@ Laila ♥ YEUROVIZJON!

So basically what you're saying is that you don't like modern music? ;)

Well... I think the whole problem with ESC for a long time was the fact that it was too old-fashion, so i'm not sure if that's the right path to go.

Atleast we can both agree that there should be a little bit of everything on the contest (as long as it's good in its genre and not joke acts)?

I still believe that it would be quite impossible to include certain type of music/shows, if you take away the possibility for playback background music... but since you don't even want that type of music in the contest I can see that it's not a problem for you :)

@New in time
Well, I disagree. When Fairytale was performed live with an orchestra at the Nobel concert, it was way better than playback in ESC.
I think "modern" songs transform badly live even today with playback so I don't see that as an excuse. Remember Finland last year? Even with pyros the performance was tame - and it wasn't because of lack of movement or vocals. Any dance bands like Cascada etc - that genre is always harder to transform to a live stage even with or without playback.
I disgree because I think it's these "modern" songs that are just shite and rely too much on computerstuff = not real music. :P
I'm young, but even I can see that music was better and more real before.

@ Laila ♥ YEUROVIZJON!

for some odd reason this answer was posted in the wrong section...

Personally I think that ESC was way more boring back then... if you want to have a grand show... in some cases it'll be hard to have live music... it really depends on the genre and what type of show though...

Compromise could be that it could be up to the act/country to chose whether they want playback music or not... but then some would find it unfair and blah blah

I thin in the end of the day it's the best option as we have now... ESC couldn't have these type of modern songs if all the background music was live so we would be stuck with only odlfashion type of songs or rock songs...

Some production and sound is not as easy to make live but works with computer technics... so these songs would have a disadvantage if the music was suppose to live...

I think the fact that the music is playback has made it possible for ESC to actually have real modern music... back then it was seen as a contest that was ALWAYS behind in time but now it's catching up... I don't know if I want the times back when it was 10 years behind...

it looks like their 2007 will repeat itself...they will pick a good song, she will be great onstage, pass on to the final and then end up somewhere around 12th-15th.

@New in Town
But it can still be a big production with live music AND fun. It wouldn't be a rock show, that's not what I would want either. They could have an orchestra or "houseband" with what was needed. I want to see all sorts of music in Eurovision, but I just want it to be live and more authentic. It is silly to look at Alexander Rybak playing violin knowing that it's not really him, lol.

I don't think it was less fun to watch the old finals from 50s-90s at all. What I have noticed however, is that whatever the genre and whatever instruments or orchestration - everyone was SO MUCH BETTER LIVE back then! It was only in the mid-90s they started sucking on a more regular basis. I wonder if people are so used to bad singers today that they just don't mind it or care about it anymore.

@ Laila ♥ YEUROVIZJON!

It depends on taste... even when it was live the actual performers didn't play instruments (I think?)

But I'd rather this to still be a fun show rather just another rock-show... nothing against rock but all festivals and stuff are like that... ESC is unique with ethnic music, different genres and big production and I hope it'll continue that way

@New in Town
It did USE to be a live music contest and that's what I would like again so that it is great for bands too. It is a fake contest if not and no wonder it has a bad reputation and no one takes it seriously if it's too much focus on show, pop and looks, lol.

Ok that green face wasn't meant to be there. I meant to say "song ( s )" as in song or songs.

This girl's got a wonderful voice. I'm looking forward to hearing her song (S). Good luck Georgia and welcome back!! :D

@Union Jack
Lebanon was different. Their withdrawal was because the law would not allow them to broadcast the entire contest as long as Israel was participating. Georgia sent a song in and it got rejected, and they technically withdrew on those grounds. There is nothing wrong with withdrawing from the contest without having sent a song if you have no problem broadcasting a particular country's entry, it's merely because of tensions between them and Russia.

@ Laila ♥ YEUROVIZJON!

Well I kind of agree that there should be a mix of stuff. Personally though I don't know if ESC is the best platform so to speak for bands in general... ESC is alot about entertainment and show and since all instruments are playback, it doesn't really makes that much sense with bands...

but ideally there should be a little of all offcourse... as long as it's good! :)

Aha I get what you mean about females... let's see.. I think it will be 50/50... with slightly more males this year..

Yeah I hope for some ethnic sounds from Georgia... but let's see... as long as it's not some bland generic boring ballad i'm happy...

Is it just me or are ballads way more difficult to make good? They really have to have something special to stand out I think...

I'd rather take some cool special song with some singer that is maybe not the best live singer over some typical boring ballad with a good singer... but atleast with ethnic elements it'll have something genuine and unique in it...

:)

@New in Town
I agree, ethnic elements would make a ballad way more interesting. At least she can sing so if the song is good it really helps, lol. :P

I didn't say there IS too many females, just that there will probably be a lot more chosen so it is possible to have a majority of women AGAIN. Just saying, because some have complained on the lack of women and there never is, lol.
Personally, I like bands better because they can be of any genre, look/be more authentic, usually more talented because they compose and write their own stuff while solo singers just usually stick to pop, pop/rock, ballads... Ideal for me would be some of everything (that I like :P ) every year instead of 20 pop songs, 10 ballads and a few obscurities if you know what I mean.

@ Marko Makka Pakka :D

Thank you Marko! :)

@ Laila ♥ YEUROVIZJON!

Yeah she's kind of boring, or atleast these songs are... I fear they will chose a safe boring bland ballad in English for her... I hope they will surprise me though... I'm ok with it being a ballad but it has to be something special though... hopefully something with ethnich elements in Georgian!!

I disagree with their being too many females though... it looks like there will be a majority of males this year...

and about bands.. Eurovision is not Woodstock rock festival lol... I would be bored with those type of things mostly...

For me more ethno please! I'm not looking at Eurovision to hear some country send a song I could here on the radio everyday here... I watch it to find something unique from countries...

Anyway welcome back Georgia and PLEASE do not send a safe boring westernized Ballad... something more unique thank u very much! :)
