Only Sweden misses out

5 from 6 Swedish songs qualify

Although Swedish representative Anna Bergendahl missed out on a place in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest final with the song This Is My Life, Sweden will still be represented in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. The songs from Azerbaijan, Denmark, Ireland, Georgia and Norway were all written by Swedish songwriters.

Sweden's tradition at the Eurovision Song Contest is as rich as any competing nation, with four victories, and until 2010, an ever present competing nation since 1976 and has over 50 Eurovision Song Contest entries. The show has always won high viewing figures and has helped to make Sweden one of the world's leading music nations.

For the first time in history, Sweden did not qualify for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Sweden's entry This Is My Life got eliminated, however three other countries qualified from the second semifinal for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with Swedish compositions.

Azerbaijan entry Drip Drop is written by the Swedish team of Anders Bagge, Stefan Örn & Sandra Bjurman for Safura. In A Moment Like This represents Denmark and is written by and is performed by Chanée & N'Evergreen. Irish entry It's For You is written by Niall Mooney and Swedish co-writers, Mårten Eriksson, Jonas Gladnikoff & Lina Eriksson. Former Eurovision Song Contest winner Niamh Kavanagh performs the song. Georgia's entry Shine performed by Sophi is written by Hanne Sørvaag (Norwegian), Harry Sommerdahl (Swedish) and Chistian Leuzzi.

A sixth Swedish connection comes with Norway's representative Didrik Solli-Tangen is directly qualified for the final with My Heart Is Yours, written by Hanne Sørvaag from Norway and Fredrik Kempe from Sweden.

So obviously it's not the Swedish songs that are wrong, it's the Swedish televoters :D.

Anyway, good luck to everyone tonight!

This is quite a big trauma for Sweden. No country is taking this competition as seriously as we do. It also bugs me that the other guitar singersongwriter songs from Cyprus and Belgium went to the final but NOT Anna.

Isn't this ironic? The Swedish song itself didn't quialify, but half of the other competing songs had Swedes involved and went to the final.

Anna, you're amazing. Your song is wonderful, it just wasn't what Europe needed.

@ Whoever wrote this article -
The fact that somebody sings "your" songs - and does it better - is hardly a consolation. It should be even more irritating ...

However.... i´m happy Sweden is out for a change :)

pretty pointless having an international jury in MF then being shocked when the result of that jury mirrors the result at esc semi final.

That depends what you're trying to do. If you're trying to construct an entry which is specifically designed to win as many votes as possible in the Eurovision Song Contest, then yes. If you're trying to let local talent enjoy a hugely successful local music festival and let the most popular song win that festival, then no. And I seriously think Swedes care more about Melodifestivalen than Eurovision. I really do.

But I must say I was quite surprised when Sweden didn't pass yesterday. I've never been a big fan of Anna and her song, far too youthful and naive for my taste, but I do think she gave a fantastic performance and I was actually considering to put her back in the running for victory again. But it wasn't to be. Of course that's very sad for Sweden; this is like when Jemini got nil points for the UK. A real eye opener, something they probably didn't even think possible. But maybe maybe this will lead Christer Björkmann to the guillotine and Sweden can start to rise again. Let's hope so for söta bror.

Pera
Yeah, let's not forget Swedish Robert Wells accompanying Belarus on the piano :D Robert competed in MF twice but wasn't very successful.

Fredrik
"Bosnia will get high points cause all bosnians in Sweden always vote for Bosnia regardless of the quality of the song"
Hmm, I voted for Bosnia in 2008 and 2009 and I'm not Bosnian :D
I think we will vote a lot for Germany and Azerbaijan too.

pretty pointless having an international jury in MF then being shocked when the result of that jury mirrors the result at esc semi final. there were at least 6 better songs in mf final than "this is my life"
for the first time ever i found myself not caring if sweden didnt make it

Anna was the best singer yesterday!!! Niamh and Safura was really a BAD performance!!! it´s unfair but it is the system voting and I accept it. I miss Eric Saade, Ola or Timotej!!!

And the glow sticks business was a HUGE mistake.

It was obvious many people in the arena did not light theirs... unsurprisingly as they probably were supporting other countries...

It felt a bit like bullying...

Rebecca Swift [61750]

... Eurovision is obviously no longer about quality... you hear the songs when they're chosen in their countries, and you find your favorite based on the studio version of the song, and you stick to it...

That should be forbidden, because Niamh from Ireland had such poor vocals yesterday, I could barely listen to her... Azerbaijan... no seriously, just youtube her performance, it was H O R R I B L E! Anna was the best, definitely... so next year we'll get back to the fake singers aka Charlotte Perrelli, but about 15 years younger, dressed in a short LED-dress and we'll win! Cause Europe likes fake performers :)

Sweden's going to vote for Norway, Denmark, Azerbaijan (even though they don't deserve it), Germany and Iceland...

I don't like the fact that we hand out our songwriters like that, but how many of these songs were sent into Melodifestivalen, and didn't get in? Denmark did for sure... I'm not surprised they tried Denmark... I hate the Swedish jury, I really do...

Mark Eastwood [38117]

It's a shame Sweden won't be in the final, but it was not a great performance. The nerves seemed to get to her on the quiet parts of the song and was only comfortable when she upped the volume (which wasn't often). There were times I thought she was turning into a machine gun and I just wanted someone to give her a big hug and take her somewhere safe.

If anyone was going to send someone used to performing to big arena audiences I've expected it to be the Swedes.

Fredrik Holmgren [34117]

I can almost without a doubt say that my country (Sweden) will vote like this tomorrow:

12p: Denmark
10p: Norway
8p: Iceland
7p: Bosnia

The top points will not go to Denmark and Norway because they are our neigbouhors or because swedes have written the songs, but becuase they are the best songs among this years poor entrys. And Bosnia will get high points cause all bosnians in Sweden always vote for Bosnia regardless of the quality of the song.

I would love to vote for Iceland tomorrow, but since i´m going to be in telenor arena i can´t. Poor me.. ;-)

To me Belgium is definitely the winner this year. Tom Dice singing his song 'Me and My Guitar' is so beautiful and so touching!!!

well, I never understood how anyone could have any expectations about a singer who looked like she just had come out of a radiator in some early David Lynch film:
