Semi final allocation draw at 14:00 CET today

Today, it will be decided, which country will compete in which one of the two semi finals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. The event will be streamed live on eurovision.tv.
  • You can follow the semi final allocation draw here (requires Octoshape plugin).

Based on the countries' voting patterns, evaluted by the contest's voting partner Digame, the 34 countries competing in the two semi finals will be drawn from five pots, in order to decrease the influence of neighbour and diaspora voting.

  • Pot 1: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland
  • Pot 2: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden
  • Pot 3: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Israel, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine
  • Pot 4: Armenia, Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, the Netherlands, Turkey
  • Pot 5: Bulgaria, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia

The big four countries France, United Kingdom, Spain and Germany as well as host country Norway are directly qualified for the final. It will also be decided tonight, in which semi final those five countries are going to vote.

probably for Slovakia it is not so important which countries will be in our run - Austria, Czech rep. a nd Hungary are not in the contest this year. So we can only hope for support from Ukraine and Poland (if some come), and I remember that Malta and Croatia voted for our songs (as we for theirs). But the quality of the song should be the most important, shouldn´t it? I would vote for the best song and for me is not important what country it is.

For Sweden it would be good with all Nordic countries, Estonia, Poland, Albania & Malta lol

Shouldn't Azerbaijan and Turkey be in a pot together? They are the new "Greece & Cyprus"

@ Johnny Europa in love with Didrik

I actually think the pot system works to some extent and I guess we all agree that something needed to be done..

it simple avoid some "pots" to have 6 countries in one semi and only 1 in the other one (seems obvious)

it is the third year of the semi allocation draw and I still don't get it. this way, they just divide the bloc voting by half. e.g. an ex-USSR country will be voted by 3 and not 6 fellow ex-USSR countries, but if the participants are already divided by half in the semis, that doesn't really make a difference in the points. i am not sure what could be a more fair way to do this, but I honestly believe that even a draw without pots would be more suitable. 34 countries randomly allocated in two semi-finals.

Mina

I know it isn't easy, but you can start with countries that vote the most heavily for each other, many of those aren't even in the same pots. In nay case I'm sure a computer could work it out and then we could just have a draw for the running order.

Yeah tbh I think the pots system is as close as we're going to get to fairness. You could try and work out exactly who votes for who exactly and devise some system as who goes into which semi but then you'd have the same countries in the semis each year and other patterns would start to emerge.

im really excited to see which countries will be in the same semi for a THIRD time in a row :D

@ Mina X

Agree. I think the pot system is good.

But I think that also the big4 should be in pots. For instance Germany should not vote in the same semi as Turkey for logical reasons...

Daniel,
that's not so easy. There are only 2 semis but many voting patterns.

This whole pots idea is stupid, just assign countries to one semi or the other based on voting patterns.
