Most popular show in the country
Greece: Over 3.7 million viewers watch Eurovision final
In a country with a population of a little less than 11 million people, it is certainly a great achievement for a show to be watched by approx. 3.763.000 viewers. The Eurovision Song Contest final was once more the most watched show in the country with its share peaking at 72,5% when Giorgos Alkaios was on stage. The interest remained high throughout the show with an average audience of 3.119.000 viewers dropping slightly after the Greek song and rising again for the results.
The past decade has seen a sharp rise in TV ratings for the Eurovision Song Contest final in Greece. Whereas the contest used to be very popular in 1992 and 1993 with a share of 32,9 and 38,1 respectively, it gradually dropped to a mere 9,8% in 2000. Helena Paparizou's third place in 2001, though, gave the contest new life in the country. TV ratings rose to 24,3 that year only to double in 2002 when the share jumped to 50% and kept rising year after year. Eurovision achieved record viewing ratings in 2006 when it was hosted by ERT in Athens.
Below you can see the Eurovision Song Contest Final TV ratings in Greece year by year since 1992:
9/5/1992 32,9
15/5/1993 38,1
30/4/1994 19,9

18/5/1996 16
3/5/1997 19,3

29/5/1999 14,6
13/5/2000 9,8
12/5/2001 24,3

Well, I still think Greece did not deserve our 12 points at all. I suspect the diaspora vote won against the professional jury vote. There are lots of Greeks living in Belgium. But great for you guys that there's still so much interest...
And last, but MOST IMPORTANT:
... Somehow it was expected that NO points would come, this year, from our "neighbour" FYROM ...
You know, it is that country using a ...STOLEN ...historical
GREEK name!!!!!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, NOT because they did not like the song OR performance!!!!
Further to my main comment below ...
Here are the Top 10 results:
1.Germany - 246 (ESC 2010 winner -- shared 2/3 with USA and DENMARK --
since "Satellite" was NOT even written by Germans (still, 1/3 for Lena)
2.Turkey - 170 ( with a whopping -76 points difference from the ESC winning SONG)
3.Romania - 162 ( -12 points difference from No. 2)
and these were the Top 3
BUT the rest --each-- could have just as easily been placed in
order NO. 4 because there is a very SMALL difference in points
---------------------- AS YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE------------------
4.Denmark - 149 ( with a notable -13 points difference from No. 3)
5.Azerbaijan - 145 ( - 4 points ONLY from No. 4)
6.Belgium - 143 ( - 6 points ONLY from No. 4)
7.Armenia - 141 ( - 8 points ONLY from No. 4)
8.GREECE - 140 ( - 9 points ONLY from No. 4
----- and this, only because there were absolutely NO votes from Baltic states
and NO votes from ex-Soviets ... whatsoever (!!?!!?!!)
as in ... 0 point "received" from any one of those countries ...
but NOT because they did not like the song OR the performance...(!!!!!)
; it was because it was ... STRONG song !!!!!!!
9.Georgia - 136 ( notable - 13 points difference from No. 4)
10.Ukraine - 108 ( significant - 41 points difference from No. 4)
Well, ... GREEK Feta certainly is the tastiest cheese on the Planet*!!!!!!
(* Planet = GREEK word)
The Greek song was crap. Yes, the singer was a very nice and friendly guy, but appart from that the song was B A D.
I personaly hate the Alkeos/Kalomira/Sarbel style. Greece needs to change this line of low quality cheesy songs, for God's sake.
Best Greek songs were Antique 2001 and Sakis 2009.
BOTH songs and ESC performances of and Giorgos Alkaios
& Friends were, above all, professional.
"This is our night" (ESC 2009) with Sakis Rouvas
was sleek, modern, uplifting
and ... ENERGETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--STRONG, clever song, too!!!!!
"OPA" (ESC 2010) with Giorgos Alkaios
& Friends was ORIGINAL with a happy MOTIVATIONAL cheer and ... ENERGETIC Greek-style
!!!!!!!!!!
--DYNAMIC, catchy song, too!!!!!
BOTH can make you get up and DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!
BOTH performances of these SONGS and ARTISTS received roaring applauses AND cheering of fans that ...blew the roofs off the venues in Moscow and Oslo.
OPAAAAAAAAAAA ... These were OUR nights !!!!
Winning may be good, but such ... WINNING PERFORMANCES
... well, they last forever!!!!
So, seriously you must be joking ...
GO GREECE
!!!!!!!!!
Sakis sucked last year... He surely did not deserve 7th place... Giorgos could do better but you have to admit that we should be grateful with his placing because our song (although I like it) is kind of cheap...
Greece deserved a clear top-3, end of story. Giorgos Alkaios and Friends gave the most amazing and proffesional performance on the night, and their catchy song set the audience on fire in the stadium. Very very unfair result that makes one thingk that bringing back the juries was a very bad idea. They are obviously clue-less ad not proffesional enough as to award good proffesional stage performances and not boring amateurs with mediocre stage acts ad songs. Last year the amazing performance of Sakis Rouvas was awarded 4rth place by the televote but ended 7th with the jury vote. Plus, juries will prove to be biased and political as they have been in the past, the ex-soviet votes this years says it all. Not to mention the Scandi votes that put Denmark with that mediocre heard before song and cold forgettable performance top-4.
super star!!!

Kate Garbe, Sofia Vossu & Elpida were BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, but will add Elina "Pia prosefhi"
Kate Garbe, Sofia Vossu & Elpida were BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!
candyman! really ! i dont remember that! but you have to admit that the last decade eurovision in Greece is huge!
ooooooooh Kaiti Garbi was amazing then! what a dress , what an artist!
The viewing rates in Eurovision 1993 were pretty amazing too!! Keti Garbi
since 2001 with Antique, Eurovision became very popular in Greece ! But Saki Rouvas made it in 2004 extremely popular, and since than the figures views never changed!
Let Greece sends a young artist next year with a totally different style!
Select 1 artist internallywith four songs
or select 3 artist with one song and make a NF!
Excellent GREECE
I simply could NOT resist one more special "OPA" comment!!!!!!
Everybody said ... "OPA", including ESC 2009 winner, Alexander Rybak!!!!
(clip courtesy of Sara
"shares the moment"
---> http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=w6POkbmaOPs
But still Greek votes really disappointed me...
Further to my main comment:
I missed Bulgaria's
Miro with "Angel si ti" in the Final, too ...
THANK YOU for entertaining us, !!!
Byeeeeeeeee!!!!
Correction: to vote ... against the 20 stronger songs that got through to the Final.
Don't forget to check out those two clips below (2nd video is the ORIGINAL artist of 1st clip's SONG) !!!!
GO GREECE!!!!!
In another analysis, GREECE
would have placed No. 3,
IF “OPA” was voted only by 25 qualifying countries in Final.
Here is an article written on day of ESC 2010 Final:... http://entertainment(...)leId=281474978266305
... Someone else's prediction!!!
Anyway, this may NOT be a "rule", BUT it is my guess
that certain
ESC - SF1/SF2 ... non-qualifiers ... subconsciously(?!)
… seem
to vote ... against the 10 stronger songs that got through to the Final.
( By the way, Slovakia
and Malta
deserved to be in Final
and so did Finland
. The Netherlands
and Poland
, too,
because the SONGS and ARTISTS representing these
non-qualifying countries ENTERTAINED US, as did the rest ...
... THANK YOU !!!!! )
Giorgos Alkaios & Friends with that ... ENERGETIC ... Greek-style
performance
of "OPAAAA" did give a ... WINNING IMPRESSION!!!!!
.... Roaring applause AND cheering by fans ....
Greece's "OPA" ended up winning the No. 8 spot out of 39 songs
in the ESC 2010 Final and ... No. 2 ... in ESC 2010 Semifinal 1.
Song was ORIGINAL and it was sung in GREEK!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO GIORGOS ALKAIOS
& FRIENDS FOR THEIR SUCCESS !!!!
THANK YOU, EUROPE !!!!!! Next year we will share with you again another ESC entry !!! It will be different -- maybe in English, maybe not ... BUT you can ...BET
on another highly anticipated ... Greek-style
performance!!!
Congratulation to Germany's LENA
and her ESC 2010 winning song "Satellite"!!!
Glad that Austria and Lichtenstein will be joining then ...
See you next year !!!! HAVE A GOOD SUMMER !!!!
………… Sehen im nächsten Jahr !!!! HABEN EINEN GUTEN SOMMER !!!!

GO GREECE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope they send another song in Greek next year, but I really hope there won't be any "OPA" in the lyrics for once
LOL for once? We've sent 31 songs to eurovision and only this year the word OPA was in the lyrics
Nice to see they got interest.
I hope they send another song in Greek next year, but I really hope there won't be any "OPA" in the lyrics for once...
Also I'd like to see a different genre for a change.
I absolutelly LOVED sibel in 2006!!! I wanted her to win and got mad with my country (Greece) and the low points we gave her... (i even bet on her...
). Superstar is one of my all time favourite!
I liked Serbia 09 too. I think it's ethnic elements were very well presented. Especially compared to Serbia 10.
Again problems with Azerbaijan and Armenia: http://eurovisiontimes.wordpress.com/
Why can'T they just stop this petty idioty?
They need to grow up!
i don't think that dutch entry was terrible...even it could be in final instead of russia, bosnia herzegovina, cyprus, moldova or belarus..
@w s
No offense, don't worry, but the Dutch entry was really terrible! Hind's and Edsilia's entries were excellent and deserved to be in the Final, but Sieneke ... NO!
