Call for songs launched
Vasiliy Lazarovich, 2010 Ukrainian representative
28-year-old Vasiliy Lazarovich is NTU's choice for Eurovision 2010. After two consecutive female representatives, Ani Lorak (2008) and Svetlana Loboda (2009), the Ukrainian broadcaster has decided to send a male artist to the paneuropean competition, which makes the 5th to be announced this year so far.
A call for songs has been launched. The entry that Vasiliy will sing in Oslo will be selected out of all the submissions, and it is yet unknown whether the procedure will be internal like the choice of the artist or public and televised.

I'd absolutely prefer another person ! But He's Ok !
Good Luck ! I hope he'll be as successful as Ani Lorak or Verka Serduchka ..
He sounds OK.good luck
well done,ukraine.perfect choice.
I'm still in shock about this revelation, Like who is he? Why does he model his look based on a Fat version of Harry Hill? ..
I watched all these music videos, I actualy could not find one song I liked that he performed. All his videos on youTube are rathed 3.. or 4 stars so he is obviously not seen as an amazing artist..
Uugh, before I hear the song I know this will be a strange song with lame music and will stay in the Semi-final thanks to the (wonderfull) Juries..
think Ukraine 2005 all over again.. The shame..
Ukraine's worst song in my opinion. Well it will probably be Ukraine's 2nd worst dong after 2010
This bald devil on the stage will accompany the symphony orchestra. And around him on artificial ice hockey team will circle. Ukraine will win!

news about Lazarovych (in russian)
Oh yeah Verka was a dude lol
for a second there i actualy contemplated the thought that Verka indeed was a woman too
@Layla AL-Magnuna
Well unfortunatley some idiots do vote for looks and I am not one of them.
I love you Ukraine......the best country.
Good luck Ukraine !
Have you forgotten Verka's 2nd place?
WHAT...
Ukraine has to send girls to Eurovision! all their guy representatives FAIL.. remember what happened in Kiev?
Bah..
I was hoping for another Ani Lorak or Ruslana.. not a guy who reminds me of Harry Hill
He doesn't have the "look" to win? He is not good looking? My Lord! I'd rather sleep with this guy than with girlish guys like Harel Skaat, Rybak (yuck, not even in a million years!) or metrosexuals like Sakis Rouvas... He's above of normal, as someone has stated here.
Vasiliy, you have ALL my support!
well i think this could be interesting! None of the songs really strike me as WOW but I actually like his voice, its so slavic. If he sings in ukrainian he could very well impress...me at least lol
in the televoting years the result has had as much to do with visual performance and spectacle as song quality.
marie n won because of the clever costume change
lordi won beacuase of the masks
verka came second becuase of the outrageous costume
marija had a strong ballad but the visual image was also very different, plus a lot of the good songs lost in the semi finals, it was always gonna be an eastern winner that year.
dima won beacause.. well that one escapes me since his voice isnt great live.
now we have 50/50 juries the quality of the song will matter more, for example , patricia kaas would have been much lower with just televoting. introducing juries in semis is long overdue
ugly people can win , as we know from 2007
@ Layla
1998 Dana was a hot transexual!
2002 Marie N is hardly a plain Jane and she did a wee sexy dance lol
2003 had belly dancers
2007 Verka has the same Lordi idea behind it
I'll give you some of them like your Malta woman but its not that we are saying that looks are the be all and end all. It isn't impossible for an unattractive person to do well but it does matter to an extent because looks do limit what a person can actually getaway with doing.
To put it another way Kalomira, Ani Lorak, Helena, Dima... they could all sing a ballad or uptempo and look the part. Now picture Chiara doin her sexy dance to Shady Lady, Secret Combination... it won't cut it really.
With this dude you could give a good song but doesn't mean he'll fit it.
Anyway, if this guy has a good song, then I don't see why he couldn't be winning material because he is not ugly - he is normal. He does have a strong voice, live I do not know.
@Galust Navasardyan
How do you know Portugal didn't reach top 5 because of her looks? Chiara reached 2nd and 3rd, Verka 2nd. Yes, it matters to shallow IDIOTS!!! And I certainly don't want it to be that way. I never vote for appearance and I can only hope others don't.
Marija won, she was not a beauty by today's standards. Charlotte was not a beauty either and the THING Dana International was certainly not a beauty... Neither were Estonia 2001, Olsen brothers or even plain-jane Latvia 2002. Sertab wasn't exactly a beauty either. I don't believe looks is as important as some of you, but I think there are plenty of fools out there who do vote based on looks. We need less of those.
errr, wtf? o.o
I have always loved the Ukraine entries, this time it looks like nothing special
@Danny T
I forgot to add that the guys from lordi without the costumes were pretty good looking dudes and they had a very good song that won fortunatley.
@Danny t
If you saw my first reaction I talked about his voice not being anything special as well. If someone is not good looking they better have a very good song and a very good voice but I don't see that happening with this guy. This is just my opinion.
Those three songs are completely not in line with what I would think of as good. I'd actually go as far as to say they were not good! Shock!
I like his bald head though - it's really shiny in that picture above... more of that please
Btw whoever thinks that looks are important in the contest - sorry but the next turn off for you on the motorway is going to a place called wrong. OK OK I'll give yoy that your not attractive woman won in 2007 but apart from that looks are VERY important! Hot Ani, Hot Dima, Hot Helena, Cute Wee Man from Norway last year can totally equal success!
However the most obvious is Finland 06 for how important looks are - you have to be gorgeous OR be total mental looking. Those lads donned those costumes and that made the entire spectacle inspired! Wouldn't have gotten that now on radio hey?!
He is ok, but I don't think it was the best choice...
His voice isn't so good, but let's see what kind of song he will bring for us.
@Layla Al-Magnuna
I think that looks do matter in this contest. Look back at the winners like Elena Paparizou, Ruslana, Dima Bilan, Alexander Rybak, etc. Also Portugal's song in 2008 was very good and I felt it should have been in the top 5 but because of her looks she was in 13th place which was complete b.s. Also how come people kept on constantly commenting this year on how Alexander Rybak was the cutest boy in the competition. Looks also attract alot of girls and boys that watch this competition that gets them to vote for that person. This is my opinion and looks do matter in this competition and I wish it didn't.
OMG, I am almost shocked by some of these comments, you guys can be so shallow. "He doesn't have the looks to win"???? What sort of comment is that? Please remember it's a song contest, not a beauty contest and if you don't think that's all it is, then your way of thinking is the problem, IMO.
@togravus ceterum
Agreed.
I am so happy that there will not be a half-naked tart this time (may we never see Ani or Slutlana again) and maybe more focus on the song rather than the looks/sex. Unless they provide all that in the NF again in the form of dancers, lol.
I haven't heard of him before and I can't say I loved any of the songs I heard so far, but if the song for ESC is good... He does seem to have a strong voice at least and it might be in Ukrainian this time instead of English...? That would be great.
This is good news I think.
