Malta: Enhance the setup
Yesterday during the TV show Inkontri (a discussion programme) aired on ONE TV, the head of the Maltese delegation Joe Dimech stated that PBS is in position to receive any suggestions in order to enhance Malta’s presentation in the contest. A seminar which will be open for discussion towards next year’s participation is planned to be held in the upcoming weeks. Last Sunday the new PBS chairman Joe Mizzi confired the country’s participation in the next Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Germany. He insisted that Malta must continue to participate but the Maltese need to change their attitued towards the contest.
In recent years the Eurovision interest went down in a country which traditionally always showed a passion to Europe’s favourite show. Ex-chairperson of the Malta Song board Grace Borg praised Thea Garrett’s vocal performance but critisised the act presented on stage. Borg is in a current outburst with the Garrett family and PBS due to an alleged unhonoured signed contact. Ex-chairman of the Malta Song board Robert Abela said that Maltese composers were "stuck to the same old melody of seven notes" and they should be much more creative to do well. Robert Abela was head of the Maltese delegation between 2006 and 2008 when the country kicked-off with continuos unsuccessful results in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Thea Garrett was Malta’s 23rd representative in the Eurovision Song Contest. She placed 12th in the first semi-final with 7 points short to qualify to the final.

If all else fails, they could always send Chiara once again...
Luke I agree on the others but this year the song didn't pass not because of neighbours but because people didn't like it I think!!THAT's IT!! because Thea with her immpecable voice earned votes from ALL participants except 5, 2/3 of which were western countries!!
There are loads of great bands/singers in Malta such as Muxu, Chasing Pandora, Wintermoods, Red Elektrik but they don't wish to participate because they fear they get lost! But last year wintermoods have shown their interest to participate when they were guests in this years eurosong!!I also like Clinton Paul songs, of which they don't ever make it to eurosong but then they make success in the MALTA HIT SONG such as, Medusa of Romina Mamo!
Coming to the eurosong! Please can you update it with a decent stage and presentation or else don't do anything!Just give us a decent program with decent songs!!!
Gosh are you all crazy? Why should the western withdraw? Even my country, Portugal, being the oldest country that never won I think we shouldn't withdraw.
@Luke Grech
I totally agree with you.
I hate the fact the people are still thinking that because Malta sends ballads it doesn't pass to the finals.... If you don't know nothing about Malta's history please don't comment about it.
Malta failed to pass in 2007 with Vertigo which was very original not a ballad
2008 - Vodka ( I'm 100% sure it was NOT a ballad) but still failed to pass
2009- What If We (ballad, I agree it was a disgrace Malta passed because of the singer Chiara) BUT MALTA PASSED
2010- My Dream failed to pass certainly not because of the song or the singer but because of the neighbors.
The Eurovision Song CONTEST should change not the COUNTRIES !!
AND WHAT MALTA SHOULD DO NEXT YEAR IS TO DISRESPECT ALL OTHER COUNTRIES AND SEND A SONG IN MALTESE WHERE NO ONE WILL UNDERSTAND DURING THE NIGHT.... THEN MAYBE THEY VOTE FOR US.
When we were original we still didn't pass Vertigo was a very original song, and everyone was talking about it, but it failed !!
Geography wins against Talent I guess!!
Malta needs to stop having selection processes with 50 awful songs and have one or two shows with 10 DECENT songs. Scrap the seagull or whatever it was and have a modern, up to date song instead, and maybe they'll stand a chance of being in the final once more.
WINTER MOODS FOR ESC 2011 PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Yes, Malta - it is time to send something other than a boring, cheesy ballad in English! J. Anvil was great, Dario had an OK song too that could have improved even more and Wayne Micallef was probably the freshest choice from this years Maltese final... I hope for more music styles and I wish to hear it being sung in Maltese language even though ESC is not rewarding that anymore... sucks.
i really wish
eurovision song contest
malta 2012
in my dreams!!!
malta must send this maltese artists and i'm sending some of their shows locally!!these artists do not want to participate in ESC because they do not want to be eliminated!!
malta must send kristina casolani, scar or chasing pandora.
kristina casolani

scar

chasing pandora

watch them and tell them!!!!!these are REALLY GD MALTESE SONGS!!!
I'm agreeing that Malta has to stop with the ballads for now. They should step it up a notch and send something truly amazing!. Or send Fabrizio Faniello again
.
But Laura Pausini rose to fame because of San Remo. She won the young artist competition in 1993. In fact lots of the great Italian artists started in San Remo.
Malta needs to get rid of ballads for the moment. Thea is great, she has a strong voice and she's a sweet and nice girl, but the song just wasn't right.
I'd love to see Malta win the contest! They should try a different style, something they've never sent before.
@Jon Jon, the real "big names" in Italy don't go to San Remo as well. I'm speaking about Laura Pausini, Tiziano Ferro, Zucchero and so on.
But we have lots of very good and well-known singers who would love to go to the ESC. It's our broadcaster RAI, it's just its fault and no one else's if we're not taking part anymore!
I wonder who the Italian singers would be !!!!! They have San Remo and stated many times that eurovision does not interest them anymore the big names all go to San Remo cause that is were they make their money from .Likes for likes I prefer the Maltese singers .
Too many repeats or trashy songs that they send. It's as simple as that. Last year's song was the worse and most vapid, cliche and uninteresting of all, ironically it made the final.
Fantastic
I like their mentality!
Chiara will be back. She's said this many times as this for her is like starting a book which she never got to finish.
Malta should allow Italian singers/composers to enter its NF. At least, that fact would give real competence for the native ones.
And about ki.var: don't pay attention to that disgraceful person, he/she is always spamming all ESC sites and TVE's ESC-blog with disrespectful stupidities.
ESCtoday should ban her/his/its profile.
Malta - you need to do what the Uk needs to do and bring your entries up to date. The show is modernising and we arent moving faster enough! Nice tunes arent enough any more
As long as you don't bring Chiara back, I'm happy. Try something new and different. AND NOT A BALLAD.
All Malta needs is a good song, some new fresh creative songwriters, instead of dated oldfashioned cliche pop songs. They do have good singers, it's just that the songwriting is lacking. That is the only problem, there is nothing else at fault. I would say the Malta NF is hidelously long winded with more bad/average acts/songs than good. So maybe more about quality than quanity.

a fleur de toi
We will be back with something different next year.
Please ignore Ki.var, he/she is....strange...
Oh Lordi I can't beleive that Ki.var is still banging on with this 'Western countries should withdraw' nonsense. Germany won, with Denmark and Belgium - BELGIUM! - in sixth place. What more does he want? Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Iceland and Ireland in the op five, in that order?
As to Malta, for goodness' sake, they qualified last year. One defeat and it's 'withdraw! withdraw!'.
I suspect, judging by the flag, that Ki.var will only stop calling for Western countries to withdraw when Spain wins.
Malta will be the new Andorra.
Western should withdraw... if not, they are throwing money to the WC.
