was that she was Swedish and didn't win this award !!
@Axel
Thankyou darling
What i said is the reality and i think once in a while people need to be reminded of that reality.
Angelic, you couldn't have said it in a better way ......
@Keith Timmons
I am glad you thought so, thankyou
Before any Tom, Dick, or Harry begins to attack me personally please note that my comment is a "general" one and not aimed "personally" at anybody
Not at all. I thought it was very well said.

In my personal opinion nobody should think they are superior to nobody on the grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, financial status etc etc because the reality is that WE ARE ALL in the same boat heading in the same direction! Now those who have a brain which actually "serves a purpose" should understand fully what i mean by that
Axel, I just take people as individuals, some people you get on with and some you don't, a person's ethnicity, sexuality etc doesn't come into it. I've known and worked with people from all types of backgrounds from all over the world and in human terms the similarities are much greater than the differences. I've also been victimised and suffered discrimination so I know how that feels too. C'est la vie
Daniel,
we can only hope that our friend Layla will be confronted with the issue at some part in her life... she will change her views, believe me. My parents were very anti, but he once your son is like that, you start to have a closer look. And gay, straight, white, black or whatever is just not important. We are all human beings with feelings, so for whoever wants to say something, think twice before insulting or hurting people.....
It really surprises me that so many people seem to think it's OK to make a negative comment about something by calling it 'gay'. I'm sure they wouldn't think it is acceptable to do the same thing by referring to a skin colour, gender, disability or religion (even though religion is just a belief while sexuality is part of a person's makeup).
As always I agree Togravus... if that's the only thing you can come up with, Layla, just say nothing.....
Well Done to the winner
Layla
I guess that a lot of people (including humble togravus ceterum) would be very grateful if you kept your homophobic prejudices (gay equals cheap pop and schlager) to yourself. Thanks.
Ugh, sorry but this is just so gay, gay, gay all around...
I love "Butterflies" and I'm happy about Alcazar. I think it's about time for Sweden to give Alcazar an ESC chance.
alcazar is more of the same .. really bad !... too schlager. !
Butterfly a mid-tempo song? Then they're not counting bpm, are they? It may be mellow, but it's not mid-tempo. But these are probably the same people who called Ero Stupendo a ballad, so why bother. Congrats to the both of them, I can't wait to see which award Sweden will win tonight.
great , alcazar really should have gone to moscow
Well; being Norwegian I guess I should be happy for the award that goes to "Butterflies", but this is one of two categories where I really wanted the Swedish nominee to win;
I LOVE "You're My World" and I seriously don't like "Butterflies"...or Tone. Had this been a beauty-contest she'd be my favourite, no doubt, but she's not a very strong singer, and I find that more important in a SONG contest.
Congrats to both winners, though I voted for Passionworks
Really glad "Butterflies" gets an award. I'd have preferred it to go to Moscow over "Fairytale"
I do love Alcazar
'Stay the night' again, ugh!!!
Israel should have won =P
