@Night Editor
interesting, where is the church organ used in the song?
For me personally, one of Britain's best ever entries....
frances is a lovely woman, shewas a judge at the theatremad charity west end eurovision in 2008 and was so nice to talk to, her mother is also famous she is sylvia young who runs a world famous stage shool
The Song For Europe version of Lonely Symphony was far and away better than the Dublin version, which was over-bassed and spoiled by those backing singers. Unfortunately, due to ESC rules, using the original ASFE version would've been a non-starter as a church organ would've had to have been on stage due to the musical instruments rule. That said, we would kill for a song like Lonely Symphony, whichever version, to represent the UK these days!
@simon
i actually prefer the version she sang in dublin
UK 94 was pure class and a very underrated song IMO. She looked fantastic on the night but disliked the version sung, they should have stuck with the original SFE version which sounded a million times better, but again she deserved a much higher placing then 10th.
Frances Ruffelle was amazing in 1994! She had a really beautiful song, wich she DESTROYED live, unfortunately!!!
Altough this, she's still one of my faves that year
Good luck, Frances!
I really liked this song, my favourite in 1994
Love this song..one of the best we sent ever i think
pity she didn't do better - though her vocals were not the best live.
i was shocked to learn the other week that her mum is Silvia Young (who founded the school of the same name) and her daughter is Eliza Doolittle
Oh do give it a rest Nenad A!
1994 was an amazing year but I wasn't too fond of her song.
I saw her do a couple of songs from the show at the Nicholas Parsons' Happy Hour - she looked good, sang amazingly and it looks like it'll be a great show. The Ghillie Dhu venue where she is playing is beautiful!
Indeed, 1994 was a very good year. It's very hard to rank the songs from that year. I love Edimburgh and its Summer Festival. I hope all goes well with Rufelle's performance.
P.S.: Luis has displayed his diplomatic streak.
I'm going to see this tonight - looking forward to it! It has had good reviews.
Lonely Symphony was a great song which fell flat on ESC night, IMO, due to too much fiddling about with the song. In my eyes the best version was the preview version (which Luis USA has linked to).
I'm not expecting to hear the song in any of its forms tonight though!
Last year the UK was top 5. :-)
Well, it wouldn't be to bad for the UK if they achived that now in this day and age!
Her song was one of those songs which start off with a good beat but when the singer starts singing the entire song begins to perish!
But Good Luck to her
btw we don't hear much of her here in the UK!
Yes, Mac, she barely made it to the top 10. :/
Maybe she could persuade her daughter to sing for th Uk next year, that would be good!
I'm going to Edinburgh on Monday, I might go and see this, I've heard it's a bit kinky tho!
She had a great song in the 1990s, but perhaps wasn't seen as a success back then (when the UK often came 2nd)
I was born in the US, like most Latinos here.
w s,
I really liked those flowers in her hair
Yes, w s.
I also saw one of the preview ones

I liked how she interacted with the camera and walked about.
This is the music video with her Union Jack undies showing at the end.

@ Luis,
Where are you from originally. You looks Latino. Btw, Puerto Rico is my favorite Latin American country.
I know some people like the national final more, but I prefer the Dublin one. A great song, but since that year was so strong (the best imo) I think her ranking was not too bad.
This is the national final performance:

And I think she looked great in Dublin, like a fairy.
Oh yes Mr. Psychic, knows the reasons why.
It's her voice, the instrumentation that I like. So psssh.
And this is my favorite UK entry:
