I will defend my title

Germany: Lena live on UK TV

This year's Eurovision Song Contest winner Lena Meyer-Landrut announced on British TV her intention to defend her Eurovision title at next year's contest in Germany. Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on the popular ITV show This Morning, Lena said on the UK daytime television show that sports people always talk about defending their title and that she wants to do the same.

Lena was introduced by Phil and Holly as an international singing sensation. They welcomed Lena ,who was dressed in jeans and purple jacket, and then asked about her entering the contest in Germany. She said she told nobody in case nothing happened. She did not think she would win either the German national final nor the Eurovision Song Contest. Holly likened her to current English pop stars Kate Nash and Lilly Allen ...but Lena said she was herself and did not want to copy anyone.  Moreover at the contest she wanted to be just herself and did not like the big pyrotechnics or dance shows which were used by other acts at Eurovision.

She agreed that the contest had been seen as old fashioned in Germany as well as in the UK ...but maybe she had changed that.  Most importantly Lena said she wished to defend her title next year in Germany 2011. She said sports people always talk about defending their title, she wants to do the same. Holly said she was very brave.  They also mentioned that Angela Merkel had said that Lena was a wonderful example of young Germany.

At the end just before Lena sang they mentioned her new album My cassette player and then she sang Satellite with two guitarists, a drum player, keyboard player and two backing singers. Lena ended her debut British TV with a big Thank you as the programme ended.

Of course that you can have your own opinion, but to say that Carola made fool of herself with that AMAZING song and reaching 5th place for Sweden in 2006 with 100% televoting is really nonsense!
That makes your opinion sucks coz you don't work with facts very well :P

@ garry chelsea!,
rofl dude have you watched germany vs serbia? I guess not because it seems you just wanna talk bad about german football team or about germans in general, i dont know.
Maybe u missed a little detail, Germany played for about 60 min with 10 vs 11 thx to the spanish referee who used 9 yellow cards in a relatively friendly match. But even with 10 vs 11 Germany had some good opportunities and they dominated the match most of the time. The only real bad thing about the german game was the way Podolski missed the goal, including the penalty. So it was defentely not an awesome game by the 10 german players, but saying they played really really bad is just ridiculous and wrong.
If you wanna know how a really really bad team looks like watch England vs Algeria again and focus on the english team.

I am German, and obviously, this is just my theory. I am really happy about Lena´s win, and I don´t mind them using Eurovision as a platform for selling their music. In fact, everyone should do it. Much better than stupid nationlists taking the stage seeing this as some sort of national pride thing.

"Johnny Logan has won 3 times, 2 as a singer and songwriter and one time as a songwriter, in 1992)."

Johnny Logan did not write the 1980 song!

Hello? Do you believe for one second that Lena´s return would be to secure Eurovision glory once more? This is show BUSINESS. it s pure capitalism, the Eurovision is just a platform. They do not believe for one second that they will win again. BUT by bringing an established artist, they will have an album to go with it, and just in Germany, the audience will be more than 20 million ! Not one German will miss this once-in-a-lifetime event of German Eurovision. Lena s song will get maximum exposure and will sure be a no. 1 hit single in Germany. That s what counts to them... Germany is the biggest music market in Europe along with UK... that s why they re sending her back.......

Carola, Charlotte and Niamh already made fool of themselves, don't join this group Lena, please
How on the earth you can say that thy made fool of themselves, they had AMAZING songs when return to ESC and that's what counts!
Especially Carola who even was 5th in Athens with 'Invincible" (should have won of course), then was 100% televoting!
"hero" is also legendary ESC entry, no matter which place it got!

If Lena wants to do it again 2 years in a row she is very very very brave, but put it this way, the reality is that this is only song contest, show, why should she even bother when winning is not guaranteed, making excuses that they wanna defend their title to participate again is ridiculous, shouldn't other artists be given a chance to fight for victory? If germany can only rely on Lena to win than that is most ridiculous thing for one country to compete, they don't see it as contest but singer contest, that is pathetic, Lena please stay away from eurovision because Carola, Charlotte and Niamh already made fool of themselves, don't join this group Lena, please

Richard M
well if Johnny Logan can do it, I don't see why Lena can't win twice, but It'd have to be a mega song to counteract the fact that people may be a bit fed up with her.

Remember that when Johnny Logan won (1980 and 1987) it was only jury (not televoters), and it wasn't two years in a row either ;p (even though Ireland has won 3 years in a row and Johnny Logan has won 3 times, 2 as a singer and songwriter and one time as a songwriter, in 1992).

VIVA ALGERIA! ;-) ... and don´t be so feindselig to us.
I love the UK, but not you Garry - and by the way, it´s about music, boy - did you listen to Lenas fantastic album already?

See you in the final round my dear ...

>>she will be back next year...2 years in row...that doesn´t make sense!

Indeed, that doesn't make sense, as it would only be a double then. Of course she will return in 2012 as well to win the triple.

Wonder what the rules state about last year's winner singing the winning song again and then competing in the same contest.

I m not really happy with Lena returning BUT if you want to return, it makes more sense the next year than say 15 years later when it will appear as if you were desperate for a career revival.

ATM , Lena is at the height of her success, and it will be considered a bold move to compete again as she can only fail. Yet, if you do it the Niamh or Carola way, it will look just sad and desperate.
