Il pleut de l'or

Switzerland: Michael von der Heide for Eurovision 2010

As announced earlier this afternoon, Swiss television has decided upon their representative for Oslo. Out of over 60 submitted entries, an internal jury has chosen Schlager singer Michael von der Heide with his song Il pleut de l'or to represent Switzerland at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Norway. Von der Heide will present his song to the public for the first time on January 9th, 2010 at the television show SwissAward.

Michael von der Heide has been working in the Swiss music scene since 1996, already having released numerous albums and given lots of concerts. Swiss television states to be glad about being represented at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest by an artist who is established in the Swiss music scene. However, this isn’t the first attempt for the singer to get a ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest: In 1999, he reached 6th place at the German preselection with a song called Bye Bye Bar.

In a first statement about his participation at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, von der Heide expressed his enthusiasm about the contest, stating that it is a childhood dream come true. He also said that he is not afraid to fail as he is geared to those singers who achieved great success for Switzerland, such as Lys Assia and Celine Dion, who both won with a song in French language.

The 7 starter countrys in 1956 doesn't have the idea that the Eurovision Song Contest is a religion or a politic choice. The Song Contest is the music-European Championchip and not a fight for debility person who can't accept a democratic vote. Shame on you

Good lock for Michael von der Heide

I am really schocked about certain reactions here.... This is a MUSIC site, not a political forum..... If all the muslim countries were as tolerable towards other religions, you can open your mouths, untill then please keep quiet because you are very annoying.

What? Is this a political forum?

Dont be so childish you turks!
Christians in Istanbul are not even free to show their religion!
And Istanbul is known as being a tolerant, modern city :S Christians in Istanbul have to do their Christian services in basements! Just because they dont get permission to build a church.
Besides, Switzerland is not forbidding mosques, they just said NO to more minarets. There's no problem at all.

You should just vote for the song you like.

This should be about music only:

BUT:

as far as I remember the Mohammed cartoons have been made by Denmark and NOT Norway ...

and I hope all those muslim countries are as open & tolerant as the western countries .... as far as I know there are NO CHURCHS (and no other relgion) allowed in Saudia Arabia and many many other countries, many have been burned down and even in Turkey Christians (priests) have been killed (there was one case lately)

.... and now let's be friends and talk about Euovision and music :-) and stop political messages.

@ Sebastian,

And smt more. I'm Orthodox myself. Defending Swiss Muslims' right doesn't mean automaticlly I'm Muslim as well.

@ Sebastian,

Minaret is an integral part of a mosque. So, Switzerland just shows it's twice-faced character: no mosque is built without a minaret, just like a human being has his/her arms and legs.

At least somebody who can sing and is a good live performer. Like him.

@Montenegro Mediterraneo: You still can build your mosque and you still can practice your faith in Switzerland. You just can't build a minaret anymore.

Ever heard of the Christian priests in Turkey who need armed (!) bodyguards?

ESC is never about politics and should never be a reason to vote or not to vote for a country! Music is all that matters, but I'm affraid I will not like the swiss entry this year...

ESC was founded for music, can't you understand that? I don't defend anything. You're as fanatic as those people who voted for such a silly law.

I'm interested in music, wheather it is of a cristian or jewish or muslim country I DON'T CARE !! I just look at the lyrics, melody and performance, and so should you.

The rest is matter of politicians, and not of music amateurs.

@ Paco Roncero,

And it is not someone's personal opinion, but the whole World saw the results of Switzerland's referendum: no more minaret is allowed!

@ Paco Roncero,

THEN do not defend such a rasicm as Swizerland's ban minaret, but shame on! There are 500.000 Muslims in Switzerland who have a right to build a new worship places as current four are not enough at all. And there are some Eurovision states with Muslim majority that you should respect ( and expect pts from). ESC was created as transeuropean project for all cultures of.

@ Paco Roncero,

But in Azerbaijan nad Turkey it is allowed to build a new church, and in Switzerland it is no longer possible! Such a fascism by Swizerland!

Ankara: Swizerland - zero
Baku: Switzerland - zero
Sarajevo: Switzerland - zero

I really wouldn't consider Michael von der Heide a Schlager singer!

His dance at the 'Laisser Tomber les filles' video makes me smile XD

Not sure about his singing though, better wait for the song.

@ Paco Roncero,

The European Court in Strasburg, as you mentioned, should indeed decide if Switzerland and Norway have a right to participate in the ESC for their Islamophobia (and the two Eurovision states, Turkey and Azerbaijan, have a crescent on their national flag).

@Montenegro Mediterraneo
This is a song contest, you vote for your favourite song. If you voted for Switzerland because you liked the song it doesn't mean you are supporting them in any politics. I'm sorry you can't separate music from politics.

Paco Roncero [26098]
Sun 20 Dec 2009 18:26:41

Eurovision is not a fan's support club, where you just vote for a nice country. Every televoter is supposed to judge quality independently where the song comes from. Finally, we should have juries only, as televotres aren't objectif and don't care about music.

Eurovision is not football, when do people understand!!

Paco Roncero [26098]
Sun 20 Dec 2009 18:18:22

@Montenegro Mediterraneo

You still haven't understand. This is not a political blog. Eurovision song contest was founded back in 1956 to bring different cultures and music through out Europe. If you wanna discuss politics, go elsewhere. Here we speak about music !!!

Complain you in the European Court in Strasburg, but not here and not under Eurovision Song Contest Flag.

bye

Sun 20 Dec 2009 18:08:53

@ Paco Roncero,

As long as some countries, like Switzerland and Norway, have done anti-Muslim movements, there's no reason to support them. EUROSONG was created to unite different cultures, and Switzerland (minaret's ban) and Norway (insulting cartoons of Mohammed) are doing quite opposite!

Paco Roncero [26098]
Sun 20 Dec 2009 17:44:08

@Montenegro Mediterraneo

We are speaking about music in this blog. If you wanna speak about politics, change blog, please.

@ Paco Roncero,

Because of your Islamophobia, a lots of peole in Swizerland will have no place for worship. Should I support a Christian radicalisation in Swizerland like it is an Islamic one in Saudi Arabia?

No new minaret in Switzerland and no church in Saudi Arabia!
Shame on you!

Paco Roncero [26098]
Sun 20 Dec 2009 17:07:38

@Montenegro Mediterraneo

Because of statments like yours, the 50/50 has been introduced in semis, too. It's a song contest and not a political fight.

Your statment prooves, that televoting has nothing to do with the song contest itself
