Will Israel withdraw?

Israel: IBA manager questions entering Eurovision

The board of Israeli broadcaster IBA convened yesterday to discuss next year's budget and plan. The broadcaster's general manager expressed his doubts concerning Eurovision Song Contest's participation.

Israeli broadcaster IBA, which suffered a lot of criticism in recent years, has been enjoying a revival lately, after its nice productions during FIFA World Cup. Now, the broadcaster is keen to use this leverage to future plans. Israeli leading website for media and communication Ice.co.il reported yesterday that during IBA's board meeting, general manager Mordechai Shklar expressed doubts about the necessity of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest.

"When IBA did not have a solid plan with anchor programmes, our Eurovision participation once a year was worth it. But now, that we are getting stronger, this might not be true anymore", said Shklar. It should be noted, that IBA's manager has already expressed several times in the past his opinion, according to which, IBA should withdraw from the contest. Nevertheless, Israel never withdrew.

Israel's achievements in Eurovision during the last decade were mostly poor. In 2010 Israel even sent one its most popular artists, Har'el Ska'at, who finished 14th in the final. Nevertheless, his particiaption did not attract much attention and viewing figures, as expected.

@Ki.var

Eurovision has nothing to do with human rights...if it did, it would probably be called Amnestyvision or something like that, lol. Eurovision is all about the music and not about human rights. ;)

I don't want Lebanon, neither Israel to compete in the competition, because both countries are against the human rights, and I think this is a civilized contest, so uncivilized must go on.

@Lina

Even if 'private' Lebanese channels were to air anything to do with Israel...those broadcasters will still be breaking the law. So, no broadcaster can win.

On wikipedia it say..most EBU members are state owned channels but there are members who are private channels also. Hmm..maybe state owned channels have no interest in jesc. I can't really say much about jesc because i don't know much about it. I'm only a fan of the original esc :)

@Azad
I think the same as you do! The problem here is the law and people should feel bad a country take part because of those reasons (cause other country don't take part). They should study from Armenia-Azerbaijan and don't act like children as they do now with their law!

@Azad, National broadcasters are no so neutral beacuse theyr goverment departments, so since theyr goverment departments and goverments make the lows they have blame. For example if any countrey police make something rong and the lows cover that rong thing the people who is going to attack the police or the lows? Also i wonder why EBU dont allow private channels to participate in ESC like they do for JESC. IF private channels are responsibles for the contest for sure we will never see again a countrey to withdraw and also songs, singers and songwhriters will be proffecionals beacuse private channels have more money than National channels and also they will tried the best for theyr images.

@Harel

hmm...I'm actually very curious about that myself. What would the EBU do if Lebanon were to host esc and Israel decide to re-enter the contest? :O
Maybe these things could happen....Israel won't be able to enter the contest as Israelis are not allowed in Lebanon, or maybe the EBU will ban Lebanon.
But if Lebanon were to be banned..that would be a problem because who'd host esc then? Maybe alot of countries wouldn't want to host it as it costs alot to host or maybe another country will host it (as a pathetic way to declare themselves as winners, lol).
If the EBU would want to give Lebanon a fine for the prevention on Israel to enter or some other reason related to Israel...they won't be able to, because the broadcaster itself isn't to blame; lebanese law is to blame.

Lebanon must lift the lows about Israel and not the ban. Lebanon has no ban since 2009.

Cause i like that song , it comes down to matter of taste. then based on what did you use sentense "mother russia" ? If by points, given to Russian then the same relates to Cyprus -Greece.

Why doesn't Lebanon just lift the ban and that way you will have both Israel and Lebanon in the contest together.

wow another fake angelic loves ketchup whatever, constantly renewing the name of profile lol, and the kenan loves garlic, taking over esctoday LOL

@Kenan

Thats alright :) It is your profile so you can set it up anyway you wish :) if Ozi never refered to you as Kenan I wouldn't have recognized you :P

I think Israel will not withdraw and so they should NOT! However, If other countries wish to join then they need to learn how to distinguish between a song contest and a politcal playground as we have enough politics in the contest as it is, on both a small as well as large scale.

I hope countries will enter for a long time and not do a year one deal then withdraw. And I also hope they won't be divas about it and only enter under special circumstances.

People here make me laugh. Do u think that if Israel will withdraw and Arab countries will join, the contest will be better? It's a shame for you to think that way, the fact they don't accept a country will make many problems, and if Lebanon will host ESC2012 and Israel will join, so? No Esc in Lebanon in 2012?. And if some of them will fight with another European country...so they won't show this country's entry. The shame here that it's their own fault and instead making them understand what's wrong with them, you give them to think its OK and come on Israel withdraw you can enter, very childish from both of you!
