My best bets are either Iiris or Groundhog Day.
You know, I actually love Astronaut now. I agree that you love it or hate it, but I've gotten used to her voice a bit. The music and lyrics are beautiful and I agree the singer's voice could benefit from being a little more normal, if for the sake of nothing but the song itself... but with lots of stage graphics of planets and swishy ribbons of light with a good live vocal, it could be brilliant in Oslo. I just think it's a lovely song, about something other than love for a change!
My top 3 for Estonia:
Tiiu Kiik
Iiris Vesik
Violina feat. Rolf Junior
Although looking at the attention it seems to be getting on the Eesti Laul website, it looks like Rapunzel will be going to Oslo. Let's see.
I dunno what people see in Siren. It sounds like a bad Depeche Mode song.
The best preselection by far
Good luck, Estonia
The Estonian national final is my favourite till now - so many great songs... Apart from Iiris Vesik, the rest is not even so sure for me and changes a lot...
1. Iiris Vesik - Astronaut
2. Malcolm Lincoln - Siren
3. 3 Pead - Poolel Teel
4. Disco4000 - Ei Usu
5. Lenna Kuurmaa - Rapunzel
6. Mimicry - New
7. Rolf Junior ft. Violina - Maagiline Päev
8. Marten Kuningas - Oota Mind Veel
9. Tiiu Kiik - The One And Only - Love
10. Groundhog Day - Teist Seest Koigile
YES! Estonia has one of the best 2010 NFs
Go Estonia, Go!
OMG I'm starting to like Iiris more than Violina feat. Rolf Junior
, but still I wanna them for Estonia coz thay can have better results and more suitable for ESC...
Yay !! Rolf Junior to ESC - hope they have a good stage show too as the video from the shopping centre makes them look a bit charismatically challenged, but I know from seeing live concerts with them in they usually have a better stage presence than this. I'm glad he's singing in Estonian as he sounds much better in it and he has difficulty with his English pronunciation. The best sounding one for ESC !!
I wouldn't be ashamed to hear any of this year's songs in ESC - I'd have liked Iiris better had she not be inhaling helium before her performance. Otherwise a good song too.
I like GROUNDHOG DAY "Teiste seest kõigile" , galantis . athens
I love Iiris and "astronaut"!It is my favourite(it puts you into a trance,it's haunting).
I also like Violina feat.Rolf jounior(the most mainstream and easy to listen song of all).
Tiiu Kiik with "the one and only" is nice too but third in my order of preferences.
Mimicry and "Siren" are interesting songs too but i wouldn't like to see them winning the ticket for Oslo...
Please not Lenna!!!One of the worse in the final for me!
All in all, congratulations for the most alternative national final(if we don't have another surprise)...One could say that it lacks diversity but it's ok...
i am sure enough to make a bet , that its going to be Lenna with Rapunzel
Violina should definately win!!
i lilke too:
SIREN
POOLEL TEEL (funny, laughed my ass off)
3PEAD
Astronaut is terrible sh*t
GROUNDHOG DAY "Teiste seest kõigile" IS BEST
I like that
Astronaut is a great song..the most special one of the bunch
It's nice to read , tham some people like Eesti laul and it's idea.
Right now i cant say wich song is my favorite.
I like the lyrics of Lenna's song cause they seem a bit ironic . I do like Tiiu kiik - but not for esc. Seems that the most suitable song for esc is " Maagiline päev "
Indeed, Marko. Estonia has one of the best 2010 NFs.
1. Violina & Rolf Junior
2. Marten Kuningas & Mahavok
3. Lenna Kuurmaa
Shevek, we have almost the same favourites!! I wanna:
1. Violina feat. Rolf Junior
2. Iiris Vesik
3. Tiiu Kiik
she probably won't be, obviously.
01. VIOLINA feat. ROLF JUNIOR: MAAGILINE PÄEV
02. MALCOLM LINCOLN: SIREN
The others don´t stand a chance.
I was finally able to listen to the 10 songs from Estonia and I was very pleasantly surprised. This NF is light years away from the regular ESC material. Congrats, Estonia! I praise your courage. Let's go down to business, here are my favs:
'The one and only - Love' (simply wonderful and also the best one imo); 'Siren'; 'Teiste seest kõigile' and 'Maagiline päev'. Of course, this might change after the live performances, but Tiiu Kiik has already made her mark. Let's hope she sounds as good live. I don't really care if she isn't chosen, she probably won't.
Best Song by far is Malcolm Lincoln -Siren. It's still leading some polls here.
Send "Astronaut" it is the nicest song this year
It is awesome
It really grows on me and will be different from all other bland entries this year in the international final
Not liking Estonia this year tbh. One thing, PLEEEEASE don't send 'Astronaut' So annoying
APPEALING TO AUDIENCES IN A MULTI-MILLION SHOW
Talking about what we eurofans (in general, not just the nostalgic hardcore ones) expect, I guess some singing show is always welcome. In my opinion, after a few years' debatable singing ability (circa 2000) good singers reappeared. By good singers I don't mean gifted songbirds who would perform vocal acrobatics, for that is not necessarily the point, but at least someone who might impress us positively -whatever their style.
Just to remind you of the pitfalls of not choosing well, let us go back to 2006's Macedonian "Ninanajna" and the poor girl who sang an entire ad-lib out of tune. If that sounds too subtle for the untrained ear, I suppose you might have heard last year's Christina Metaxa's "Firefly" (she could definitely not sing that song well). Finally, for something a little more bizarre, let us go back to 2005's semi-final and Angelica Agurbash's "Love Me Tonight": the song may have been catchy, however stereotyped, even an instant hit for those hardcore fans (with its not-too-subtle 'inspirations' on Cher's classics and Madonna's staging...) but the former double beauty queen did not sound at all like a professional singer -no matter how many albums she may have recorded.
Consequently, a hopeful like (sorry but I must name names) "Poolel teel" by 3 Pead does not only sound far away from the usual candidate -which is the lesser disadvantage- but it could hardly appeal to a 100,000,000+ audience hoping for a memorable song. It is way too flat in tonality, and the vocals float (and drown) within a range simpler than most nursery rhymes.
@ New in Town,
"I give big credit for Estonia for just doing their own thing. (...) Plus for encouraging use of native language aswell."
AMEN
