National Final Awards 2010

Melodi Grand Prix wins Best national final award

Over the last few weeks, the voting in the esctoday.com National Final Awards took place. More than twice as many people as last year took part in the voting and today it is time to reveal the results in the remaining three categories, the big ones. We continue with te final category, Best national final.

The esctoday.com National Final Award for Best national final goes to...

          ...Melodi Grand Prix (Norway)
                                                               organised by NRK

Melodi Grand Prix, also known as MGP, took place over five weeks. After three semi finals and a second chance round, the national final was held with eight acts competing. The winner was chosen by a mixture of jury voting and televoting.

This award is given out for the fifth time. On the previous four occasions, it always went to Swedish Melodifestivalen.

This concludes the announcement of the winners in the 2010 esctoday.com National Final Awards. Tomorrow, we will publish the full results in all categories as well as an updated hall of fame for all categories.

I think that if majority voted on the norwegian MGP it really deserved to win. I enjoyed the swedish MF much because of the four singing "gepid" girls Timoteij from Västergötland, which is the same area as the "geat" Beowulf came from. I really like the finnish song because it seems so genuinely folklore. =:-)

Maybe Melodifestivalen won in previous years because Princess Engla made numerous accounts. Just a thought.

Engla
I still think it's alot of panic votes for MGP. Are we sure that people didn't make multiple accounts to vote against MF??

yeah 10 is so much more than 8, lool! But that not explain why Sweden wins more of the other catergories. I mean if MGP really has the best songs then they should do much better than this. It really smell fishy in here!

Seriously, who would use energy on making a lot of new accounts just to vote for awards like this? Why can't you just accept that MGP was voted as the best this year. Do you expect MF to win every award there is and if you not win, someone is cheating? You say that MF have won so many awards this year and therefor should have won this too (??). Timotej won for best folk song, MGP didn't have any folk song (so we couldn't be nominated in that category). It’s all about the total impression. Even if you won a couple of categories doesn’t mean that people thought your NF was the best (regarding the quality of all songs in the NF inclusive the songs in semi and qualification rounds). One of the categories was ”best staging and presentation”, but this cathegory was ”best national final”.

Marcus Klier:
next year we may add another category called "Princess Engla's favourite national final" and MF will get all five nominations

Hahaha, thanks Marcus, that made my day :D :D

Thanks :) May I also add some information (just in case people wasn't aware of Didrik singing with Jose Carreras) ;):

Last night (3rd May) 4,000 people filled the Hamar Olympic Arena to hear one of the leading tenors - Jose Carreras performing together with the Mexican soprano Rebeca Olvera, and the Norwegian MGP winner Didrik Solli-Tangen (22).

Carreras, who previously has shared the stage with, among others, Luciano Pavarotti, wanted to have Didrik joining him on stage when he was performing in Hamar. And the boy himself describes the invitation he got about a month ago, like this: "almost like it had to be for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he got the phone from Manchester United”.

- ”This is what I've dreamt of all my life. Carreras is a great role model and he is doing what I like best, popular music within the opera”, said Didrik.

The 22-year-old, who in less than one month will be representing Norway in the Eurovision final in Oslo, also admits that to sing with Carreras is bigger for him than to participate in ESC.

- ”So far in my life this concert is the biggest that has ever happened to me, he said”.

This is the final I had voted for, I enjoyed it very much even though I didn't agree with the winner.

This can be nothing but a good sign! If the people who are going to host the Eurovision finals also hosted the best national selection, I trust we are in very good hands indeed. I was a bit worried that Norway might leave Eurovision to their trolls and reindeer like they did in much of the 70s and 80s, but thank heavens they seem to be over that oddly peculiar hey lola lola craze and decided to put forward something significantly more politically correct. Blessed be the new hosts, be they from the cold plains, the rural countrysides or the sandy deserts of Norway! I'm eternally grateful that we shall be spared the little piglet who hosted the MGP finals. A most splendid host without a doubt, but not much of a looker I'm afraid. Naturally I would have given the honour of hosting the show to the genteel and glorious Aase Kleveland, but I accept the fact that her voice has now become too deep and that her given name too closely resembles a bit of a naughty word. Nevertheless I'm acutely confident that the diverse little Norwegians on the other side of the ash cloud will stage a neat and nifty show for everyone to enjoy, no matter what home country they vote for.

Glad this won! Found Norway's national final the most enjoyable! Wanted Keep of Kalessin to win it but I'm more than happy with the lovely Didrik!! :D
Denmark's final had an amazing and it was good but chose the worst song possible. Should have been Silas and Kat.
Sweden's was ok. Few awesome songs and the stage was really nice but they chose a crappy song.
Also personally enjoyed Finland, Armenia, Poland, Moldova finals too. UK's was the worst! We suck at national finals!

I voted for DMGP. Even though it was for one night, the production, stage, songs, performers and presenters were great! :D

The final certainly was good, however I can never like the MGP stages, they annoy me so much :D Norway do deserve the award. Unfortunately the countries NF who is always superior to others, Albania, wasn't so good this year, which is a great shame to see. They normally have a handful of really great songs, which didn't happen this year. Also for the first time ever, I think MF deserves the award. I've always liked the format of MF, just the songs have been majorly crap, but this year they have had some great songs in, and really modern ones too. Such as Salem, Pauline or POS etc. It was probably the most enjoyable NF of the year for me, so it's funny that MF doesn't win the year I like it :D and COME BACK ANDORRA !! We need a NF in a local pub again !! :D

Obvious! Melofestivalen is a great event all years. Brilliant production and perfomances and this year with a lot of good songs better than Eurovision songs. Congrats Sweden

@ dimitris

Oh!Now i see You are a schlager lover seeing you have Iceland as your number 1 this year..So i fully understand why you disliked this year's M.F..It was not schlager-dominated...

haha, yeah i do love pop/dance and certain types of schlager, although i do have a thing for power ballads also :D...

@Sanka: Well it's more probably it's fishy when you win ONE catergory than you wins 4 or 5. Or can you explain for me how MGP could win this one when the almost didn't won any other catergories? So why people voted for MGP? Because they have the best songs performances?? Then why people voted for them in the other catergories?? They didn't win best stage/presentation or voting either. So how and why the won? Also if you looked at the nominations before the voting started, Sweden had the most by far! This is very strange!
