Exclusive interview

Coral: "I was waiting for a song that could touch the heart"

Coral Segovia is already a familiar name to eurofans from both Spain and abroad as she already tried to represent her country back in 2008 with the song Todo está en tu mente. This year she is back with a "power ballad" entitled En una vida, a song that means "everything" to her because it can "touch the heart of those who have not forgotten a precious love". esctoday.com had the chance to talk to her and find out more about her feelings towards the 2010 Eurovision season.

What encouraged you to apply for the 2010 Spanish Eurovision selection?

I was waiting for a song that could make me feel and express everything I have been through in my life, and most importantly I was waiting for a song that could touch the heart of those who have not forgotten a precious love.

How was the evolution from Todo está en tu mente to En una vida?

Todo está en tu mente was an important song for me too, but in a different way. It was a pop-dance song that people could dance to. En una vida means everything to me because it comes from the heart and I am very happy to see it has meant a lot for some people too.

How would you describe your candidate song for 2010?

It is a power ballad, but if you listen to it carefully you will realize it is very fragile too.

Do you have any musical patterns you get inspiration from?

I admire a lot of artists but inspiration should come from within. I can tell you artists that I love like Anna Vissi, Josh Groban, Barbra Streisand, Zeljko Joksimovic, Dulce Pontes, Patricia Kaas, Elton John, Leona Lewis, Il Divo... I don’t know. There are so many great artists in the world...

Do you have any clues as to your performance at the Spanish national final?

My production team and myself are not at that stage yet. There is still the Internet selection to get through. It is better to wait for it to finish and make sure that we have secured a place in the final. One step at a time.

So far, most of the national representatives chosen across Europe are male artists. Do you think that female soloists will make the difference this year?

I think that it is not a question of genres, but songs and artists.

Finally, we would like you to send a message to the readers of esctoday.com.

I would like to thank everyone who is supporting me and I would like to tell them how happy I am to read the comments they leave on my profesional Facebook! Thank you all so much!

esctoday.com would like to warmly thank Coral Segovia for giving us this interview. Good luck!

I am sure that Coral will be in Oslo for Spain
"En una vida" is the best spanish song in years in ESC
I hope Spain will be in Top-5 in Norway
Go Coral!!!!

Which ones then, drusus? Anyway none of the ballads I recently heard at ESC last years.

I am not touched - not impressed by that song at all. A weak composition, there are many similar songs with a bigger " wow " factor and more, pure and honest, imotions. This one sounds calculated - like a MF entry!

I just love Coral and her songs! to bad you have to travel to Spain to buy her cd's! Does anyone know where I can buy her cd's online? Go Coral ... you will be top 5 for sure!

I like the songs in 11th and 12th place...if only they got rid of the joke entries then there would be room for both and even a third song...

I doubt the network will disqualify anyone, but I really hope they discount lots of votes from the joke songs. Guacala!

Epic fail Spain and anyone voting randomly on there...............

Coral should have been named as the representative without all this rubbish, shame on you TVE.

Hahahaaa! it's another joke by TVE again, right? maybe it's just a nightmare and if I pinch myself hard enough I'll wake up and Alejandro Sanz or Monica Naranjo will be singing for Spain with a fabulous new song! oops, back to reality..better to get pissed tonight and try and forget it all for a night or two!...gracias TVE, como siempre pensando en lo mejor que España puede ofrecer...

THIS is an AMAZING song! wow, it really sounds like an eurovision winner! I hope she wins, so we can go to Oslo and impress Europe with her voice. Good Luck!

That top 10 is so wrong now...

This selection is a mess and RTVE are responsible for the mess.

Now Coral is down to #2, in any other selection she would easily be #1, but in Spain the ESC-haters control everything.

And soon a freak will take over her 2nd position and she'll be #3. And the #1 song should already been disqualified since it breaks the October rule. It was presented already in 2008, still RTVE let it compete.

A complete MESS! Shame on you RTVE!

Indeed, Togravus, while there's life there's hope. :D

AINHOA TO OSLO!!!!!!

Shevek

I was very angry indeed, but now that I have somewhat calmed down, I have voted for Ainhoa of course. Dum spiro spero ...

my favourites still are Bizarre and Virginia, but they have already lost the chance to make it in the top10... so, out of the top12, I like Coral, Ainhoa and Venus (even if it's a copy) and although I did not want to vote at first, I will vote for Ainhoa... :)

Shevek Urras [60988]
Fri 29 Jan 2010 13:21:31

Well Marko, if RTVE want to go all the (bad) way, Popstar Queen, El something Rojo or whoever are the same. Que verguenza, España - a votar!

Shevek
Yes!! I'm tired of voting too, but what else can we do to help....? nothing...

And If John Cobra or this old man win NF, I wanna Karmele Marchante back!! lol :D :D

That's the right attitude, Marko. I've just voted 5 times for Anabel. This system is simply ludicrous and RTVE shold be ashamed. I am sorry but I am fed up. I am still voting, though, out of respect for the Spanish eurofans. Please Togravus (and everybody else), keep on voting.

I voted for Coral Segovia X2, Samuel y Patricia, Venus, Anabel Conde!! I hope one of them will represent Spain!! But Coral Segovia is the best.. ;)
