esctoday.com Awards 2009

Ukraine wins Best preview video award

The votes for the fourth annual esctoday.com awards have been cast over the last three and a half weeks and now it is time to reveal the results. We continue with the Best preview video award.

The 2009 esctoday.com Award for Best preview video goes to...

  • ...Ukraine

Ukraine was represented by Svetlana Lobody in the Eurovision Song Contest. She finished sixth in the second semi final and twelvth in the final with Be my Valentine! (Anti-crisis girl)

  • You can find the list of all award results revealed so far this year here

The winner

This is the second esctoday.com Award for Ukraine this year and the ninth award overall following victories in the category Performance of the year in 2006, 2007 and 2008, Best female performance in 2006 and 2008, Best preview video in 2008, Best dressed act in 2008 and Best stage effects this year. It is therefore the second year in a row that this award goes to Ukraine. The other previous winners of this award were Greece in 2006 and Hungary in 2007.

The video that was created in support of the Ukrainian entry was in fact a compilation of three previous Svetlana Loboda videos, namely Mishka, Postoy muschina and Ne macho. This was not the first time that such a compilation was chosen as a preview video; in 2003 t.A.T.u. created a preview video made of parts of their previous videos in support of the Russian entry Ne ver, ne bojsia

The complete results

Ukraine won this award ahead of Finland. The French video, which was obviously the most plain one amongs those nominated, follows in third place.

  1. Ukraine - 25.7%
  2. Finland - 22.2%
  3. France - 18.9%
  4. Armenia - 16.7%
  5. Spain - 16.5%

The next category to see the winner being revealed will be Best dressed act.

Pitty, that Russia and Belarus made official videos after then preview videos were published, because those are much better...

Ukraine's preview video was one of the best for sure, but I prefer Armenia's, it fits the song perfectly. I agree with the members who said Spain shoud not have been nominated; I know that Bulgaria's song was forgetful, but its video was mch better than Spain's.

Tbh regardless of the song, Ukraine did have a good preview video. It wasn't entirely made of up previous videos either, in quite alot of shots you can see her lip-syncing to the lyrics correctly, and shes wearing the same clothes she did in Moscow, not to mention the hell machine she was dangling off. The thing is, they captured the mood of the song correctly and put it into video, and thats imo what makes a good preview video, and Ukraine did do that in their videos.

OMG, I guess I´ll have to join the "fans have no taste" wagon! Congrats to Ukraine.

Disgusting......... :@

The Greek preview videoclip was miles better than the Ukrainian one...

I wonder why, it wasn't in the list...

If I Russia was nominated, I would vote Russia instead of Ukraine.

@ Morgan S. Trouillet
What makes you believe that you can define what is good or bad taste, and judge that I have a bad taste since I voted for Ukraina?

Spain last? I thought that was the best! Are you sure it's not upside-down lol?

I agree with Mark !! there hasn't been a video this year that's been anything special. Armenia's the only worthy contender if anything.

I thought Belarus, Hungary, Russia and Bulgaria (despite my hatred for the song > :D) should have been nominated personally.

As for the winner, Svetlana??? really??? oh well.

The choice is so hilarious. because actually there was no preview video-clip of the Ukrainian song... it was an editing by previous Loboda's video-clips... lol

YES!! Soooo well deserved!! one of the best prevideos in Eurovision I have ever seen. (Only Belarus 2007 was better)
Armenia also had a cool preview-video this year.
But I really DONT understand why Spain is nominated at all.
Why not Greece, Turkey, Denmark, Germany, Romania or BULGARIA instead??? most of this years participants had better videos than Spain.

No matter it's a compilation of her previous videos, it excellently put together and perfectly matched the song.

This is a joke. It was a compilation of other clips. Finland deserved to win this in my opinion.

There were no real preview videos that made me go wow, or that I really enjoyed. I'd say Armenia or France were the best, maybe Armenia has it was an actual preview video. Shame Ukraine won, as it's just her other song clips put together. But hey ho :D

Great :) Be my Valentine! (Anti-crisis girl) is the best preview video Eurovision ever had.

although it was nice, i didn't vote for it because they didn't actually make a video for it, it was just an amalgomation of her other videos.
