Belgian selection for 2011 starts on 1st October
On 1st October, RTBF and Akamusic will launch a website, where music artists can upload their songs. All entries have to be written in English or French by Belgian songwriters. Until 31st December, page visitors can give financial support in order to make the professional production of their respective favourite song possible. All songs that gahered at least 20,000 € will qualify for the second stage of the national selection, where the eventual winner will be chosen by a jury and members of the public. All people who donated money to songs other than the winning one will be reimbursed.
The last successful entry submitted by the RTBF was Sanomi by Urban Trad in 2003, finishing second. In 2005, 2007 and 2009 their entries were eliminated in the semi finals. Last year, Tom Dice was chosen internally by Flemish broadcaster VRT and he won the first semi final and finished sixth in the final with Me and my guitar.

Money?
And why so soon? Another country to start too early...
@ Rune
What do you mean by "doing so much"?
I really don't understand why they do so much...
Well, my hope should then be Stromae
I simply love "Alors on Danse"
But may he flop?
We all saw Kate Ryan, having several hits in Europe like "Désenchantée" and "Libertine" flop in 2006. Whatever, I really think that a participation from him is hardly possible.
I LOVE BELGIUM.
KISSES FROM ISRAEL.
@ Shevek
Honestly, I do hope you will be proven wrong..it's time for wallonia to show what they can do after a lot of years...after sanomi they just gave up..they don't care and I wonder why
(to the admins : Are you going to ban the trolll after all ? how many more topics do have to be ruined by it's provokative comments to do something really ? plz do something finally...now it's even hoping that there is any chance the juries to be abolished..
stop the propaganda up there as 90 % of the last week's topics have been ruined..we had enough..)
It's all right Shevek, I just wanted to tell you that why you care about results? You liked Estonia 2010 and it wasn't succesful in ESC at all...maybe you will like Belgian entry next year chosen with that method you don't like even if it won't be succesful!
Mario, Marko and Guitar,
I know, I am just telling you about a feeling and there is nothing rational about it. I fully expect to be proven wrong.
All entries have to be written in English or French by Belgian songwriters.
how poor is this? to exclude two national languages while allowing english...
well, I think they guess the "jury" will stay for 2011.
You'll see, it's gonna be a rock song. The new director of RTBF told it is her favorite kind of music.....
@ Shevek
I did not expect from you to say something like that by the time the process has not even started...it's biased at least..
Shevek
And what do you suggest? Tom Dice again, internal selection. Like Germany did with Lena Meyer Landrut, and all other countries which were quite succesful to resend participant from the last year!
Please Shevek wait and see, it can be OK preselection, Portugal had online voting and festival was quite good, if Spain has negative experience that doesn't mean it will be like that! In the end you even loved Spanish song which was chosen with that method! It will for sure be better than pure internal selection...imagine if all countries will do that how will preselection be boring, it will be like it is at the moment, no news at all...
@ Shevek
We couldn't know it at this point. Last year, me and others here, had the same bad feeling about "Unser star für Oslo", and it was a success at the end.
Why do I have this nagging feeling that Belgium's selection process will not be a success? Anyway, bonne chance.
I've also got a feeling and I've read it too, that only VRT actually cares for ESC, and that RTBF are doing their best to send a song that secure them from not arrange this contest. If that's true, it's quite funny that RTBF has given Belgium all their top-5 places.
@ Kevin
A rather sad truth..wallonia ends up sending usually worse entries (especially this decade..) while the flemish try more..only this year they efforts paid back (and rightfully of course..)
it always seems like wallonia doesn't care and ends up with better placings, whilst flanders tries really hard but fails
In my opinion, the only good quality Belgian song from the last decade is "Sanomi". Urban Trad is a genuine folk band, and not an X-factor product or a disco-lab experiment like others.
Review:
2002 - Sergio & the ladies: awful to death
2003 - Urban Trad: good, genuine
2004 - Xandee: overrated trash-pop, deserved what it happened
2005 - Nuno Resende: boring ballad
2006 - Kate Ryan: OK song, but it's more the name than the song
2007 - KMGs: vomitive
2008 - Ishtar: more than vomitive
2009 - Copycat: no comment
2010 - Tom Dice: OK song, securing votes from piss-pants teenage girls
don't know anything about the years you named
i still remember begiums 2003 entry , and i.m.h.o. , that entry was just average t.b.h. !! the only time i listened to that song was in 2003 when i watched the show live !!
@Mario Mir
i didn't knew it cz i follow esc since 2001 , and since then the songs from the flemish part were much better , don't know anything about the years you named !!
@ Kevin
Your memory is too short. Wallonian RTBF has got the only Belgian victory (1986) and the two second spots (1978 and 2003), while the best position for Flemish VRT has been the 6th position of Tom Dice this year.
Excepting this year and maybe 2006, the rest of Flemish entries are simply vomitive. Maybe 1983 too, it was original.
@Marcus
ty !!!
but i think just the flemish part should send songs to eurovision !! the wallonian part has send just cacks, whereas the flemish part amazing ones ( 2010, 2008 and not to forget the one and only kate in 2006 ) !
ohhh..so money is the issue again in RTBF...Hope they will be able to stand up to last year's top 10 success and stop experiments like copycat or the KMG's..wake up wallonia !
@ Kevin
Yes, it's been that way since 1956/57
Norwegian bloke
Me too!
But as you can see even if they return songs in imaginary language are not allowed, only French and English....and Urban Trad with English or French language is not Urban trad!
*Having a dream about an Urban Trad return*
In 2011, it will be the Walloon broadcaster's turn to select the Belgian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.
do they replace? one year the Wallonian part and one year after the Flemish part?
