Internet qualification

Swiss national final on 11th December

The Swiss national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 will take place on 11th December after an internet qualification round in November. According to the broadcaster, the selection format was changed because "the Eurovision Song Contest has gained popularity in Switzerland due to the victory of two Western countries (Norway/Germany)."

From 1st October onwards, artists can submit their entries. All songs that meet the rules will be uploaded on sf.tv and in early November, internet voters and a jury will choose seven qualifiers for the national final. They will be joined by three radio wildcards. On Saturday, 11th December, the ten finalists will present their songs in the national final which will be broadcast live from Kreuzlingen. The winner will be chosen by televoting.

The last time that the Swiss entrant was chosen in a national final was 2004, when Piero Esteriore would go on to finish last with nul points in the semi final. Last year, Michael von der Heide finished last in the second semi final with Il pleut de l'or.

The swiss final will take place surely in the DREISPITZ Sport- & Kulturzentrum in Kreuzlingen with ca. 600 - 1000 spectators...
Its only a suggestion ;-)

Considering that there's no restriction about nationality of the singer/composer, I'm sure that some claimed "eurostars" that are always trying to do ESC unsuccessfully in their respective countries could appear in this preselection.
I'm absolutely sure that some Spanish ones will try.

swiss audience has proven itself as incapabale of selecting a good song-but on the other hand choosing a last place- they're the best!

switzerland stinks in eurovision every year , its the last country i want to see in this competition !!! and now they will organize a nf , as if it will help them to find a prudent singer with a good song !

how many people watched the Eurovision final this year in Switzerland?

I agree that Switzerland have sent good songs since 2005 and, with the exception of 2005, the live performance stunk. Thanks to 2005, Vanilla Ninja became my favourite band ever. In 2008, I even travelled across the world to Estonia to see them in a concert tour.

If Piero in 2004 is any indication, maybe putting the selection in the hands of the Swiss public is not a good idea. I hope they have become more discerning.

YEY! I am so happy they are having a normal final! Too bad it goes through internet voting first though because my favourites hardly ever qualify in that way. :S But I am glad they have a final and hopefully they'll do better this time. Still, December is too early...

Paschalis
I started to like that entry a lot only when i saw performance!
I don't like rock but that was so soft for rock and nice! I like lyrics too!

Switzerland 05 was really good both as song and as performance and should have done even better. It's even my mother's favorite from 2005 lol, she still tells me to play it!

I think Paschalis is right, 2005 Switzerland tells us that!

Shevek
LOL maybe it's dangerous really coz we are talking about Switzerland, Austrai in 2005 chose yodeling and now Slovenian televoters chose smth similar and it win by landslide, if it will be some similar song in thsi NF it will win with televoters! and that will be disaster for ESC like both Slovenian and Austrian songs were, and for me they were HORROR!! :D But also Slovenia gave Austria in 2005 10 points in semi!! :S :D they simply like that stuff.. :D

Switzerland has sent good songs in 07, 08, 09 and 10 but they were all really ruined by their live performances. No block voting to blame here, if they had better performances they would have no problem making it.

wow, big final in Kreuzlingen :)))

My former hometown and one of the most boring cities in Switzerland ... hope the show and candidates will be more exciting.

Good luck, Switzerland! :)

P.S.: I am not sure if going for a 100% televoting is wise. Remember what happened in the Slovenian NF 10? The winner was an interesting song vey well performed, but there were better songs that were ignored by the televoters and that would have gone down better with both the jurors and the European televoters, imo.

@ sanka

exactly it's very easy..when someone gives you so kind heartly the right to blame them for everything..and someone had to give a point to that song..and I would not call a 2p a success but anyway..you are free to deny facts but I will recognize them and state the obvious..sorry if you dislike it..

me and my guitar. The 2 points that Switzerland got were from ex soviet country lol + if the song deserved lots of points why didnt it get any from Denmark , Uk and Norway ? its so easy to blame everything on ex soviet countries, even if you havent got anything to back it up...

Switzerland keeps a high quality level on their entries but..they are unlucky most of the times..this year michael got in all the ex soviet - caucasian blog and did not survive..hoping the juries will help a good entry (which I hope it will be !) from switzerland next year to qualify :D ! they deserve it all along ..!

@ Dino Mil
A membership in EU is not mandatory in order to be considered as a Western country. For instants, Australia and Japan are also considered as Western countries, despite their location.

Another ironic thing is also that the two richest countries in Europe are both not in EU :D You see, for us non-EU members, it's not a privilege to be connected with EU nowadays.

interesting. again a real unpolitical, only music-oriented broadcaster. wouldn't be surprised if they support "eurovision-juries" due to the fairness and musical values they bring. ;-)
