Song selection by late February

Georgian broadcaster call for songs

Following the appointment of Sopho Nizharadze as Georgia's representative at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, the national broadcaster GPB has launched a call for songs. The deadline has been set on February 3rd. A total of 5 entries will be selected to take part in a televised selection, to be held in late February.

Songwriters are called to send in their songs to the national broadcaster of Georgia until the 3rd of February. The selection of the song will feature 5 internally selected entries. The winning song will be decided by a combination of jury vote and public vote. The exact date for the final has not been announced yet, although it will take place by late February.

Georgia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007, when Sopho Khalvashi sung Visionary dream in Helsinki, achieving 12th place. The year after, Diana Gurtskaya represented the country in Belgrade with the song Peace will come, which ended up 11th. Georgia missed the 2009 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest owing to political reasons.

I'm sorry but I cannot but agree with T C, I didn't really like any of the Georgian songs.
Good luck!

Visionary Dream was really good I think, one of the best entries of 2007!

I didn't like Georgia's 2008 entry though... the 2009 (banned) one was average...

This new Sopho seems to be a good singer but her own material so far is pretty bad...

PLZ PLZ a ethno ballad or something modern... not those banal generic old-fashion ballad thanks!

@ Kenan
But I don't like those voting reasons! They are not fair! ;) :)

Visionary Dream was a strong song. It was unique and deserved a better place in Eurovision. But 'Peace Will come' was boring. The outfit change half way I think attracted the voters and maybe the fact the woman was blind also would have given her votes.

I hope for a fresh new sounding song, as 'We Don't wanna Putin' was awful and would have never qualified anyway. Also probably would have got Double the BOOO's that 'Silvia Night' and 'Dustin The Turkey' got put together.

@Marko

Georgia received points from many Eastern-European countries, because it has strong relations with them, especially with the Baltics!

Ok, not diaspora maybe, EX USSR and neighbour voting!! Do you know that it only recieved votes from Eastern Europe!! That's even too much for me! :O :D

i loved Visionary Dream, 2008 was average, 2009 was awful.
she has a nice voice and can sing in English without sounding cringey so maybe a Leona-esque r&b ballad would be good.

I wonder if it's open to foreign composers...

Visionary Dream was radically different from any other entry in 2007, which is why i liked it so much, a bit like Sanomi in 2003. But since then i haven't really liked the songs that Georgia have sent, or not sent. Having said that, this year's entrant looks promising. Best of luck Georgia for 2010 :)

Diaspora? :OBut Georgia hasn't got a strong diaspora!

Although having said that, the backing dancers/singers in in 2008 were pretty awesome (all those dramatic poses were too funny :P) and their disqualified 09 entry had a likeability to it :P

I haven't really liked any of the Georgian songs so far, I found 07 a bit weird and 08 was just messy ... but ye never know it could change this year!

Good luck Georgia :)

ethno ballad please.

She seems to be able to sing well in english, but it'd be much more interesting in georgian

Yeah, I know a lot of people liked it. It was too Björk-ish for me which is just not my taste, that's all. Corinna May was also blind, but she didn't get many sympathy votes in 2002, lol.

@Laila
I agree with Mira there. The Gerogian entry in 2007 was great. Reminds me of Bjork. Georgia's entry in 2008 was also great.

@ Laila
In 2007 I think it was first Georgian entry and it was quite different, somebody hated it somebody loved it!! I (L) it! But in 2008 It was coz of diaspora voting and you know coz she is blind! :(

LOL! Marko :P

I still don't understand how Georgia could manage a 12th and 11th place with those horrible songs. I hope this year I will like their entry. :) I would like something with ethnic influences too, but whatever it is, I just hope I like it. :P

Mira Craig FTW [60087]

I hope at least one of those songs will be ethno ballad, or smth with ethno ellemts, coz from Georgia we haven't seen and heard ethno!! I know that they have AWESOME folklore! :)
Sopho was my favourite in 2007!! :) (L)
