¡Mira quién baila!
Rosa in TV dance contest
Rosa López, the Spanish representative at the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest in Tallinn, is one of the favourites to win in the third series of ballroom dancing contest ¡Mira quién baila! (Look who's dancing!) on TVE.
Rosa follows in the footsteps of fellow Spanish entrant David Civera, who took part in the second series of the show last year. David was the eventual winner of that edition, giving Rosa a lot to live up to. She gets off to a flying start; showing off her new, trim figure, she danced her way into the favourites to win after the first show of the season last night. Performing a Cha-cha-cha and Tango, she was the audience's choice as the evening's winner.
The singer is no stranger to talent TV, having won the first series of the Spanish music show Operación Triunfo. This led to her 2002 Eurovision participation with the song Europe's living a celebration, ending up in seventh place at the contest in Tallinn. Operación Triunfo spawned a series of similar TV shows in European countries, including the British Fame Academy. Fitting, then, that the show she now finds herself dancing on is itself a British export, following on from the hugely successful Strictly Come Dancing which airs on BBC1.
Rosa and her fellow participants will continue to perfect the art of ballroom dancing over the next seven shows, before the expert jury and public have a chance to vote one pair of dancers off each week.
