This week, we will discuss one decade of the Eurovision Song Contest's history. Or, more particular, the entries from that decade chosen to compete among the last 14 during the 50th anniversary show Congratulations, which will take place this Saturday in Copenhagen, Denmark.

1987 - Ireland - Johnny Logan - Hold me now The 1987 Eurovision Song Contest took place on 9th May at the Palais de Centenaire in Brussels, Belgium. Victor Lazlo hosted the show. Again, Ireland was represented by Johnny Logan, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980 already with What's another year. Logan... he did it again! This time, Logan made a come-back to the contest with the ballad Hold me know. He won and sold about six million copies of the single! It was a great boost for his carreer. A year later he was asked to open the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest with his winning song. 1988 - Switzerland - Céline Dion - Ne partez pas sans moi Thanks to Johnny Logan, the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest took place in Dublin, Ireland. The Simmonscourt Pavilion of the Royal Dublin Society was turned into a modern venue with a futuristic stage. The show was hosted by Pat Kenny and Michelle Roca. Céline Dion, born 30th March, 1968, was contracted by Sony in 1987 and was asked by Swiss television to participate in the Swiss national selection. With Ne partez pas sans moi she won and represented Switzerland at the 1988 contest. In a memorable skirt she won the contest with only one point ahead of Scott Fitzgerald. Her victory didn't bring her the career she hoped for. When she opened the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest with Where does my heart beat now, the song didn't succeed either. When the song appeared on her new album in 1990, it suddenly popped up in the US charts and several European charts. After singing the sound track for Beauty & the Beast, Céline Dion released the successful song Pour que tu m’aimes encore. In 1997, she was asked to sing the sound track of Titanic, one of the most successful movies ever. With My hear will go on, Think twice and Tell him, a duet with Barbara Streisand, she scored hit after hit. Céline Dion is the proud owner of a star on the Walk of Fame and will perform her own show A new day until next year in Ceasar's Palace, Las Vegas.
