The Eurovision Song Contest sex change?
Since the birth of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, women have dominated the competition. The first winner, Lys Assia set the trend. In recent years, Female soloists won the competition in 13 of the last 20 years, with consecutive female winners from 1991-1993, 1995-1999 and 2002-2005. Before 2008, the last male soloist to win was Tuto Cutungo in 1990.
Against all trends and odds, however, the last two Eurovision Song Contests have been won by the men and many believe it will happen again in 2010. In total, 33 winners have been female soloists, 9 have been male soloists and 15 have been duets or bands.
Karen Fricker of the Eurovision Research Network (ERN) believes "There is definitely something going on with young female voters and the Eurovision Song Contest. Both the last two winners have been attractive young men who have youth appeal. It will be interesting to see if a singer like Harel from Israel or Tom from Belgium wins this year and if research can help us discover if young women are voting".
Later tonight, we will know whether for the first time in history, a male solo artist wins the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time, whether a woman regains the crown or whether another rare occurance takes place with a band winning.

Bring on the men! Makes my night a whole lot better seeing some yummy guys!! Haha
I don't think the sex, youth or sex-appeal of singers is the most important criterion to vote. For example, i supported Norway's song last year and I don't find Alexander Rybak attractive at all. The year Russia won I was supporting Armenia, and this year I support Norway, not because of the degree of attraction of the singer, but because Slovakia didn't make it to the final. Moreover, I don't see why if young male singer's sex-appeal is the matter when voting, this Karen thinks it's young girls the ones voting and not old men. Stop heterosexism, please!
Pedro,
I am sorry if I sounded too harsh, it's just that some of the threads can become nasty in no time at all.
"LOST AND FORGOTTEN" stands out from that crowded dough of circus acts, which have shifted music and lyrics off the focus of many participants and audience in Eurovision Song. This beautiful melody could become a classic similar to "SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES" (The Platters) or "GIRL" (The Beatles). All of them go about love, dissapointment and irony of life.
SUCCESS TO PETER NALITCH & FRIENDS IN THE FINAL!!!
My VOTES from HOLLAND to RUSSIA!
Shevek, I sure will and I didn't mean to be disrespectful, it was all supposed to be a joke, nothng more
Pedro,
Milan should be included in the very good singers category. As for the rest, let's keep the tasteless remarks to a minimum, please. Will you be supporting Filipa later in the day?
In which category should I include the Serbian singer?? I'm confused!
I hope its a man who gets the trophy tonight and not some obscure asian wannabe!
good luck to harel skaat -israel the best singer in this competition
we love u harel . vote for israel
))
Go Belgium !
VOTE for Tom Dice, the best this year !
If its for the male look it most be Norway again. But Belgium has such honest and wonderfull song ... Belgium go for it !!
I don't care if it's a man or a woman who wins as long as the song is the best one. In my opinion men have been the best this year - more of the good songs have been by male singers/bands. My top 6 were all male. Another man should win!
If a woman wins this year it means it will be a bad winner as none of the female singers have the best songs now that Slovakia is out. Maybe Germany... I'd like that even though it's not in my top 10.
my lovely Russian song won't win, but hopefully Spain can!
Vote for Spain! (or Turkey)
cyprus will win tonight
VOOTE FOR SPAAAIN!!! Algo Pequeñito, uououoou

It is always like that on the day of the final. A lot of VOTE FOR screaming and hardly any content in most comments.
This becomes to look like an advertisement spam! "Vote for my country" etc! Guys enough!! I will vote for my favorites and no one can get my vote thanks to advertisements and askings
vote for the song!! not for the country or the sex appeal....
This is definitely it!
I could not care less whether a man, or a woman, or a band wins the contest, as long as the victory is deserved. Good luck to all participants.
vote for spain :-)
