It's "Love" for Kiev
Donna & Joseph McCaul for Ireland!
The brother and sister act of Donna & Joseph McCaul have won the final of Ireland's "You're a Star" series with the song Love. They won the nation's televote this evening ahead of the all girl group Jade.
Having topped the poll on Saturday evening's programme, the McCauls went into tonight's final as the favourites to win. They had received very positive comments from judge Hazel Kaneswaran, who had said she would "collapse in a state of shock if it does not win!".
The duo won through from the Waterford auditions, where they had sung Amazing Grace. Donna, who is 20, had auditioned last year for "You're A Star" in Longford, sings in a band with Doc Carroll and also sings on her own. The brother and sister act would have auditioned together last year, but Joseph was too young. Donna and Joseph's parents are separated, and their mother raised six children on her own.
Donna's favourite song is From This Moment by Shania Twain and would love to either present a music award to Shania or do a duet with her, as she thinks she is a brilliant artist.
The song Love was composed by Karl Broderick. The McCauls will now go onto represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest semifinal on May 19th in Kiev.
