"Every song is a cry for love" for Ireland

The Late Late Show's host, Pat Kenny, announced tonight on RTÉ ONE channel Every song is a cry for love as the song that Brian Kennedy will perform in order to represent Ireland at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Greece. The winning song writer is . . . Brian Kennedy himself!
The Late Late Show on Friday, February 17th hosted Eurosong 2006, the show which decided Ireland's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Greece. Throughout the programme, Pat interviewed several former Irish representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest and Linda Martin, who won the 1992 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden, Niamh Kavanagh, who won the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest in Millstreet, Ireland, and Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan, who won the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, Ireland, performed their Eurovision hits. Concerning this year's selection, Brian Kennedy performed three songs to be voted by Irish and Northern Irish viewing public: Song A: The greatest song of all Composer: Jimmy MacCarthy Song B: All over the world Composer: Don Mescall Song C: Every song is a cry for love Composer: Brian Kennedy Meanwhile, the outcome of the voting among the audience present at the Late Late Show studio was as follows: Song A: The greatest song of all- 19% of the votes Song B: All over the world - 34% of the votes Song C:Every song is a cry for love - 47% of the votes In the end, the official national voting decided Song C: Every song is a cry for love as the winning song. Due to its poor result in the 2005 semi final, Ireland will take part at the semi final of the 51st Eurovision Song Contest on 18th May.

PS

I don't really hate the Welsh. Much. It's just fun winding up the Celts. I was wondering why Brian called the song EVERY SONG IS A CRY FOR LOVE. He has clearly never heard TOP OF THE POPS by the Rezillos.

Paul

Leave my hair out of it. My observation that there are lots of Irish in London is no more rascist than your observation that there are Eastern Europeans everywhere. These are facts. I have said I love the Irish. I do. I'm certainly not rascist. I just can't stand the Welsh. And if you think this place is not for discussing nationalities you are as naive as you sound. You want to read some of the rascist drivel on here and have a go at that.

I do like the song! Here does Brian Kennedy what he does best: singing a ballad. Right from the heart. The only thing I do miss a bit is an irish flute in the musical background. That would have made it more authentic.

Molly, love,I think all that bleach has had a nasty effect on you in your persuit of the Abba look. Keep your racist comments to yourself. Both Kensal Rise and Kilburn have their fair share of Eastern Europeans these days ,are you also going to post equally racist comments about them? Think not.
This forum is to comment on songs not nationalities.

Having read through the reactions it seems most people who don't like this song accuse it of being boring. I have to warn you that all 844 previous Irish winners were boring. It has a nasty Latvia 2005 factor about it and it's enough to weaken my bladder at the thought of going to Ireland yet again, sitting there in the rain eating soda bread. Let's hope common sense prevails and Silvia Nott wins the whole contest.

Three very hideous songs indeed. This looked and sounded like an Irish final from 1966. And the amount of times those people on stage said how wonderful Ireland and the Irish people were. I wouldn't mind but they were all Irish themselves. It was enough to make me puke. And then that idiot Louis Walsh said that everyone votes for Ireland because they never invaded anywhere. Well the voters certainly forgot how lovely the Irish were over the last couple of years. Anyway they have invaded Kilburn and Kensal Rise in vast numbers. I love the Irish but sometimes, well really. And was that REALLY Niamh Kavanagh on stage? What happened to the poor old thing's hair? She looked like a bank clerk to me.

Oh no no no!!! This was the worst song out of the three!!! The 2nd song All over the worls was the best. I can't believe this!! I won't be surprised if we dont qualify for the final again this year. I really won't!!! We need a performance, not just a song. Maybe Tabby next year, The Conway sisters the year adter, and maybe sometime reform Six and have them perform. I LOVE YOU RUSLANA!!!

Sorry, but I find this song rather disappointing. After listening to it I'd forgotten exactly how it goes. I've no doubt that Brian's talented but this ballad is another one that will simply be lost and forgotten I think .... a sort of shame considering Ireland's history in Eurovision. Better luck next year guys... ;)

i am totally delighted that this song is our song for greece - i love it and is most certainly a very strong contender to win ladies and gentlemen - think - "stronger every minute" think "i'm not afraid to move on" only this type of music is very much in fashion this time around -

i don't really like brian kennedy and he really needsa style overhaul but he done good with this song and i am - repeat - absolutley delighted - at last a good irish entry

Andreas Kalogerou:
what a FAB comment. Why are there not more people like you here? :)

I think Ireland will do badly. I wish they would start doing better soon, but I can't see who will vote for it...

Sobriety... at last. It needs to be presented with sobriety too and will more than certainly speak to people's heart and ears. I like it very much. I hope Ireland will be back for good. And I'd love this song to be the first ballad to win with televoting.
