Eurovision Song Contest 2009 nominated for Rose d'or

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, which was held in Moscow, is nominated for a Rose d'or award in the Variety & Live event show category. The winner out of the eight nominees in this category will be announced this autumn.

The Rose d'or is an annual television award, which will be given out for the 50th time this year. 515 tv shows were submitted and a jury picked 110 nominees, which were split into ten categories.

Three Eurovision Song Contest representatives have already won theses awards. Rudi Carrell, who represented the Netherlands in 1960, won a silver rose in 1964 as well as a "lifetime achievement award" in 2001. Esther Ofarim, who represented Switzerland in 1962, won a silver rose in 1964 along with her husabnd Abi. Vicky Leandros, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1972, had won a bronze rose in 1971. Furthermore, the Cirque du soleil, which performed the interval act in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, won the producer's award in 1989.

@ rost

That is your privelege. Til lag åt alle kan ingjen gjera: you can't please all of the people all of the time.
Personally I'm very excited about what Germany will put on after all these years and God willing we will all be around to enjoy it.

@ iJan Gustavson [15987]
It;s not just the money Moscow put into it
If there were not moscow -
I still think Oslo 2010 was the WORST ESC since 2000!

@ rost

Hi.hi., now I understand your sour grapes about Oslo, you are Russian and worried about this year's competition. Don't worry, no ''normal'' country can compete with the monies lavished on the 2009 ESC final in Moskva.
Hope you get your award, you have certainly paid a lot for it!!!!

GO EBU!
GO MOSCOW!!!

@Azy

also showed us many famous buildings, landmarks etc from each country. :)

But that idea has brought problems, too! :S :(

using the subject of Miss World was very interesting

We had done this already in 2004 with Azra Akın, Miss World 2002! :)

I think Norway did a fantastic job this year especially considering the current economic crisis. The stage looked great and I would say that the interval act was actually better in concept than that of Moscow last year - it just had that feel good feeling with it. I think Oslo 2010 is getting some very unfair criticism. To call it 10 years out of date is just nonsense

However, Moscow put on what I can only call a slightly smaller Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. The show was incredible, the stage was beautiful (especially well used by Iceland & Estonia in particular) and just had a huge feel overall. I don't think we'll ever get that scale again but who knows what they'll come up with next!

I think with less stage and less money, ESC can be done. Look Norway... I loved the interval act... In Russia, it was everything about Russia, about their money invested...
Buajjjjj... I prefered the norwegian way to do the show.

In my opinion...esc2009 was one of the best I've seen, the format was great, the songs were generally excellent, the interval act was amazing and using the subject of Miss World was very interesting as it allowed us to see what a typical girl looked like from each country and also showed us many famous buildings, landmarks etc from each country. :)

Moscow 2009 was not the best ESC show ever! -
For me - it sothing out of the Eurovision world!!
So Grand! New! Incredible! Fresh and Innovative !!!!
And absolutely Breathtaking -
which I missed so much in mundane Oslo!!! -
Fashy, hype, superb Moscow 2009!!! -
And with the huge winner with the record braking result! -
EBU and Moscow 2009 - truly deserve to win!!!!!

This show has continously pushed itself to new heights in recent years

I just cannot agree more -
but not this year 2010 - cheap, provincial, at 10 years back

Fantastic news for Eurovision!

It's supporting what I've been saying all along, that the production of the contest has been the best that it has ever been in recent years. This show has continously pushed itself to new heights in recent years, and has been the real positive to come out of this show in the last decade.

Every year I think to myself after seeing the production " If they carry on like that, they will win awards".

The interval act from Moscow was class. The opening to the Oslo final was class. The interval act in Oslo was class.

Best interval acts ever:
Riverdance
Cirque du Soleil
Madcon

Fingers crossed it wins. :) Well done EBU!!!

@Andre JA (YES NOW I)

Your right, my country has send gr8 entries to Eurovision and deserved to reach the Final at each time ( in my and your opinion of course :P )! :)

@ andre ja

i think tallinn 2002 was the worst esc in history . it was such a mess , the stage was so small , it looked like a stage of a discoteque , the sound was bad , and above all the songs in 2002 were awful which also resulted in a worst winner ever . i doubt that nowdays that latvian song would even pass the semis

lololol
indeed that is true but lets face it recently turkey has sent great songs 08 wasnt my cup of tea but was good 09 also good 10 amazing so ... but this way being already in final would let one more spot to one country lol

good choices :D
i would pt norway with 3 and copenhagen with 2 but tallinn was the worst in this decade by far :P

I also think that Turkey's automatically qualification will be better, because Turkey is a sure qualifier as you all know, so another country can have the change to pass to the Final then! :)

@Andre: Yes I believe number 2 will be automatically qualified for the final next year, so Turkey won't have to pass through the semis in Germany. ;)
