Week 13 review

National final season 2010: What happened last week?

Counting from the first Maltese semi final on 9th December, the 13th week of the national final season for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 has passed. 17 more live shows were held in 13 different countries including nine national finals and two song presentations.

Azerbaijan

The national final that had the biggest surprise in store was probably the Azerbaijani one, which was held on Tuesday: At the end of the show, it was revealed that the song to be performed in Oslo would not be announced before 19th March. A total of three acts had taken part in the national final performing a total of four different songs. The jury decided to send Safura to the Eurovision Song Contest and her entry will be chosen out of the three that she performed in the national final: Drip drop, Soulless and Under my skin. Meanwhile, she performed Drip drop during the Ukrainian national final making it a likely choice.

The German performer selection Unser Star für Oslo continued on Tuesday with the third elimination round being held. Six acts competed and at the end of the voting it was decided that Leon Taylor was eliminated from the competition. The remaining five acts competed in the quarter final on Friday and this time, Sharyhan Osman had to leave the contest. The remaining four acts to compete in the semi final are Jennifer Braun, Lena Meyer-Landrut, Kerstin Freking and Christian Durstewitz.

Portugal's Festival da canção was held over three days. The two semi finals were held on Tuesday and Thursday with twelve contestants taking part in each heat. A total of twelve songs qualified for the national final on Saturday. At the end of the voting, it was decided that Filipa Azevedo will go to Oslo with the song Há dias assim, written by Agusto Madereira. She received twelve points from the jury but only seven points in the televoting while Catarina Pareira, favourite of the televoters, received only six points from the jury. The result was not popular in the hall and led to loud booing. Felipa Azevedo had previously won the online quarter final.

However, this time the individual polls for each country will always be held right after the national final, when the entries are still fresh. In the greek national final the last week momentum turns to the song game of life S.Baltzi and second skin they lead in most polls. Alkaios after 20 years in show biz has the support of famous radio producers natalia germanou for example and many others but i hope the juries wont support him.

Zanic@

I was talking in a general way, I was not specifying.

I can't agree with you about 2008 and 2009. I think that both songs are the best sent by Portugal in the last 10 years, together with the awesome Rita Guerra in 2003 who was very very very underrated!

I'm glad you like the song, too bad I can not like it like I liked Vanessa and Catarina's songs.

Balkansko Momče [53203]
Tue 9 Mar 2010 23:33:58

I don't know what you see in turkish song...they cant sing :/...

Slovakia or Croatia....the best so far...and I dont think anyone will be better

btw...I don't know why some people judge songs from Serbia..Azerbaijan..or BH..if they havent heard them yet....that's really low.

I think the portuguese entry is being underrated in purpose by many of you because of the scandal it happened in the Portuguese National Final.

Lies// only the typical Eurofan who wants the overrated favourites to win would hate the Portugeese song. I'll admit I wanted Catarina's song to win or Vanessa. But Filipa was my 3rd favourite and She can pull off better live vocals than Catarina, (even though Vanessa is probably one of the best singers ever and was robbed in the voting)
...

Semi-Final 1

1) Slovakia- Kristina "Horehronie" (L)
2) Albania- Juliana Pasha "It's all about you" (Orchestra Version) (L)
3) Portugal- Filipa Azevedo "Ha dias assim" (L)

Does that look like i'm underrating Portugal?
No also Karen likes Portugal too and both of us agree that Portugal, Ireland and Croatia are the 3 best ballads of 2010.

Sooo maybe your ott with the EVERYONE hating Portugal's entry, I did hate Portugal 09 (annoying) Portugal 08 (Boring) and Portugal 06 (DREADFULL) but I can say with a smile Portugal's 2010 entry I realy enjoy and atm it has a 3rd place for my Semi-Final 1 rating and that is pretty darn good :)

Christophe Lemonnier@

I don't want to recall what happened in Festival da Canção 2010. It was not the people who voted for this song to Oslo.

But since we can not do anything more about it, there is nothing to do than supporting the song, even if it is not our favourite.

And don't you think you're being a little bit exaggerated when you said that this is the worst song from Portugal for the last 10 years? Are you saying that Nonstop were better than Filipa? I don't think so...

Christophe Lemonnier [44718]
Tue 9 Mar 2010 23:13:11

Peter, I am really sorry my friend that it sounds a bit harsh but maybe, really maybe the song that you guys voted for Oslo, we just do not like. I think it's really dreadful. And really my friend, I would like to see Portugal win but not with this tacky bad ballad. I have been voting for the last 2 years for Portugal because you had a good song, this year... sorry

He is not begging at all!
And I'm happy he posted English translation coz I wanted to find that but couldn't like for other songs, I'm sure if Catarina Pereira won with her bad song I could find translation immediately and that's not fair! :(
I will vote for Portugal even If i will waist money! :D
Goooo Filipa! (L)

Christophe Lemonnier [44718]
Tue 9 Mar 2010 22:54:45

@Peter Sedan,

can it be that lots of people just do not like the winning song in Portugal. me personally think it's a horrible boring song and one of the weakest ballads this year. I don't think Portugal will in the final this year. One of Portugals weakest songs of the last 10 years... will that do as explanation ? So nothing to do with what happened during your final in Portugal. Song is just bad. Sorry. So no need to start begging....

Marko Astronaut [60087]

I will vote for Portugal again this year! Filipa is one of my favorites!! :) :)

People, let me get one thing straight here.

I think the portuguese entry is being underrated in purpose by many of you because of the scandal it happened in the Portuguese National Final.

People, I did like Catarina's song better too, but there is no obviuos explanation why "Há Dias Assim" is being treated like that by many of you. Even that "Canta Por Mim" was way better for an Eurovision stage (this year even more because of so many ballads), "Há Dias Assim" is an amazing ballad, and one of the best ballads from this year, only Norway and Georgia (congrats Hanne Sørvaag) have better ballads. I am not saying this because I'm portuguese, I just have reasons to dislike "Há Dias Assim" because it took the victory of my favourite song, but I can't stand this spirit of "let's burn Portugal to the last place" just because of what happened in Festival da Canção, we have to count with what we have and I can't stand all this hate for Portugal after we've just give you reasons to like us and support us in Eurovision! Common we are 43 years competing without winning! I don't ask to make Portugal to be your TOP Favourite, I'm just asking for fairness.

Thank you and keep an open-mind!

I leave you here a translation I made of the lyrics to english! =)

Há Dias Assim

There are days like this
That leave us alone
The emptyness in the soul
The sorrow on the voice

We fatigue our hands
Of holding so tight
The words don't come out
It's because we remain unsaid

There exists a song
That I never sang
Verses to be rhymed
Poems that I've never done

Who put us like this?
Our life is torn
Who took you from me stole my soul
But of you knows nothing

There are days like this
They can not be hide
Fearness on the words
To Love or to suffer?

Occult senses
Pretending that there is not
There are days who are lost
Between here and there

There exists a song
That I never sang
Verses to be rhymed
Poems that I've never done

Who put us like this?
Our life is torn
Who took you from me stole my soul
But of you knows nothing

I know that one day
You'll realize
That life is only one
There's no turning back

Who put us like this?
Our life is torn
Who took you from me stole my soul
But of you knows nothing
