Terve Maarja,

thanks for the link! :-) Yeah I remember how nervous she looked back in 2000 :-D But that was the power of the whole performance. She sang quite good, just you hear her nervosity a million miles away in the end of each note :) It was touching how she grew towards the end of the song. What I recall most is the honesty on her face when she had done the job. She didn't get this look that a lot of female singers get after performing. The BITCH look, like Belle Perez. She smiles during the performance but then the curtain drops..and you see what she really is like...Another great example : Birgitta Haukdal. But that's just not the case with Ines, neither with Kate Ryan. She's a really nice girl.

As regards Iseendale, I completely agree with you, Greg Dunn. By the way, Ines could actually hold tune even years ago, it's just that she was SO NERVOUS! That's why her performance was a failure. Hopefully Renars Kaupers from Latvia will be in this year's jury, since I'm 100% convinced that he likes the style of Iseendale and he would at least give this song maximum points. As to Through my window, it's energetic and OK song but I still consider it somewhat HYSTERICAL - just shouting! (I absolutly disliked last year Eurovision contest since almost all songs were nothing but hysterical shouting). And I cannot watch the Swedish singer. She is such a beautiful woman but teh way she dances ... oh no!!

Thom - yep, saw every second of them. I'm not Irish, I'm Australian - but my roots are Scottish. I live in Estonia. Ines + Iseendale = Athens!

Terve Ronald,

no I'm not from Estonia; too bad that nobody seems to be able to capture the video and upload it somewhere.. :(

Hey Gregg Dunn (btw are you Irish cuz I knew an Irish guy named Dan Dunn once :) ) Anyway, OUTSTANDING a.k.a EXQUISIT piece you wrote there; you had my full attention drawn to every single word of your entire analysis, wow, wow. I beg you, please us with more of that in the near future and save our miserable heads from the monstrous Duds that appear to be writing in English here (hehe). I wish, being as unfortunate not to be a native speaker, that my English writing skills had as much wit to them and were so very much "agreeable" as yours!
Respect!

My thoughts after the previews:

01 It was you
There's nothing wrong with this; all the elements are there, but it just doesn't seem to get started. There's a Corrs pop sound happening here, and the performance is good, if a little static. I assume this was the one that got through for having been ordered.

02 Open up your heart
My my, whatever happened to Sofia Rubina's trim figure? Suddenly she reminds me of Claudette Pace doing her statuesque best for Malta with 'Desire'. This is of course a good thing and I'm pleased to say that Ms Rubina has a rich voice and puts in a good showing here on a very upbeat song (count the pitch changes!) that sticks in your head fairly quickly. The immediate favourite of mine, but a couple of things also conspire to whisper in my ear that it wouldn't be the right choice: the fact that you couldn't really do a lot with it on stage and just something about it that says "I'm wonderful, but not a vote winner".

03 Everytime I tell you
I shall only say two things about this song: 1) Sign me up for one of Reverend B's 'services' right now. 2) He should stick to his day job when he comes up with lines like "I've got you in my life / And it rhymes with wife". Bleurgh.

04 Iseendale
Clearly going to win the public vote, for what it's worth; streaks ahead of everything else on offer musically and lyrically. Add to this the fact that it's so tastefully presented, that Ines can suddenly hold a tune perfectly, that it all sounds a bit Coldplay and voila, bound to be one of my ESC2006 favourites whatever the outcome of the jury vote. My partner was doubtful of its chances with an international jury, but I reminded him that it was an international jury that chose Eighties coming back. And given that the musical production here is by most of the members of Ruffus, and that this is the only song in Estonian, it may well be looking good for it. I will support it 100%, no matter if it comes a dismal 38th and very definitely last in Athens.

05 Sweet separation
Vocally the weakest card in the pack but not bad at all and I thought it was a very clever idea. The presentation's quite good too. Cute couple. Smacks of something that's going to fall on its arse come the final though.

06 Through my window
This for me is the one to beat. It's 2 Quick Start all over but you just can't deny its eurotrash perfection really. Sandra and her Swedish cohorts are right on the money vocally and with their minimalist but perfectly effective choreography and I dare say it's better musically and lyrically than anything this lot have come up with for years, including Runaway. If the jury is in the mood for 3 brainless minutes of Scandinavian pop sung by a pretty girl, this is bound to win. And I'd be happy if it did frankly.

07 Higher
A huge improvement on what they did last year. "It's not often we've seen rock in Eurolaul," says Marko Reikop in the lead-in. This is obviously Vanilla Ninja-inspired but I still don't think it's going anywhere.

08 Be 1st
Yes, Ivar Must has been responsible for winning entries in the past, and indeed, brought Estonia the glory of a win in 2001. However, he was also responsible for coming 2nd last on debut in 1994, and for a string of other dubious entries that languished in the nether regions of Eurolaul. I'm hoping this will be another that gets what it deserves: it is appallingly bad in a too-old-to-be-a-cheer-leader, just-old-enough-to-work-on-a-ferry way. My partner and I looked at each other aghast as this drew to its painful conclusion. Marilin Kongo does a great job, it has to be said, but really. "Let's go dancin!" I think not.

09 Friends will be friends
Noorkuu really need an image update. Fluffy and harmless and vocally perfect (if not lyrically - "they will bring you a joy" - only one!? what kinds of friends are they - the cheapskate variety??) and it will probably find favour with the jury, just (hopefully) not enough to get it across the line.

10 Mr Right
Oh how I was disappointed with Pajusaar and friends this year. There seems to be a buzz about this but I have no idea why. At least it's not your usual set of lyrics but when this finished I turned to my partner and said "that was just so wrong". There's one duff note all the way through as well, in the sense that it's right but just sounds awful. I'm scared it will do better than it should but have enough faith to predict a mid-table end for it.

I would personally be happy to see any of Through my window, Iseendale or Open up your heart through to Athens and hope the jury feel the same. In a way I'm sorry it's not televoting this year, cos then Ines would definitely win. Well actually, Noorkuu might scrape through... so perhaps it's better than it's left in the hands and ears of a bunch of people with connections (albeit sometimes tenuous) to past Eurovision glory to see us right this year. Cross your fingers.

I remember when "eighties coming back" was chosen above two other, much better songs, one of them being "We are not done" which would've done so much better @ Riga..Kadi Toom has a very good team with, I really liked the versions they made of all her songs on the album You/Mina. Especially the ones in Estonian, so I hope Ines doens't sing an English version of Iseendale in Athens if she wins. Native languages should be implied again..

the new version of "iseendale" is absolutelly gorgeous!! this little 30 sec clipin in ITV says pretty much nothing about this song, it ends a moment before the best part :D
and i really don't understand what's so special about "through my window" - ordinary song.. and that dancing!
some year, there are so awful songs that there's nothing to pick. this year we have one gorgeous song and if it won't be chosen, it's even worse than this. so i hope that the jury will pick Ines to represent us, it's a beautiful song :) (btw. i don't know if it's true, but i heard that in athens, the song would be in english)

Thanks Thom M for supporting me. I think Mr Right sounds more like a children's song and the singer is so unexperienced and young. I wonder how it made it to our national final!

Yes Maarja you are absolutely right, Mr Right has the worst act I've ever seen. It's so bad it isn't even funny and there is something about those people that makes me think that they actually MEAN what they are doing on stage LOL, makes it even worse. Not going to comment on the song either, neither about her terrible accent LOL

I cannot understand why they seem to prefer Mr Right in Estonia! I think it's the worst song this year. Fortunately, an international jury will decide about the songs. I like Ines the most but I think the Eurovision audience wouldn't. Maybe it would be wise if they picked Sandra... But INES is still the best...

Is there anyone more than me who thinks that the guitars in the beginning of Looking through my window is nicked from ABBA's Does your mother know?

Ines or Sandra for Athens!

I agree,we should respect each others opinions,if benzin thinks estonia does not have a chance to qualify then it's his/her right to say it out
It's obvious that there are lot's of people around who can't find anything for themselves from this selectiona and also many of those who just can't decide who's the best ;)
