After a long absence

New album for Seid Memic Vajta (1981)

After a long absence from the ex-Yugoslav music scene, Seid Memic Vajta, who represented Yugoslavia in the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Leila, is currently recording a new album.
The 55-year-old singer began his career with the group Vezira, but his main successes were with the popular band Teška Industrija in the 1970's, in 1976 he formed the band Zmaj od Bosne. He enjoyed a successful solo career in the 1980's, however for the last fifteen years has been absent from the scene. The revival of his career began early this year, when he appeared on the HRT show Studio 10, and a few weeks ago performed as lead singer with a newly-formed Teška Industrija. The group held a comeback concert last summer in Betina, initiated by bass guitarist Ivica Propadalo. Vajta says that his friendship with the band members goes back 30 years, since it was formed, and that the revival has taken so long only due to the fact that the members were physically far from each other - in Croatia, Slovenia, Germany and Hungary. We kindly thank Laura Gudim for her contribution. Laura will soon join our voluntary team of editors!
