United Kingdom 2002 - Come back
Jessica Garlick records debut album
Jessica Garlick, the 2002 British Eurovision Song Contest representative will release her first full album at the end of the year. On top of that all the 23 years-old girl from Wales sees it big and wants to conquer America.
Discovered during the first edition of British Pop Idol, Jessica Garlick went on to become the United Kingdom’s representative at the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest. With the ballad Come back she came joint third with home nation Estonia, the United Kingdom's best result since 1998. However Jessica never reached the level of success Will Young did, the winner of Pop Idol that year. Jessica reached the top ten but failed to get as far as the top three on the show judged by a panel including the infamous Simon Cowell. Since the contest Jessica has not been around on the British music scene but did appear in a BBC THREE Eurovision after show party in 2003 to discuss the entries, her experiances at Eurovision and Turkey's winning song.
Now more than two years since performing at the Eurovision Song Contest, Swansea-born Jessica Garlick finally is making plans for her debut album which should be released at the end of this year. Ambitious as she is, Garlick wants the album with country rock influences to make her name in America. It's quite important for me to break America, she says. I would love to live there one day - it's an absolute dream land.
About the long time it took to finally record a full album, Jessica said the following: It has taken longer than I'd hoped but it doesn't matter as long as I get it right and have an album I'm proud of. I've now established who I am and don't think I was ready before. I wouldn't have wanted to put together an album with wrong material which would have failed.
However Jessica Garlick has more plans! She set her heart on appearing in a West End musical and is currently considering a number of offers she has received.
