Wig Wam (2005) was... THE BEEEEEEEEST !!! :X
We agree to disagree, and that's cool.
Cooler than Vanilla Ice!
Actually I don't disagree with you, I'm just pointing out that none of us probably has all the information needed to make anything but a very subjective statement. I think it would sound weird to complain that there are "too many Balkan ballads" in a Serbian or Macedonian final, for example. Isn't that really how it should be? Who would make Balkan ballads if not the Balkans? Who's gonna make schlager if not Sweden? Each country must do its own thing. Just like Portugal. They rarely succeed internationally, but they always do their own thing. And I think that demands some respect!
This year Sweden chose to go with an American song instead of a Swedish one. Maybe that will give them a better result. My friends already say they like the song, so I think there's hope for Anna in Oslo. Good luck to her!
@ Alyson,
You're absolutely right about the "subtleties within schlager", and of course I was giving my opinion
Anyhow, and again, the show was great (too bad the webcast for every SVT show was crap, for the image quality was fannnntastic!).
We agree to disagree, and that's cool.
GOOD LUCK, ANNA!!!
The duel was a bit lame IMO. Loved Hanne Krogh but I don´t get why there were non-eurovision songs included. Maybe I´m being too smallminded...
It is often said that "all Asians look the same to me" or something like that. Usually said by people who don't have many Asian friends and who don't know much about Asian culture, ethnology and sociology. I expect the same to be true for music, that to a European ear "all Asian music sounds the same" and perhaps that to a Serbian, Turkish or Argentinian ear "all Swedish music sounds the same" too. But this is Sweden's culture, this is the kind of music which is popular in Sweden. In some Eskimo languages they have 16 different words for snow. In Sweden I'm sure they have 16 different kinds of schlager. It might sound "all the same" to us, but to Swedes all the songs probably have their distinct individual personality. So since this show is meant for Swedes only I think it is futile for us outsiders to criticise their lack of originality when in all likelihood it's us who don't understand the subtle diversities within a genre we don't fully appreciate.
Hi Rebecca!
i do agree that MF is the most viewed and maybe the most grand among all national finals. But let's not forget that it all goes according to a country's culture and budget!
Seriously, although I actually don't like most of the songs that keep "reappearing" in the MF (that is, there are basically three or four songs, in two styles, made over and over every new year, no offence meant) it is undeniable that it gets loads of attention. This year I tried to watch three of the four semis and the final thinking perhaps I was wrong and I could enjoy it as much as millions of Swedes and Europeans -too bad the wabcast was so painfully, untenably poor- but no. I just confirmed my fears as most acts there live onstage belonged in one big bubble. Of course I'm not saying that it's wrong or anything, just maybe it gets boring, you know... having so many good singers (for they are good, yes sir) and the technical resources and know-how when it comes to recording and mixing music (it shows, too), and LOTS OF MONEY to invest... well it all more or less sounded the same. A bunch of girls in every shade of the blodissime palette, even made up and looking and sounding the very same way as last year's girls and the ones the year before. I could go on, but I really don't want to sound like dissing the MF.
The only songs that didn't sound like family to the other 8 were Anna's and Salem's. Of course you may say Anna's also sounds like a hundred others, especially American ballad by more-or-less independant girls such as Jewel; but it definitely didn't smell like Pernilla's and Charlotte's and what Malenna's would have been if she wasn't an opera singer with an attitude (anyway they schlagered her up to the back teeth). And of course you and everyone may say that Salem's song was not "a song" but the product of a single talented complete artist; and I would surely agree.
So when it comes to judging all national finals as if they all should or even could be like MF, we should be careful: there are dozens of countries, each one with its culture and style and likes and budget; and there would be no point in having everyone imitate Sweden, right?
So, congratulations again on your fantastic national song festival, may business live forever from January to March, and then may we all enjoy the variety and colour of ESC every May.
Melodifestivalen gets alot of attention because it IS like Eurovision, but less songs and everyone's competing to get to represent Sweden in ESC. It is huge, it's alot more entertaining than the other countries national finals because we take it so seriously here. It's like the music version of the Olympics! No kidding! And I saw Greece, Russia, Estonia and Belgium's national finals... you can't compare anything to Sweden, that's for sure
(Not being patriotic, just honest!)
@mehmet
tşk to u too mate
@aaron
thanks mate
Sounds nice with some Norwegian influence during the interval-act ^^ Good luck tonight, Sweden! May the best number win...
@ ATA
A maximum of 6.
@ATA
6 including singer(like hadise)
can someone inform me, how many ppl r allowed to be on the esc stage including the singer?
I think this page are owned by the Swedes
but I'm not sure
all i care about hoping 2 watch the melodifestivalen
It's not like Norway is invading Sweden. The theme is Norway because Norway is hosting Eurovision. I think I remember it was Latvia before (presumably in 2003?) when the Latvian embassy objected to the misrepresentation of their country with Russian folk dancers etc. Anyway, I like Hanne, Bettan, Maria and Alexander; I can't really stand Glam and I think he has a very apt name; and I like Kikki and Lotta because they remind me of good old days
This is gonna be a real nice show! I hope the webcast is better than last year.
esctoday seems to treat Mf as it is eurovision. it gets alot more attention than any other national final , whats the reason for that ? i dont think interval acts desevre their own thread- that can be very well mentioned together with some other news. sure i will get answers like " but this is the biggest NF of them all " , its still unfair to the others.
Melodifestivalen is the best of all national finals why should we not care
lol. I think they get a bit carried away with Melodifestivalen on this site. No other national final is covered this thoroughly.
Umm do we care?
OK............................ .............................T _T
