Spektrum surrendered to him
Rybak stars at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert
The concert was hosted by the American actor and singer Will Smith and his wife, the actress and singer Jada Pinkett. The show featured a total of ten acts that performed in front of an absolutely crowded Oslo Spektrum.
Alexander was one of the guest artists yeasterday evening. He gave a fascinating performance of Fairytale, the song that brought him success both in his home country, Norway, and abroad. The other nine acts that performed in Oslo were the Irish band Westlife, Natasha Bedingfield, Wyclef Jean, Donna Summer, Toby Keith, Lang Lang, Luis Fonsi, Amadou & Mariam and Esperanza Spalding.
This year's winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, President of the United States Barack Obama could not attend the concert, although the hostess of the show, Jada Pinkett, said that Mr Obama "would love to be here tonight, but he is absolutely here with us in spirit".

Melissa Kutcher:
Hopefully Toby Keith, who is one of the United States biggest music acts, recognizes Alexander's talent, and Toby may help Alexander here in the USA!
He may get some help from Wyclef Jean also. He spent one hour in the recording studio with Alexander while he was in Oslo. He also said in a tv-interview that Alexander would take part on his new record with 2-3 songs. I don't know if that is going to happen or not, but he said it
Wyclef's performance when he sang "sweetest girl" was so great. The crowd (both young and old) were dancing and having a good time in their suits =) http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=Dq2GB7mdNI8
Btw. I also wish they would bring back live orchestra. It creates so much more atmosphere. I love KORK (The Norwegian Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra), they are so amazing and would do a great job in ESC 2010). They can play anything equally good!

Lina, there were two American singers, Toby Keith and Donna Summer.
how and they didnt choose American singer
i m supriced
I live in the United States, and if President Obama had stayed for the concert, his critics would have lambasted him and his wife Michelle for attending the concert instead of working on improving the economy and reforiming health care.
Now that is taken care of, I admire Alexander's spirit in continueing the show after he dropped his violin. The cameramen covered it very well by focusing on the dancers. The violin did not sound the same after that, but he went on anyway.
Hopefully Toby Keith, who is one of the United States biggest music acts, recognizes Alexander's talent, and Toby may help Alexander here in the USA!
There is an active campaign to bring back the orchestra, or at the very least to remove the outright ban on live instruments on stage. It is available at the following links.

Please sign the petition and/or join the facebook group if you support this idea and if you don't well some of the major problems people have with the orchestra/live music being brought back are dealt with here... http://esclivemusic.(...)troducing-live-music
@Zohar
I don't think it is ignorant, it is an opinion, which everyone is entitled to. The masses might be the majority, but that doesn't necessarily make it right, lol.
Congrats..but I don't like him!
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't mourn the loss of the orchestra, BUT it''s irrelevant in the 21st century.
I disagree with this completely. Equate orchestra with "live music" and based on what I know of people of all ages, live music is preferred when they go to a gig or concert. The loss of the orchestra owes far more to cost cutting than being "irrelevant" in my opinion.
Layla,
I LOVE the orchestra, and the only reason I bothered watching this video, is because of the anticipation of hearing Fairytale totally live, and I loved it
, but just because I love live sound doesn't mean the rest of the world wants to hear it like that. Today the standards are totally different, and the public wants something else than what I want. I could live in my little bubble (which by the way I do) or be realistic and move with the times.
I certainly have no right to call the people of today shallow & dumb. One vs a billion is just ignorant on my behalf, and I have ore serious conflict with the world concerning what is called "Entertainmant" !
But I guess the shallow, dumb people of today would rather spend their time focusing on what clothes to wear, which dancemoves to use, what their hair should look like, styling, fashion and stupid superficial stuff like that. Like Lene Alexandra this year who said some of what she looked forward to most was to be styled by stylists, dress-up and play. That kind of thinking and the fact that ESC does playback music is a bit embarrassing. People must be pretty airheaded.
@Zohar ...
Miss-balance? Irrelevant? Did you even watch the video? Fairytale sounded BETTER with an orchestra on it! Any real performer would be able to perform LIVE so there will be no risking "miss-balance" if they are true performers! Orchestras will never be irrelevant or "outdated".
Aaaaahhh, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't mourn the loss of the orchestra, BUT it''s irrelevant in the 21st century. I doubt any contestant would risk the danger of a miss-balance for the prestige of performing to a big live orchestra.
I am not going to tell ESC-Today what to publish on their site, but it would be interesting if they would ask every participant for 2010 if they would like to sing to live orchestra, or backing tape, or a mix, or play live on top of pre-recorded tracks, or any other option. The site has many editors and connections, it Would be interesting to settle this once and for all.
WOW! This was great! I want orchestra back!
Please update with the Belarusian NF news! 5 new songs and a jury's choice.
OMG, YES! It sounded MUCH better live with an orchestra behind him as well. Much better performance than in ESC. He also sings better now. He's improved. This should prove that an orchestra does not sound outdated and it makes the music richer and more authentic and real. BRING IT BACK!
I hope his performance in ESC again will be similar, but a little more mystic/folky.
What a shame he dropped the violin though so that it sounded false afterwards, poor guy, lol.
Rybak-Ata me'anyen li et ha tachat!
wonder if will smith had ever heard of esc before?
WESTLIFE will be there too
I really hope the EBU brings the orchestra back to eurovision, his song sounds so much better without playback.
What an honour for Alexander to play at this concert! Many congratulations to him. This performance was so much better with live music and more people on stage. I hope a similar performance will be prepared for the opening of Eurovision 2010!!
amazing with the orchestra!
Oh my God! It sounds amazing with live music!
woowwww!!!! even better than in eurovision
