esctoday.com Awards 2009

Estonian team wins Most creative effort award

The votes for the fourth annual esctoday.com awards have been cast over the last three and a half weeks and now it is time to reveal the results. We continue with the Most creative effort award.

The 2009 esctoday.com Award for Most creative effort goes to...

  • ..Rändajad of Estonia, written by Sven Lõhmus and performed by Urban Symphony

Rändajad was the Estonian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009. Performed by Urban Symphony, it finished third in the second semi final and sixth in the final.

  • You can find the list of all award results revealed so far this year here

The winner

This is the second esctoday.com award for Estonia both this year and overall having achieved their first award yesterday in the Best duo/group performance category. This award was given out for the first time.

The Estonian entry was written by Sven Lõhmus. Rändajad was probably the first Eurovision Song Contest to mix Electronic music with a classical strings arrangment. Sandra Nurmsala is one of the few lead singers to have also played the violin on stage, the only others being Egon Egemann (Switzerland 1990) and Alexander Rybak (Norway 2009). Sven Lõhmus owns a record label in Estonia and he is actually best known for writing more classic music including songs for Vanilla Ninja and the 2005 Estonian entry Let's get loud.

The complete results

This was a very tight decision and the Estonian entry won with only 0.2% ahead of the Ukrainian entry Be my Valentine (Anti-crisis girl). The voting between the third and fourth place was equally close but saw the Portuguese entry finishing ahead of the winning entry from Norway. Armenia closes the category.

  1. Estonia - 25.7%
  2. Ukraine - 25.5%
  3. Portugal - 17.8%
  4. Norway - 17.7%
  5. Armenia - 13.4%

well this was tough... urban symphony was greatm but norway were also deserving as it successfully incorporated norwegian folk with pop and frikar were awesome... somehow slutlana still should have won for me, any woman who boldy displays that the grand canyon has nothing on her nether regions deserves something....

Portugal was my best here, and Estonia was second. Ukraine was second only by 0.02% less. How on earth is this possible???
