@eurovision, Albania since 2004 pass 3 times in final, Moldova 3 times, FYRO Macedonia 4 times ( with trully bad songs ), Croatia 3 times, Lithuania 2 times, Latvia 3 times. But also the countries who you mension are new in ESC and they have success ( for me to be in the final is a big success ), but Cyprus is 30 years in that contest and since 2004 only one time manage to be in the final. Montenegro is very new to juge and only one time send good song and didnt pass, only Andorra is ESC victim beacuse send 2 -3 times good songs and deserve to be in the fina,l and i bet that Andorra didnt withdraw this year beacuse of financial problems. They just fed up ! And if Estonia didnt manage last year to pass to the final for sure this year will be out from the contest.

@eurovision - aholic go belgium !

I never believed that some countries can withdraw also because of the financial crisis, but if it's true, then next year, most possibly more countries will withdraw ( hopefully not )! :( :S

@ kenan

that's true for czech republic but not for montenegro and andorra...andorra had aplied for participation but eventually was not able to find sponsors to fund an andorran entry...as for montenegro they stated that they won't participate "in order to reach financial consolidation"..

i don't think that countries like andorra montenegro (who eventually withdrew due to financial restraints) estonia (who only last year managed the final) lithuania (3 times in the final and 2 of them with bottom results..) albania (only one time at top 10 along with cyprus..) or bulgaria (who has spended so much money last year with the huge national selection and this year if y consider miro's video clip production.) had much more success than cyprus....and they are definately not as financially benefited as cyprus for sure...

Actually Montenegro, Hungary and Andorra could have participated this year, but they didn't wanted it, because the ppl from these countries haven't got interest for the ESC any more! :( Otherwise they could call/plead for help for a participation just like Latvia had done last year! :) ;)

@Eurovision, Goverment of Cyprus donate Cyprus National television and goverment money is coming from people taxes right ? And also the poor countries who participate in ESC almost every year are in the final and most of them are in top 10 so they have some profit from the money who spend in that contest right ? Cyprus is not poor countrey but is not stupid countrey as whell to participate in unfair contest with no profit for Cypriots. :)

Cyprus deserved to be in the Final in 2007 and 2008 IMO, because the songs were great! (L) And yes, Cyprus hasn't got many friends to help them to reach the Final as Turkey, Greece, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ukraine, ..., but with juries I wouldn't be pessimistic/talk sure about a possible failing for Cyprus again! Let's see how the juries will vote and if Cyprus will reach the Final ( hopefully, I really want to see Cyprus in the Final ), then I'm sure they'll participate next year again instead if withdrawing ( what a horrible word :S :O )! ;) :)

@ dimitris

even that way (which i find quite diffucult to happen thus juries not to support belgium..) it won't change my mind...last year juries placed in top 5 my personal top 5 (Norway Iceland France United Kingdom and Estonia) so i trust them quite a lot ;)
even if they don't support tom they ll definately support niamh kavanagh and ireland so i would be very satisfied again...!

@ lina

you are partially right...
i agree with the fact that cyprus deserved the final many times the last year (including 2009 although the vocals were bad..)
i disagree with what you say about cypriot people paying taxes for that....every entry is supported by the public broadcaster so every country participating pays for that participation...and many of them are much poorer than cyprus and still they participate..
(p.s. cyprus shouldn't withdraw from jesc.. :( now that netherlands and belgium did well it's unfair to stop jesc... :( )

You seem to praise juries...I'm a bit sceptic about their role...I want to read your comments in case they won't support Belgium 10... :)

If Cyprus dont pass to the final this year its better to withdraw for ESC 2011. Realy the people here fed up with that unfair contest and every year ESC viewers getting lower and lower beacuse of that. And exept from that Cyprios pay fo Cyprus participation from the goverment taxes. Cyprus song realy deserve to be in the final thats why u speak like that, if other countries from 2 semi with average songs pass beacuse of jury's and televoting help ( and i thing that is going to happen ) then Cyprus have only one way ! To follow Austria, Italy, Luxembourg and Czech Repuplic withdrawn way ! We dont have money to spend and Europe to ignore us ;) Btw Cyprus already withdraw from JESC 2011 and for ever !

@ dimitris

exactly nothing that could not be predicted...a clear example of regional voting (not to mention the fact that if cyprus was in the final we would have zero anxiety for the 12p..but that happened with the juries as well (athough not every year..) and has minor influence to the contest compared to balkan nordic and ex soviet blocks..)
juries didn't come to punish eastern europe countries...they came to balance the unjustified and unfair way people are voting...esc is a composition and song contest not a contest who wants to satisfy and stregthen the political relations...and here come the juries again ;) to influence partially and break all these shameful blocks..!

@Lina !!!

But there are BIG differences between 'My Secret Combination' and 'OPA', it doesn't matter if lots of ppl don't like Kalomoira's song or hated her or her song, her TOP 3 placing was already predictable even before the contest! ;) I have no doubts that Greece will be in TOP 10 - no more than!

@Kenan before ESC kalomoira's song was euro trash for eurofans :) like this year with OPA ;)

The juries came back in order to bring more balance...Not to punish eastern Europe(i hope)...Block voting is a nordic habbit as well... ;)
Plus,10 pts to Albania was totally justified due to albanian diaspora in Greece...Where is the big mystery here? :S

I agree with kenan on everything...especially about last year,the best ESC year in many many years, if that...let's call it "song" opa was participating it would have gone completely unnoticed...the same thing will happen this year...

This can not be Austria's taste!
Really ! Why so ?

@Whatever ... ORIGINAL ...

Sorry if I offended you with my last comment, but 'OPA' isn't a song in my style, sorry! :( About Sakis' 'This Is Our Night' last year, it wasn't good either IMO, I expected smth. ethnic like 'Shake It', but at least it was waaaaaay better than Alkaios' 'OPA'! (H) (S)

KeNaN

It IS 2010, Giorgos Alkaios will be representlng Greece and "OPA" is, to say the least, catchy...

Apart from THE ...showstopping LIVE! performance of Sakis with
"This is our night", I do not remember any other acts,
because it was an average ESC year.

So, if you meant the 2009 winning song, then I am certainly
not the person to comment, because I hated it then and now. THIS YEAR, Norway actually has a better song!!!!!!

So, whether you VOTE FOR IT or not,
it will certainly be noticed ...

@Whatever ... ORIGINAL ...

Sure, but just because it's this year, if Alkaios would have participated with his...''song'' (S)...last year, a year with almost great songs, then it WOULDN'T be noticed! ;)

KeNaN

Kalomoira (K) had her chance with "Secret Combination" and she did really well, having won 3rd place, in 2008!

Somehow, in yet another weak ESC year (just listen to all songs in a line-up) ...
Greece has come up with an ENTERTAINING, ORIGINAL and ENERGETIC song.

So, whether you VOTE FOR IT or not,
it will certainly be noticed ...

Everybody say: "OPA" !!!!!

Thank you for 10pts to Ireland.

Seriously? That danish run-of-the-mill pop tune...
... with a bit of (copy/paste) of Police's "Every breath I take"?

I may really like the song TODAY
(today, being the operative word),
but I will certainly be surprised if this wins.
Top 5, only because it seems to be popular among the OGAE.

Even --- THIS YEAR --- Norway's song is better!!!!

I remember everybody attack Kalomira's song, even and Greeks, but after final results Greece zip all trolls around Europe mouths ;)

LOL Lina, you really compare the sweet and beautiful Kalomoira and her masterpiece 'My Secret Combination' with Alkaios' 'OPA' (S)? :O

@eurovision, you can list whatever you want but your list has nothing to do with real results. Of course are some better songs but is also and some worsts who is on top of eurofan scoar " Iceland, Denmark, Romania etc" . Greece is not in top 5 around pools and also is not in top 10 in OGAE voting , so i dont understand your weird behavour against Greece
