Former participants to appear in Belgian final
On Sunday, Belgium will be selecting its representative for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. While Nuno Resende and Tiffany Ciely will be competing for the ticket to Kiev, former Belgian participants will make appearances to talk about the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Jean-Louis Lahaye and Jean-Pierre Hautier, the hosts of the Belgian national final organised by the French speaking community's broadcaster RTBF, will be welcoming several guests who have participated in the Eurovision Song Contest before. The former Belgian representatives Fud Leclerc, Robert Cogoi, Jean Vallée, Sandra Kim and Mélanie Cohl will be making their appearance.
Fud Leclerc, 80 years old nowadays, was the first Belgian representative in 1956 and holds the record for representing Belgium no less than four times. Belgium's French speaking community also delegated him in 1958, 1960 and 1962. Robert Cogoi finished 10th with the song Près de ma rivière in 1964.
Jean Vallée represented Belgium twice. In 1970 he finished 8th with Viens l'oublier. He was more successful eight years later when he gave Belgians a second place with the song L'amour ça fait chanter la vie. The one and only Belgian Eurovision Song Contest victory followed in 1986 when 13 year-old Sandra Kim won the contest with J’aime la vie. The fifth guest to make her appearance in Sunday's national final is Mélanie Cohl, who finished 6th in 1998 with the song Dis oui.
The Belgian national final takes place on Sunday 20th March at 20:45 CET and will be broadcast live on La Une, RTBF Sat and radio channel Vivacité. The televoting audience will decide whether Nuno Resende with the song Le grand soir or Tiffany Ciely with Lost paradise will represent Belgium in Kiev.
