'I'll fucking win'
EBU formally objects to Icelandic lyrics
With reference to our recent exchange of mails and telephone calls, I hereby inform you the firm position of the EBU, not to accept any foul language in the Icelandic song, or any other of the entries to the Eurovision Song Contest.
Should your artists use any foul expression in the song, it would immediately mean a violation of two of the rules for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006:
- Section Five, § 12) where no changes of the lyrics is possible after the official delivery of the song and lyrics at the meeting of the Heads of Delegation in Athens on 20-21 March2006.
- Section Five, § 13) where it says that the lyrics and/or the performance of the songs shall not bring the Contest Final or the Eurovision Song Contest as such into disrepute. A violation of these rules could lead to disqualification from the contest.
I strongly urge you, as the responsible Head of Delegation for your country, to consider these
rules and make sure that your artists will obey them.
Be aware that the EBU and their broadcasting members would consider a violation of the kind we are discussing as serious and strongly offensive.
Yours sincerely,
Svante Stockselius
Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor
Official album
Although the EBU has the formal right to forbid any lyrics that bring or might bring the contest into disrepute, the song including the lyrics "I'll fucking win" is on the official album of this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
Silvia Night herself already replied, saying "I fucking say what I fucking want!". For sure, to be continued!

About time some sense of taste and decency has finally prevailed
It's a shame that stupid old w****r Svante doesn't f**k off back to bloody Sweden, and eat meatballs and herring, and try to get in the real world!
Dear Mr. Svante Stockselius
I was quite surprised and deeply disappointed by your letter to the head of the Icelandic delegation. In your letter, you misinterprete the EBU rules and you are discriminating the Icelandic song against other songs that have competed in previous ESCs or are competing in this year's ESC.
Regarding Section 5, para. 12, many times in the past, the EBU has allowed changes of the lyrics of already submitted songs, usually involving translation of a song into another language. If the EBU imposed a sanction on the Icelandic song on that basis, this would constitute a brutal discrimination of the Icelandic song and a favourable treatment of the songs of other delegations. This would violate the principles of non-discrimination and equality, under the light of which the EBU rules must be interpreted.
Regarding Section 5, para. 13, you arbitrarily interprete this EBU rule without providing any details regarding the scope of the term "disrepute". It is obvious that the lyrics of the Icelandic song as a whole, as well as each and every word in this song individually, do not offend any individual or category of individuals. It is also a fact that the lyrics of this song, as well as each and every word in this song individually, do not offend any religious, political, social or artistic beliefs and ideals. Therefore, neither the lyrics of the Icelandic song nor a single word in this song of more than 200 words, can lead to a "direpute" within the meaning of Section 5, para. 13 of the EBU rules.
For the above reasons, the case of the Icelandic song falls far beyond the scope of the EBU rules that you mention in your letter and your interpretation of the EBU rules can only be seen as arbitrary, unfair and discriminatory. Subsequently, the letter should be recalled and apologies should be submitted to the Icelandic delegation.
Best regards,
Arian Khenefeld
Silvia, you're so fuckiiiiiiiiiing good !!!
to be honest this is just free advertising for iceland
GO AWAY SILVIA..., In my opinion..., Birgitta was the best, come back Birgitta!!! You are a very VERY GOOD SINGER
This man is just crazy, first he cuts down the voting part, next he cuts down the number of automatic qualifiers for the final next year, and finally tries to get Iceland out of the competition.
If she needs to insert the word 'fucking' into the song to get votes, then the song must be complete and utter shite.
Oh i forgot, it is!!!

I really hope I was wrong about BBC, but it's just somehting I read.
However, I don't know if you're in a posistion to judge american broadcaster because HBO for example can air "fuck" as much as they want.
But as I said, I hope I'm wrong about BBC, but here are a few reasons for my misunderstanding:
1. BBC blasted for Madonna's profanity:http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/554440/663862[] url]http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/554440/663862/url]
2. The BBC will not play "Bandages": http://weblog.leidenuniv.nl/let/eng/ma/htit/0506/1/archives/2005/11/27/bbc_censorship.html
and also this, although it's not about BBC, but it happens in the UK:
MPs face foul language censorship: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2668461.stm
the fact that she swears is just ONE reason to dislike this song , its just not good really is it!
its a pastiche of 80s pop done in an overly kitsch way, its just a cheesefest. im sure a lot of people will vot e for it however as they did alf poier , but thats a matter of taste and we all like different things , thats democracy. if she won it would be horrendous for the eurovision though
ha, and certain posters can't believe they got described as conservative.
okey..what is going on?! this is just a word that everyone use every fucking day so whats the problem??! i mean.. every single women that have been in this contest are just with their boobs hanging out of the stage.. and nobody is against that!! :?
there are wars and children are dying and there are animals being torture. and you have worries about some stupid word that even little children say every day!!.. how lame?.. cant you just save lifes ore something ore just life your own life?..
silvia is just like that and you just have to life with that! silvia is just acting people that are like you.. and wannabe's !! and god knows what else.. she is acting!!!! you get that??!
and now PLEASE RASE YOUR HANDS IF YOU DONT WANT SILVIA TO BE FIRED FROM THE COMPETISION!!!!
To Konstantina,
I'm not sure everybody deserves respect, particularly reactionaries with false values - values which camouflage the fact that they don't actually care about or are proactive against issues which matter. Witness Nikolaos and Benzin with their hate messages in several forums - it's hard to respect them! Silvia is a joke - a deliberate joke - but her ploy has a deliberate and serious subtext which reveals those with false values (getting in a twist about this silly word) as the hypocrites they are. She's not making racist remarks (which would be unacceptable). Silvia uses swearwords, but those who make a huge song-and-dance about such words (if you'll pardon the pun!) are indirectly using them to much greater effect, as a smokescreen against their own false values and, consequently, issues which actually matter. The primary school children I teach have heard and know this word - everybody has. It's part of the world we live in, for better or for worse, and the sooner we all get over it the sooner we can concentrate on the important things instead of being (deliberately?) sidetracked.
Ah, I feel better for that!
In the interests that Eurovision should actually be a family show I reckon 'fucking' should be replaced.
It is in no way necessary to the performance of the song.
If it were to be allowed maybe Uk could change its title to 'Teenage Cunts' , Belgium to 'Je t'encule', and Finland to 'Hard Cock Hallelujah'
Someone has to draw the line somewhere and for once I agree with Svante.
To Simon
It's not the word that bothers dear friend but the whole attitude of the artist towards the ESC and to people generally. How can someone involve himself into all those crucial issues if he doesn't know what respect means.
soon it will be an offence to be offended by anything
actually this song is an offence to good music , its so un original and boring and she looks like a cake thats been left out in the rain
It's high time people started feeling offended by facts which are truly offensive (injustice, poverty, abuse, war, famine, intolerance, racism, ignorance, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc) instead of petty four-letter words. If people who are too stupid to know better somehow managed to educate themselves to these facts and used their energies and indignation to combat them instead, this world would be a great place.
I just have to say to Stockelius and people who are offended by these lyrics that YOUR OWN PREJUDISM AND WAY OF THINKING ARE THE KEY INSTRUMENTS IN YOUR OFFENCE.
BE HAPPY AND DONT LET A WORD LIKE THIS OFFEND YOU. EVERYONE DOES FUCK ANYWAY AND KIDS WHO ARE AWAKE UNDERTAND WHAT FUCK IS, AND ALSO IN WHAT CONTEXT IT IS USED HERE.
I WISH THAT STOCKELIUS AND CO WOULD STOP UNDERESTIMATING PEOPLE AND LET ARTISTS HAVE THEIR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AS THE HUMAN RIGHTS CLEARLY STATE.
SILVIA IS NOT HURTING ANYONE.
...Can anybody explain me what's going on.........?
This is one of the most 'daring' Eurosongs this year!!!!!
Funny how a small word like fuck can make such a big kerfuffle,
oh sorry, did I offend anyone by that?
"BBC, are legally not allowed to air foul language, and could get serious fines from their own government if they do."
That's complete rubbish. Do you think the BBC is an American broadcaster?
