Finalists announced on January 22nd

79 songs submitted to Eirodziesma 2010

A total of 79 entries have been submitted to the Latvian broadcaster LTV in order to participate at the 2010 Eurovision selection, Eirodziesma. The names of the lucky 10 that will make it to the televised show to be aired on February 27th will be made public in a press conference to be held on January 22nd.

Among the applicants there are some "well-known names" as well as newcomers, the Latvian broadcaster said in a statement made public today.

As already reported, this year's Eirodziesma has been shortened because of financial difficulties involving LTV. As a result of that, the procedure will feature only one show, to be held on February 27th in Ventspils. The show will consist of two parts: in the first one, all 10 hopefuls will compete to qualify to the second part, where the 3 top ranked acts will fight for the honour of representing their country in Oslo. The outcome of the show will be provided by a combination of jury vote and televote at a 50/50 stake.

When it comes to eccentricity, you can't beat Latvia even if they stuff it up big time!

I'm beginning to wonder if the contest is not as popular in some East European countries like here in Iceland. We are 300 thousand and the national tv received 150 songs this year and they said it was pretty low(lower than the year before) and they thought they would receive more because of Yohanna success last year. Estonian tv received 155 song(a record they say),83 in Moldova,79 in Latvia and so on.

While Finland´s selection is bland, Latvia´s is always awful. A true predictable horror show. Why can´t Latvia just stay home for a while?

Probka was in my top 10 last year :) And Brainstorm are among my favourite songs of the decade. Walters and Kazha and Cosmos were also good IMO, and Marie N performance was quite impressive.
Latvia and other Baltic states have no given many points by Serbia, and vice-versa, and most of the erufoans around me would mind if all three of them leave the contest. Opposite to that, I respect Latvian unpredictability - you never know what would they came up with according to previous year (S)

btw, Aisha sounds interesting

@Miss Uncongeniality

I ready through your life story, I feel so sorry for you the hard times you went through to become the person you are today. But in Future you don't have to 'do it' to win beauty shows my love. :P All you need to do is kill the other contestants. Its much better and you will win for sure. even if you then go to jail for a few (hundred) years (L)

@Marko
I have no idea what they will do, but I heard that they carried on the show after their membership was rejected and that some other guy won. :( So I doubt any of those songs will represent Belarus for real now. :( Too bad, because I liked that song, but I didn't like the winner, lol, so maybe it's just a good thing.

I guess nobody knows why the jury chose Finland 09. The studio version may be better, but the live performance was appalling. :@ See you tomorrow. :)

Shevek

I will make a confession now. I voted for Finland in the semi-final ... not because I liked the song but because I had promised mina from Greece (I guess you have met her on esctoday). She voted for Lithuania in my name in the other semi. OMG, we are as corrupt as the EBU!

I don't know anything about that!! :O :O
I thought that song with many ppl in it will win for Belarus, in Russian lang!! :S :O

@Marko
This year? Belarus? :O Those songs are probably not going to be chosen for Eurovision since EBU didn't approve that channel's membership request. Or have you heard any other new ones? :O

@ Shevek
Maybe coz Waldo's ppl were very popular, their official video for "Lose control" is AMAZING, 3 000 000 ppl watched it, and they were 23rd in ESC! :S Studio version of that song isn't bad at al!
Some entries which were higher watched only 200 000 ppl on YT!! :)
But still that's not reason for jury to save them, i still don't know how jury chose Waldo's ppl? :S
Igor Cukrov deserved final and he was saved by jury!!!

Togravus, I said that they were better than frightful Finland 09. The song was not that good but I just could not understand how it was ignored in favour of that extremely annoying Finnish entry. At least he could sing a note.

OMG I agree about Belarus!! It's terrible!! Worse than Ruslan Alekhno 2008 Belarus which I saw live, It was terrible too!! :D
But I didn't like any song from Belarus NF last year, this year they have 2 AMAZING songs, one is in Russian, and I hope It will win! :)

We seem to agree a lot lately ... with the exception of Kok of course.

Shevek, Belarus??? Are you serious??? I had that one around 40th place on my list. I just cannot accept rock contaminated by pop!

And also, I started liking Intars' personality too because he was funny and a little ADHD-material.
His cover of Prince's "Kiss" was so funny! :D

Yes, Togravus and Marko, sorry for bursting in like this guys, Latvia 09 and Belaruss 09 were much better than Finland 09 imo. Apparently the jury and the televoters didn't agree with me.

Marko

Yes, you are a very nice guy ... but I have to contradict once more. I preferred 'Probka' in Russian because it sounded more aggressive. As for Kristina and Anija ... I would have strongly disliked this song in any language ... even in Portuguese, French, Icelandic, or Polish, which are my favourite languages phonetically.

Same for me togravus. I liked Probka, but there were just other better songs I'd rather vote for.
