Tonight: National final in the United Kingdom

Tonight, the United Kingdom's national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 will be held. Six acts are going to compete in the national final hoping to be chosen to perform the song written by Pete Waterman and Mike Stock in Oslo.

The show

The show to be broadcast on BBC ONE will start at 20:30 local time (21:30 CET) and it will be hosted by Graham Norton. Six acts are going to compete and the winner will be chosen in two rounds. In the first round, all six acts will perform a cover version of a famous song and these six individual performances will be followed by a group performance. After the first round has finished, head judge Pete Waterman, who is supported by 2009 Eurovision Song Contest representative Jade Ewen and Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli, will choose three acts to compete in the second round. In the second round, these three acts will all perform their own version of the song written by Pete Waterman. Televoting will then decide who of them is going to represented the United Kingdom in Oslo with this song.

The interval acts will be performed by Sugababes, who will present their latest single Wear my kiss and Alexander Rybak, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 for Norway.

I think the no stream outside the UK rule is fair, as we pay a license fee [...] I have only really watched MGP this year, and I find that perfect.

So you think it's perfectly okay that you get to enjoy a show that the Norwegians pay for, but you don't think the Norwegians should get to watch the show you pay for? I don't understand the logic.

I think the no stream outside the UK rule is fair, as we pay a license fee, but then I don't see as much point in the live stream, as everyone in the UK could probably get better quality on an actual TV.

About other web streams - I have only really watched MGP this year, and I find that perfect. No problems at all if I watch it after it's finished, and it only stops to buffer about once if I watch it live.

@Marko
Yes, I checked. We have BBC food, entertainment, news and another one I forgot the name of, but not BBC one.

I'm watching MGP and MF every year on LS and both are perfect every single year!

Absolutely. If people believe the UK webcast is superior, they have obviously never tried watching outside the UK.

Anyway, I already know three members of this site who are guaranteed to hate the UK song tonight. And that is VERY GOOD NEWS for the rest of us! ;)

Really? I get perfect signals for every national final I watch, apart from Norway, every single year. Every year Norway's signal is horrible, its fuzzy, the picutre stops, its constantly buffering, its just very bad, and its on a site thats very hard to navigate.

Well Tohoshinki, the Norwegian stream is so bad every year, it's not worth a high quality broadcast that the BBC provides. There are plenty of countries who dont stream it. If your broadcaster decides to, thats their choice.

I think its right people in other countries can't watch the BBC. I pay a license fee, you DO NOT. Therefore, I get the service, you DO NOT.

I think all 6 acts look really good, and as long as they can sing well and the song is good UK could do very well this year as well!

I think Alexis, Esma and Uni5 are the three that will get to the seond round.

(I hate it when these so called fans pick their favourite ESC song that is last year's winner, UK's entry last year or UK's last winner - it show no interest in ESC what so ever!)

ESMA to WIN!

I dont want to sound all negative but having Pete Waterman, Jade Ewen and Bruno Tonioli as the judges doesnt sound very promising to me! In fact, out of the three I am most confident with Jade and shes only been around for less than a year now.

But anyway, there is only 2 1/2 hours left till it starts. I want to stay positive!

Can't wait to watch (L) RYBAK (L) :D :P

May the best act represent the UK!!!!!!!!!

Bruno Tonioli is in every programme these days!!! No wonder his head keeps expanding :P I love the way he talks though! the Italian accent is absolutely gorgeous ;) :P

@Tohoshinki
Yeah, I'm sure other countries have the same or a similar licensing policy to the BBC in the UK, I was just explaining the official reason as to why the broadcast is not available outside of this country.
I don't agree with it though, I think an exception could be made for this particular event.

I know for a fact that Belgian fans can watch it, as BBC is on the cable.... I really didn't know that all the others can't watch it... well we will keep you guys posted. But if you think about it, it's really stupid as these national finals will be followed by lots and lots of fans all over Europe and so lots of free publicity....

@ Telex Fan Club
We in Norway do also pay taxes for our tv license with NRK and we do even pay more this year due to hostship. But you can still watch our NFs every year regardless of location :)
