Name announced by late February

Belarus to select Eurovision entrant internally

The Belarussian entrant to the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 will be selected internally by the national broadcaster and EBU member BTRC. It is expected that the name of the nominee will be made public by late February or early March.

In a press conference held today in Minsk, Belarussian Head of Delegation, Alexander Martynenko, has announced that the choice of the artist to represent the country in Oslo will be made by an internal jury or music proffesionals. The final decision is expected to take place by late February or early March.

Controversy arose some months ago when the national television and only EBU member in the country BTRC handed over the rights to carry out the selection for Eurovision 2010 to ONT. Initially, the project Musical Court was intended to choose the Belarussian representative for Oslo, but the system changed when the station saw that their EBU membership application was very likely to be rejected.

Well the Belarus contests were always fixed anyway...an "Expert Jury" always made the "right" decision as they were no doubt told to do. So there was no real contest. So if Belarus TV decide internally it is probably for the better and it saves money!!

In spite of rather bad results, I pretty liked most of the Belarussian entries up to now. In my opinion, Belarus is one of the most underrated countries at ESC.

Or can they even chose an entry from "Musical Court" now!?

If they would (and can/want to), I hope they'll chose "Veryu Ya" !!!

I hope they will chose Byanka finally! Folk-R&B-Pop singer...

She's Belorussian and has a career in Russia aswell, probably one of their most famous names in contemporary music.

To me "Eyes that never lie" is the best Belarussian entry so far :D Best of luck in 2010 !

They could/should have won with "Work your magic". It was my equal favourite with Natalia Barbu for Moldova that year. This year they deserved to qualify.

Well I think Belarus were kinda robbed last year, the song was fantastic, and even if the weird sheet person on stage did it no favours, it still deserved more. After the rehearsals I was convinced it would qualify so I was a tad gutted when it didn't.

I dunno whether an internal selection is a good idea with Belarus or not, I suppose we just have to wait to hear the song ... but i'm really worried they're gonna chose Gunesh :P

The only Belarussian entry i've ever liked was 'Work Your Magic' in 2007, which was one of favourites that year. Hopefully Belarus will send something like that in 2010.

I'm glad they'll do it internally, the songs weren't that great, and wouldn't get them to ESC. I hope we get a new and interesting name from Belarus, and something different from this pop or pop/rock they send... I haven't really liked a Belarussian entry yet, so I hope this decade will be different for them :D

Gosh, Musical Court was pretty much a waste of time. They had some great songs like 'Veryu Ya' and 'your are the plane'. We'll wait and see!

Apart from 2006, I LOOOOOVE all their entries!!! They were ROBBED this year!!! How 'Eyes that never lie' didn't make it is still a mystery to me.

Belarus has sent a great entry (work your magic) and some nice ones like yes that never lie and hasta la vista. Though the ladies did not really deliver on the stage, the boys were all good singers. If the internal selection delivers another good hit Koldun style, it can finally meke it to the finals again...nut nothing will please the nagging ones ones who keep mourning the defeat of so called sophisticated entries. Yawn. Oh! The joy of being negative!

It's too bad Veryu ya won't represent them...

I hope they will choose someone great then with either a GOOD English accent or sing in Belarusian. Maybe they could send Dmitry Koldun?

I certainly hope for a great song from Belarus. All their entries have been utter waste until now (perhaps excepting 2004 but I didn't like that one either). Good luck!

Think it's gonna be hard to beat 2009's song for me. "Eyes That Never Lie" was one of my favourite songs from 2009, if not at number 1 for me. Lets hope they choosea great song for Oslo :D
