New national final format?

NTU holds press conference at 16:00 CET

At 16:00 CET, the Ukrainian broadcaster NTU will hold a press conference in order to present the new management of the broadcasting company following the resignation of its previous chairman and the change of government in the country. It is also expected that new plans for a national final to select the country's representative at Eurovision 2010 will be explained, which could lead to a replacement of appointed entrant Vasyl Lazarovich.

Vasyl Lazarovich's Eurovision bid could be in serious danger should the plans of the new board of NTU to hold a new national final in the country despite the tight deadline to submit the materials to the EBU turn out successful.

This afternoon, at 16:00 CET (17:00 local time), a press conference at the NTU headquarters will be held. The new management of the broadcaster will be presented, as well as the rules for the preselection, which would only come into force if the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine appoint the board within the few coming days.

Should this turn out as wished by the new board of NTU, preselection would consist of three phases, the first taking place tomorrow (auditions), the second on Friday (semifinal) and the last one on Saturday,(final) when the Ukrainian representative at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest would be proclaimed, thus replacing Vasyl Lazarovich and his song I love you.

[UPD] Egor Benkendorf has been appointed as president of NTU.

Stay tuned for more information.

You, guys, come on!!! Yes, Ukraine has very little time to get ready!!! Yes, it's a lot to be done in just few days! But when a singer from nobody knows where openly and directly talks about how he "organized" his victory at the National Selection by means of personal connection, bribes, ect., it's really NOT cool at all!!! It would be a share if our show biz would sit quetly and watch this happening!!! I believe Ukraine made a right desicion! If you check out our media articles about Vasyl, you will be amazed. Almost nobody wrote a single good word about how he was selected!!! To be selected the way he was is the privilage of Ukr top stars!!! Rest have real contest. So why Vasyl should have been an exception?!?! Cheers to all!!!

This has nothing to do with the song, it has to do with politics. The new president of NTU wants to show he's a strong and efficient leader. Well I'm not impressed and there will be no votes from me.

People are such hypocrites in here.

Why should they be disqualified? Then Azerbaijan should be disqualified too for not clarifying their entry and already changing it twice, Belarus had one selection and then another with a new choice... then they should be disqualified aswell??

Even if the song isn't a favourite of mine, I think it's a terrible thing to do to an artist and a song. They have chosen this entry and should stand up for it. Are they so corrupt in Ukraine????
If this will pass through it should be up to ALL participating countries to have new preselectionsm if they want to. What a mess!!!

They are such morons... Even if I don't like the song chosen, a national final HAS been held, people have voted and a song HAS been chosen. It is disrespectful and rude to treat Vasyl this way. It was up to the broadcaster andthey chose Vasyl. Why can't they just DEAL WITH IT??? It's just one year and it's JUST a song contest, nothing too serious. People who don't like the song have to accept that it won in a normal NF fair and square. Simple as that.

I agree with Phantom Matt and Nigel McMacerson --- I'd feel bad for him too. Having another ad-hoc final just days before all the songs are due is seriously messed up!

That would not be fair to Vasyl, if he should not be send to Oslo. Despite the fact that his song is absolute crap, I don't wish this to a person. Maybe he can go with "Adrenalin" instead, is that an option Ukraine?

Thats kind of a relief haha :P

Although, even if I really dislike the Ukrainian song this year, I feel sorry for Vasyl, as he did technically win the right to go to Oslo so he should really be going .. still, it's just pop music I suppose.

i hope he sews NTU! why not leave the entry as it is? all because the old managers chose him? grow up! public broadcasting should be free from the government anyway

boooooooooh ukraine. vasyl was ready for oslo and you're playing games? irresponsible state.

Phantom Matt [60175]
Wed 17 Mar 2010 17:27:19

Although i believe this will be Ukraine's worst ever entry if they do send him to Oslo, i will feel really sorry for the guy if the broadcaster suddenly changes their mind just days before the EBU deadline. That's just not fair.

uhhh craziness in the ukraine. gee that really sucks for vasly. the song wasn't totally bad, im sure he would have peformed it great live. guess we will just have to wait and see what will happen.

nigel mc macerson [39892]
Wed 17 Mar 2010 17:11:34

as bad as the singer might be at the minute, is it really fair to go and change now? this new idea seems way too rushed and will probly only end up in a worse song than now?! this really makes no sence lol
