Justin Lee Collins goes for Eurovision glory!

Top British comedian and TV personality Justin Lee Collins is attempting to participate in 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo. Rather than singing for the United Kingdom, Justin has taken the challenge of representing another country in the contest. In his search to find a suitable country Justin is considering a number of different possibilities and has this week visited Estonia, Andorra and Spain to explore the possibility of taking in part in their national finals. A camera crew from Tiger Aspect are currently recording Justin's effort for a special documentary to be shown on Channel FIVE in the UK in 2010.

As well searching for a country to represent, Justin has placed an advertisement in this weeks The Stage publication to find a song for his Eurovision campaign. All songs submitted must be in English and must not have had a public performance or have been made publicly available in any format. Composers are invited send a CD, lyric sheet, contact details and brief explanation describing what the song is about. All composers must state their nationality, as this will affect which county the song can be submitted to. Submissions are to be made to Corinne Brown, 5, Soho Square, London, W1D 3QA by 18 December 2009.

Justin is a self-confessed Eurovision Song Contest fan, having watched the contest since an early age. For this Eurovision campaign he has consulted and received support from music experts including EBU officials, journalists, past Eurovision performers, OGAE UK, esctoday.com and fans of the contest.
Over the last few years Justin has established himself to become one of most loved and popular TV performers in the UK with appearances on numerous shows including The Sunday Night Project, alongside fellow comedian Alan Carr. He has hosted a number of Bring Back... shows in which he reunites groups, normally associated with TV shows, or music bands.

Most recently he has appeared on a successful six-part series on Sky1 that showed the comedian taking on challenges to become a mexican wrestler, a surfer, a ballroom dancer, a ten pin bowler, a high diver and a West End star. In these shows Justin would typically show a positive attitude towards the subject matter alongside a gritty determination to succeed in the task at hand. Evidence of Justin’s vocal talent can be seen in the West End episode of Justin’s show in which he takes a starring role in the musical Chicago.

Bah, in 2007 Bonite Leydemann (aka EuroDiva) submitted her song "Lovely hair" to the NFs of UK, Poland, Latvia, Malta, Romania and FYROM and other countries I didn't remember.
The result = nothing.

Ireland probably (I hope) will take 2010 seriously..
Justin would be another fail because the UK can't vote in Irelands SF anyway

I don't really like this idea but In all fairness to Justin, I watched this on TV and he embraced the opportunity to perform on the West End whole-heartedly and was dead nervous about it!

So I get it a British comedian (not singer) wants to make mockery of the contest again. He says he is a fan ....but he is also a comedian. If he was serious about the contest he would
have approached the BBC about singing for the UK...that is if he can sing at all. I hope Andorra, Spain or Estonia shut the door in his face. We do not need people like this in the contest.

I've read that's he might represent Ireland with Ronan Keating writing the song.

I think JLC would take it seriously, he's a funny guy!! He's actually got quite a good voice...How funny would it be if he did manage to represent a country and won :D Now that would be something worth watching :P

"Over the last few years Justin has established himself to become one of most loved and popular TV performers in the UK"

Obviously the writer of this article isn't British.

I thank the god I don't believe in he's not singing for the UK. *cringes*

I enjoy watching those shows mentioned up above, and he is a surprisingly decent singer. He may take it seriously, since he did a programe where he became a ventriloquist, which he took seriously.
Very early in his career he did stand up comedy, but he hated it, and he wasn't very good at it! Look it up on youtube!

I saw Justin Lee Collins do this kind of thing with a look-alike convention in the US. He did a Tom Jones impersonation and he was really good. He always goes at these things with a lot of enthusiasm and I think if he did end up representing a country he'd do his best to do well for them and take it seriously. He is a comedian, but it's not like Alf Poier or Guildo Horn or that Estonian group from 2008 coming along and taking the proverbial. Good luck to him.

As long as it doesnt turn the whole thing into a joke...

there's a separate format for that (its called stand up comedy)

NO MORE JOKE ENTRIES

@ Dany Zack

There is a programme called the Sunday Night Project, they moved the show from Fridays to a Sunday. You are getting old episodes in Israel before they moved it for a couple of series a couple of years ago.

Justin told me on Tuesday when i met him in Tallinn that he don't want to make any comedy act for Eurovision..he really wants to sing a good song and do it as goog as possible. He also performed next morning in Estonian TV morning program "Terevisioon" and it was quite good i think..thou fonogram was played from some kind of karaoke cd i think. You can watch it here: http://etv.err.ee/arhiiv.php?id=100407
Justin performs when clock on right up corner shows about 7:20 or a bit later

The show with Alan Carr is NOT "The Sunday Night Project", it's "The Friday Night Project" - one of the best shows on TV. I watch it in Israel all the time, and I love it.

@Layla: I agree. This sounds like exactly the kind of attitude that got the UK where they are now. No more pisstakes, no more naff jokes, no more circus. If he's not going to take the contest seriously, he shouldn't participate at all - which I'm sure won't happen anyway. After all, why on earth would Spain want to be represented by a daft British comedian? Not very likely.

Layla Al-Magnuna [58775]

So he doesn't want to represent UK because he knows it would decrease their chances.

Even if he could sing, I don't like this idea. It all just sounds like another comedic challenge for him. I'd rather not see another comedian in ESC.

He should try Ireland, if their selection rules don't change from last year.

Ha ha ha. LOVE Justin...

...but glad that he won't be representing the UK ;)

Perhaps Andorra might take him on? Might get enough interest to see them through to the final perhaps? Wonder if JLC is fluent in Catalan ;)

He's got a good singing voice, so if he wanted to enter, that wont be the problem... I guess the concern people have with comedians entering is whether they will take it seriously enough. He appeared to take on the theater challenge seriously however. I wish him well in his endeavours.

He MUST be Spanish citizien to participate in TVE's national selection.

he'll get the UK 12

and to be honest if hes not entering for the UK does this mean the BBC have something in mind? :D

what a tw*t.

i hate this man now.

Ben Gray [44512]

O...kayyy....

Well I sort of like him and he does always try hard at these random self-challenging stunts even if the point of them is... well there IS no point in them. He makes results but never any success. As long as he isn't going for the UK then that's quite alright, Channel 4 were still gunning for that talentless weird Russian "Angel" from Big Brother a few months ago and nothing happened there. Still, this should be good for a laugh!

Let me guarantee you all though, this is nothing to worry about. He won't be singing for anyone in Oslo. He'll make a proper bid, probably, but it won't go anywhere. At the absolute least.
