Another book on Eurovision
Anecdotes by Belgian commentator Hautier launched today
The book is launched today, Friday May 21st, in Belgium, and will also be available shortly in France, thanks to the publishing company Les Editions de l'Arbre. A foreword has been written by Belgian winner Sandra Kim.
Jean-Paul Hautier first commented the contest for the RTBF in 1994, the first year Belgium didn't take part (due to the last place the year before). Hautier, who was not a specialist at the time - as he admits it - reckons that the task was a bit strange to him but it quickly became a pleasure. Hautier's comments are famous for being respectful with the artists, thus very professional. "It is due to the fact that I have been helped by Belgian fans of the contest" he declares.
A long and interesting interview (in French) with Jean-Pierre Hautier, by Pierre Bertinchamps, can be found here.

I hope Belgium wins the contest this year. The song 'Me and My Guitar' of Tom Dice is so beautiful! http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=GlRq8E_Teoc
Jean-Pierre Hautier has indeed always been very respectful to the artists. His comments are neutral and professional and he lets the viewers make their mind up. He's never been biased against one particular country or against a group of countries. Even when Kate Ryan didn't make it in 2006, he didn't say anything bad about the qualifiers. I also remember thet he blamed the audience for being so rude to Silvia Night and booing her during and after her performance.
I wish I understand French
the anecdotes about Eurovision should be a lot of fun especially for the insiders of the contest
