Former contestants apply in Ukraine
Verka Serduchka represented Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 finishing second with the song Dancing lasha tumbai. The song went on to become a hit in Europe reaching the top ten of the single charts in France, Finland and Sweden. Anastaiya Prkhodko took part in the Ukrainian national selection in 2009 but did not make it past the semi final. She then entered the Russian national final winning with her song Mamo, performed in Russian and Ukrainian. She finished 11th in the final in Moscow.
On 21st August, 30 acts will be chosen to move forward to the next round. Both experienced artists and newcomers are allowed to take part in the selection. During the castings, the contestants may perform any songs and the potential Eurovision Song Contest entries for the national final will be chosen in October.
In early September, a special TV programme will air showing how the 30 acts were chosen. In October, the chosen artists will perform their final songs and the top 20 for the national final will be determined. In the national final, the winner will be chosen by a mixture of jury voting and televoting. The show will be hosted by Tatiana Goncharova and Timur Mirushnishenko.
In 2010, Ukraine was represented by Alyosha, who finished seventh in the second semi final and tenth in the final with her song Sweet people.

Would be hectic even for Germany!
I DO love Verka -
But if THIS what matters foe Eurovision -
Then I/m mOTHER THERESA
Goood mornin' from Australia
This have to be the best rumours this "off-season"!
Loved "Mamo" with it's dark, beautiful and mystic theme. Anastasia were really good IMO. Would not mind to see her singing another folksy/rockish/ballad again
Verka was awesome in 2007
That's the only drag act in the ESC-alltime I really like. Let's big dance, haha...
But how is
he going to top this? That would be hard to do with the freak-show we saw in 2007
Anyway, welcome back Anastasia & Verka!
It's so dissapointing that this drug queen who only makes fun of esc to get that much support even from contest fans
the absolute disgrace of esc...really thank god it didn't came back in 2009 for instance..! I can't imagine Sir andrew lloyd webber or Patricia Kaas accepting to be on the same stage with that trash
! (they had to tolerate being on the same stage with svetlana loboda but that would be unbearable..!)..
Hope that juries will give it what it deserves if it eventually represents ukraine..a non - qualification !
Verka is AWESOME but I doubt her next entry will be as amazing as 'Lasha Tumbai'. Still would be good to see a funny entry, not a dull ballad contest like this year. ESC needs a funny act or two.
Not too fond of Anastasia really but I ADORE her song 'Bezotvetno'. Hope her next entry will be like that.

i do agree Russia 2010 was rubbish -
but the UK's - was just pure S H I T
@ just me and my guitar you say "which of course got what it got due to neighbouring vote" verka got 12s from protugal, poland, czech republic, she got 10 from isreal.8s from uk and ireland, and 7s from spain and greece, so hardly neighbourly voting, she got points because it was a fun song not because she is from ukraine
I still don´t know if verka is a he, a her or a it...anyway...i dont like him/her/i
@ Owen
verka is more a what than a her . lol

oikotimes says that Verka is going to have a wildcard for the final.... JOY .
Have to be honest, i'm not relishing Verka taking part again, I bloody hated her! Brash, stupid, unsublte and NOT (I repeat NOT) funny!
I would like to see either Verka or Anastasia next year! Both of them will get extremely good results!
Mamo was good but,
Verka is better!!!!
Verkaaaaaaaaaaa 2011!!!!!
He is crayze, funny and a singer!!!
Lashatumba!!!!
@ rost
well thats an improvement i guess but the expert juries should have been able to spot rubbish when they saw it even if the televoters couldnt
@ Michael UK [23926]
Nalich did so well because of THIS
amateyr performed soned placed in utube 0 sbacame super hit in ex-ussr
their ESC entry was horrendous - but ex-soviets had this song in mind
http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=AOzkN8dHnjk
interesting that russia did so well this year with a truly terrible song , but then almost all its votes came from former soviet states.
Ukraine - is VERKA!

Verka Verka Verka
♥
Of course, it's up to everyone's taste, but "Mamo" was in my opinion just an over-dramatized, hysterical and far too exaggerated yelling - even Anna Vissi made a less obtrusive appearance than Anastasia Prikhodko...
I remember a Russian journalist asking Flor-de-Lis' front singer during the press conference after the semi final, if it really was necessary that she had to cry after her performance...
Compared with the Russian entry in that year, this question was even more out-of-place...
I'm also not very fond of Verka Serduchka. Alf Poier was cabaret, in my opinion, Verka just hubbub...
Wow...
I'm kinda surprised that people here have such strong feelings about either entry. I can't say that I was particularly fond of either of their past efforts, so maybe it would be nice if the Ukraine send someone new in 2011. I was really impressed by Alyosha this year - although I'm not a fan of rock entries, I really did like that one.
'Mamo' on the other hand, I remember very well, because I had the volume turned up loud and we all had to cover our ears when she came on! Not a great performance and a very underwhelming song, in my opinion. But hey, I guess she was nervous, and she may enter something better this time round.
Verka or Anastacia, i don't mind.
Verka will win the NF unless there's some great song against him.
Sadly juries are back so Verka can't possibly win (he would have been 4th with 50/50 and probably 7th in full jury voting back in 2007, which is quite where up-tempo songs from eastern countries are in jury voting).
About Anastacia, Mamo was robbed a top 10 by juries... but since it would have been robbed from top 10 if the song wasn't representing Russia, i guess it was just too clever for ESC.
