Germany sends Lena Meyer-Landrut to the Eurovision Song Contest
The national final
Both finalists perfrformed the same two songs as well as an individual entry. In the first round, the favourite song by each performer was chosen. It was decided that Jeniffer Braun would perform I care for you in the second round while the favourite of Lena Meyer-Landrut was Satellite. In the second round, it was ddecided that Lena will represent Germany in Oslo.
esctoday.com poll results
The esctoday.com poll voters did not agree with the choice. Among the six performances, Jennifer Braun's I care for you was the clear favourite getting 38.7% of the votes. Satellite by Lena Meyer-Landrut still finished third in the poll with 16.1%.
esctoday.com national final awards
The 2010 esctoday.com National Final Awards will be held between April and May, which means between the national final season and the Eurovision Song Contest. We will repeat the same format with two rounds for nominations which was used this year - you can read how it works here. However, this time the individual polls for each country will always be held right after the national final, when the entries are still fresh. You can vote for your favourite performance not to qualify in the German national final here and for your favourite song not to qualify here.
In 2009, Germany was represented by Alex Swings, Oscar Sings! with the song Miss kiss kiss bang. The duo finished 20th in the final with 35 points. As a big four country, Germany is directly qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 on 29th May.

I'm German and believe me I know every song Germany ever sent to ESC or the former Grand Prix. IMO there were worse songs than "Satellite" and if you wanna know I will tell you some. After all it's a matter of personal taste and "Zeitgeist". And another point: This is the ESC and mostly Germany doesn't send the best national music to this event because of several reasons (for example famous singers don't want to take the risk of being "defeated" at this event).

this, by the way, is the official video...it wont be removed or anything...
just in case anyones interested in it...
vote for LENA,,,please we`re hated by anyone anyway, so why not giving us a little chance
@ Paul
You talk about the UK entry? Indeed!
@paul didden The worst? Man, you're such a drama queen. The No angels song or the song from last year were sooo horrible. I might not be the biggest Lena fan, I voted for Jennifer but at least Lena's song is young and quite catchy and not the same boring ballad which some countries love to produce.
@ Martin F: Such a big country with so much great music and this is all you can come up with. I really think the big 4 don't even make an effort anymore to send in a good song. This is, in my opinion, the worst German entry ever!!
@ paul didden
"Shame on you Germany"
Sounds pathetic, doesn't it.
People are different.
Tastes are different.
Take it easy and relax.
We´re not ashamed of Lena-Baby. We do love her - she´s great and will open your heart, too. ;-)
Enjoy the ESC and don´t blame Lena for the ESC-Rules - she hasn´t made them! Wrong address!
Beep!
Shame on you Germany ... Is this all you can come up with!! Bad song, bad singer ... but well who cares! you are in the final allready!!
well sounds good and happy song !
To those of you outside of Germany: interested in Lena singing a ballad? Here you go:

Skip the German intro, the song starts at 3:00.
Enjoy! :-)
Germany has a great entry this year... Just the best along with Sweden!!! I'd say that my Ipod is stucked on replay and I am singing it continiously...Well done...Not lot of good songs this year...
Love, oh love,I gotta tell you how I feel about you
'Cause I,oh,I can't go a minute without your love
Like a satellite,I'm in orbit all the way around you
And I would fall out into the night
Can't go a minute without your love
Greets and Congratulations from GREECE!!!
what a fresh and awssome song! A beacon of awesomeness in the otherwise wasteland of esc 2010!
Can a native speaker of English please clarify on her accent? Lena comes from a pretty well-to-do family with ambassadors and stuff, and I am sure she goes to a good school and knows exactly what she s doing with her English. As someone else (from the UK) said, it s sort of a the mockery of a Cockney accent: I find the accent grating at times, but I am still confident it s well done?
I LOVE it. It reminds me of France's 1994 entry... Also the accent is just divine and funny at the same time!
Gutes Glück, Deutschland!
Melisa
I am very happy to read that you love the song. Funny thing! Most of my favourite esctoday members seem to really like our song this year.
This is bloody great! And a fantastic Cockney accent!
This is a really nice song - bouncy and quirky. I hadn't realised that London's East End extended as far as Germany. She's a German cockney!
BIG 4 or BIG SHIT 4?
I like the song! It is decent, but I think in this case the artist is better than the song. She might not have the greatest voice or accent in the world, but she isn't a native speaker either and she definitely got stage presence and a personality. Maybe that could be an advantage because she will be remembered on that stage I think. Just like the Estonian guy she has some serious quirkiness going on too, lol.
Germany is my #13 and that earns them a spot in my "I love" section. This is actually a pretty good year. Especially since I will probably like Bosnia, France and Serbia too. It's just that it's either love or hate this year, not so much inbetween. Half is in my like or love sections while the other half is pretty crap, lol.
It was obvious it wasn't the song Lena wanted to win with, but in my opinion it was the best song which also suited her best...
I just didn't like that the show was a bit unfair. The songs obviously suited Lena better than Jennifer so she never really had a chance as a result of that. Had she performed something like she did in previous shows she might have had a better chance.
Oh well, I hope we hear more from them in the future.
@ togravus and New Sascha
Me too.
togravus
hey, good i catched u, i wanted to say congrats specially to u
this will get my votes
After a few painful years when I didn't like our songs at all "Satellite" is a modern good and catchy one. I prefered "Love Me" but this is pretty cool, too (especially the rhythm). Hopefully Lena gets a vocal training and there are some people who create a nice performance with her as the satellite. At least this year I'm happy about the song. Hopefully Lena can make a good performance with it.
The studio version is nice but I'd like an arrangement with more electronics instead of the acoustic guitar and the drums.
one of the best songs this year
I like this song but I don't think it's a masterpiece. It's just good.
New Sascha
I voted for 'Satellite' too!
for me just nice..
I think Lena is a good choice
but I would have like "Love me" as song for Oslo much more, it fitted better with Lena, but nevertheless I think it's a doog entry much better than the entrys of the last years of Germany
and I think in two months there can be a lot of done at this song
=)
