esctoday.com TOP TEN: No. 5 and 4

The seventh esctoday.com TOP TEN list continues today with the places 5 and 4 being announced. As announced on Saturday, this week's topic are the TOP TEN best selling Eurovision artists.

This list features the ten Eurovision Song Contest performers, who are said to have sold the most records, CDs and downloads worldwide. The numbers are based on various sources and mostly estimated based on sales certifications.

So here we start...

No. 5 - Alla Pugacheva

It is estimated that Alla Pugacheva has sold 150-250 million records worldwide. She started her career after she had finished school as a pianist and group vocalist. Her career as a soloist began with various victories in music competitions. In the 1970s, she became probably the most popular and successful music artist in the USSR thanks to many hit albums, songs and soundtrack contributions. She also starred in the highly poluar film Zhenshina, kotoraya poet and composed and performed most of the songs on the soundtrack album, which is said to have been sold more than 50 million times. In 1978, she won the Intervision Song Contest in Poland.

In 1997, Alla Pugacheva was chosen internally to represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest. Two years before, she had already been seen in the green room, when she supported her husband Filip Kirkorov. With her song Primadonna, she was one of the top favourites in Dublin but she eventually only finished 15th getting 33 points for her own composition.

No. 4 - Julio Iglesias

Julio Iglesias is reported to have sold more than 250 million reocrds worldwide. He started off as a professional football player but had to quit the sport after an accident. After studying law, he launched his career as a singer in 1968. Since then, he has released more than 100 albums with songs in 14 languages. His singles and albums received more than 2500 gold and platinum certifications making him one of the most successful male solo artists ever.

In 1970, Julio Iglesias represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest with his own composition Gwendolyn. He finished equal fourth among the twelve contestants.

Julio Iglesias' biggest hit worldwide was probably Un canto a Galicia, which was released in many different languages. However, his biggest hit in Spain was most likely his Eurovision Song Contest entry Gwendolye

Un canto a Galicia (1972):

Tomorrow, we will introduce no. 3 and 2 on the list.

I don't think that Gwendolyn is the biggest hit of Julio Iglesias in Spain. He has many many songs better known in Spain.

Top 3 probably 3 Nana, 2 Cliffie and 1 ABBA

Btw guys, watch out as one of these days Julio's son, Enrique will do some watersurfing in the nude... He made a bet that if Spain would win the World cup, he would do that.... I also heard somewhere that we will need some "magnifying glasses"... if you get my hint...

I thought Alla would be higher, in Soviet Union there was no family who didn't have her albums!

Alla Pugacheva is the best Russian singer. She should represent Russia another time.

She has retired last year. And she has bad memory about ESC so she will never risk her status again ;) But her idiotic- ex-hasband Phillip Kirkorv maybe will try it, as I see he is a big ESC fan!

I think Enrique should represent Spain like his father did back then! :P

Julio's biggest hit here in the uSA is a duet he did with Willie Nelson..."To All the Girls I Loved Before".

It's worth listening to!

Julio Iglesias (L) is a great talent! just like his son Enrique Iglesias (K)

lol maybe Anna Vissi :P

I'm not that sure about Cliff Richard, because his name isn't in the wikipedia list, but again Pugacheva's name wasn't there either. Let's wait and see...
