Dutch smurfs on stage in Oslo?
The Netherlands: Pierre Kartner composes Dutch entry
The successor of The Toppers is not known yet at the moment, as TROS won’t reveal anything yet about their further plans for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. The Dutch entry in Oslo will be performed in Dutch language though. What was announced, though, is that the commentary will be provided by DJ Daniël Dekker and Cornald Maas.
Pierre Kartner is known outside the Netherlands for his global hit The Smurf Song which sold more than 30 million copies worlwide. Another song, Het kleine café aan de haven, was covered by The Fureys and might be better known as Red Rose Café
Kartner is not a total stranger in the world of Eurovision, as he wrote the Dutch entry back in 1973 as well. Ben Cramer became 14th with De oude muzikant.
Commentator Cornald Maas reacted with enthusiasm on the initiative taken by TROS: ‘Last year, Andrew Lloyd Webber put the festival back on the map in the United Kingdom. Perhaps Pierre Kartner, the Lloyd Webber of the Netherlands, might succeed as well in getting a good result for our country. Besides that, I look forward to working with Daniël Dekker. It’s a logical step from TROS to ask him as a commentator. However I feel honoured that the broadcaster appreciates my expertise as well.’

Anyway, what's wrong with the Netherlands ? After last year's disaster, a 74 year-old composer for 2010 ?! Instead of crying about the voting system, they'd rather put efforts in chosing a credible team.
I just looked it up, arround 250 artist around the world have covered his song kleine cafe aan de haven... that is not nothing... i don't see Johnny Logan doing the same thing :-)
Hey, he wrote on of the biggest hits ever, and i'm not talking about the smurfs, i'm talking about (kleine cafe aan de haven)
It's been covered many times in many languages... maybe he can write a new classic?
Not sure what to think about this news... after the Dutch junior win, I was hoping for something really good...

I listened those songs wioth smurfs now and If entry will be smth like that OMG, I will die of laughing!!!

Anyway... i hope the best for Netherlands in ESC 2010 beacuse is pitty that wonderfull countrey to send rapish and all the time to be out of the final. 
Another Ballad!?
As in one of the thousand ballads already chosen for 2010 (none), another ballad from the NL (2005 was the last one) .. LOL Every country has the right to send ballads right?

Well esctoday get the Socrates pic of him up, the Father has spoken.. he says it's not going to be a 'I love you' song but something original.. and a ballad.. (Well aren't we used to original subjects from the Father)

The song with the smurfs from him is cute. ;-) It was a big hit in Germany and I think that even today most people know it.

I'm not sure he could write something contempory enough that would appeal to the 18- 25 year old category which make up about 30% of the viewing figures..
I've never heard of him before, the only famous composer that springs to mind when I think eurovision is Johnny Logan, if he were to write a song I would then think 'woah top 5' but atm im thinking 'hmmm...'

I remember my very 1st CD-Album...from Vader Abraham & die Schlümpfe (German for Smurfs:-).
"Het kleine café aan de haven" was in Germany a great Hit, too under the Name "Die kleine Kneipe in unserer Straße" (the little Taverne in our Street).
& we will hear Duch Language after so many Years:-)
It´s sad, that there is no open Competition, but better, than boring English Ballad. Please, take something with Rhythm. After so many Countries think, they have to send Ballads as boring as possible send a Song for real Fans, that makes us happy:-)
