Withdrawal confirmed
Definitely, no Andorra in Oslo
The reasons laying behind the Andorran withdrawal are purely financial. The station's budget for 2010 is very limited and not enough to prepare a successful Eurovision participation, as previously reported.
One month ago, the decision to withdraw from the competition was almost 100% sure, but anyway the public broadcaster applied to participate in 2010 just in case the executive board of RTVA would allow the station to participate. Now, the director of the public broadcasting service, Mr. Enric Castellet, has sent a letter to the EBU in order to withdraw that application.
Andorra has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2004. The country has never been able to qualify to the final, but was close in 2007 with the group Anonymous and the song Salvém el món. The last Andorran representative was Susanna Georgi, this year in Moscow, singing La teva decisió (Get a life).

@Chris Ellaby
U will vote for Andorra next time, although u wouldn't know the song at first?
I voted for Andorra this year, so I'll save next year's vote and send even more votes next time Andorra is in the competition. Come back soon!
Well done, Andorra. You had no chance at all of getting to the final. You did the best thing. So, congratulations: you have money in your pocket, instead of throwing it to the eurovision-toilet.
Can't say I'm really surprised, but it's sad...
I hope for a return in 2011. Andorra would have a good chance reaching the final with the new jury-system.
Fins la proxima vegada l'Andorra meva.
... is really bad. bye bye andorra and bye bye our language of Europe
@Night Elf i realy hope that , but i thing after 3 - 5 years we must start wait in reality such thing.
@Lina
Well since Andorra and Montenegro withdraw for first time I can't say anything about that...
Hungary has such a great singers... It's a shame really, I think they could win easily if they put in effort to send something good...
I still hope for San Marino, Lichtenstein, Monaco, Luxembourg, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Montenegro, Andorra, Czech Republic, and perhaps Morocco and Lebanon to come back... That would be GREAT !!! Hehe big wishes !!! LOL
@eugeniu .com
Super?
@Night Elf, personal i have sure Andorra and Montenegro participation in ESC 2011 , i dontknow for Hungary beacuse for me that countrey was never a standar and trust ESC countrey beacuse Hungary withdraw 3 times in 14 years and also was out from ESC for many years , personal i wait every year Hungary's withdrawing for one or other reason
@Lina
U are very optimistic
Well I hope it will be that way... I also hoped that Andorra won't withdraw this year and it happened... Now I am waiting for Latvian and Lithuanian official confirm.
The more the merrier
Rather miserable that they wouldn't allow foreign sponsorship as it would also be free-marketing for the country. I like the way they have made an effort (albeit a small one) each year and kept on trying.
super..................
Yeah they had many lame esc entries but their 2007 effort was extremely nice and would have made the final with a 2 SF system! oh well hope to see you soon again!
But and if Lithuania and Latvia withdraw each semifinal participation will be 16 , so its a good number for 2 semi
@Night Elf this year we have 39 and not 37 participations. Last year was 42 participations , this year: Hungary, Czech Repuplic, Montenegro and Andorra withdraw so 42 - 4 = 38 plus Georgia who rejoin this year = 39 , so 39 - 5 = 34. So each semifinal is going to have 17 participations. But next year countries like Montenegro , Andorra and maybe Hungary is going to rejoin ESC so if other 3 - 4 countries withdraw will be same thing like this year ...17 or 16 countries in each semifinal
Also Lithuania and Latvia is not going to withdraw this year i m sure about that.
@Lina
I wouldn't be so sure some countries will be back so soon..If we have 37 countries this year (- 5 that are already qualified) that means 32 will compete in semi... And if ur theory is right only 4 more countries has to withdraw so we will have 1 semi again...
But even if we have 29 countries that is limit for 2 semis there would be one semi with 15 and one with ONLY 14 countries... imagine only 14... That is so lame.
It can happen easily next year. But i hope it wont.
@Night elf , to have only 1 semi participation countries ( exept host and big 4 countries) must be under 29, and i thing that will not happen very easy beacuse that countries who withdraw this year they will participate next year and other countries will withdraw ( if withdraw ) , but withdrawing will continue utlist until ESC 2012 in my oppinion and especially from ex soviet and ex yugo block.
Actually sorry, counted Lithuania and Latvia out... that way we have only 37 countries and lame semis....
I really hope this two will stay !
This is such a sad news
So let me get this str8... Now we have 37 countries (if Lithuania don't withdraw) which means:
1st semi 16 countries
2nd semi 16 countries
final 5 countries
and if Lithuania withdraws as well we will have one semi with ONLY 15 countries... and only 5 will be eliminated from that semi... LAME !!!
Still better 2 semis with 15 countries than one.
I'm afraid if this continues next year they will have to bring back 1 semi... If few more countries withdraw we will have semis with 12 countries... that would be ridiculous.
Guys normal this year half of ESC countries should withdraw beacuse of economical crisis and is miricle that only 3 countries withdraw for that reason. So we have to be happy about that. And personal i thing same is going to happen in ESC 2011 ( with other countries to withdraw of course ), from ESC 2012 will start slowly slowly countries participation number to be biger than 40 .
sad news.Economy is going badly everywhere!
Bad , bad, bad !! But i was waiting that news
Such a shame
I really liked their 2009 entry! I hope they return in 2011.
That´s a shame...and bad news for Portugal too. But im sure in 2011 they will come back stronger and they will reach the final.
Nooooo!! I liked Andorra!
Sucha shame
I love Andorra at ESC and they have reprented themselves brilliantly and showed other mini states how its done !
But maybe as they cant afford it this year, they will b back stronger in 2011
