Vicky Leandros into politics

Vicky Leandros has become the latest former Eurovision Song Contest performer to jump from music to politics. After Dana of Ireland stood as a candidate for the Irish Presidency and Ruslana getting a seat in the Ukrainian parliament, she becomes the next former Eurovision Song Contest winner to mark History with getting involved into politics: Vicky Leandros (Luxembourg 67, Luxembourg 72, German National Final 2006) is currently a part of the newly elected team in Piraeus' municipality.

Panagiotis Fasoulas, the greek ex basketball star, became the new mayor of Piraeus under the banner of the party "PASOK" after winning the municipal elections some weeks ago over M. Agrapidis, the previous mayor, from the "Nea Demokratia" party . Among his electoral team one person that Eurovision fans will recognize: Vasiliki Von Ruffin, born Vasiliki Papathanasiou, better known as Vicky Leandros.

Some months ago, Vicky was being blamed by some fans for not showing up at the Eurovision Song Contest anniversary show "Congratulations" in October 2005, deeming she was just 'snobbing' events. Yet she proved her wrong when she announced in the beginning of 2006 she would go for another try to the competition, for Germany this time, her 'adoptive' country.

Her ballad "Don't break my heart" didn't manage to capture the German audience enough for her to compete in her birth country, Greece, hosting the Eurovision Song Contest that year. Nevertheless, her two previous attemps, "L'amour est bleu" ("Love is blue" - Luxembourg 1967, 4th) and of course "Après toi" ("After you" - Luxembourg 1972, winner) still remain two of the most delighful Eurovision classics.

regarding vicky, well, i dont know her personally to judge how is gonna be as a politician. however, this thing of all the famous people becoming politicians is very irritating. especially in piraeus, they now have a mayor who is known only for his basketball and I really doubt his ability to run a town, and, furthermore, this mayor has with him vikcy and daphne! I dont like daphne. I ve read her book about eurovision and its all about blamming others. its not fair. its childish. and, to be honest, in what daphne had succeed? At least, fasoulas and vicky have some trophies in their bags...

@Claudio
I love Jeux Sans Frontiers too!!! Her voice is so pure! I love her! I miss Daphne Bokota!

@Zohar
Bitch? Isn't this characterization too harsh for such a lady?? I have met her personally and she was incredibly gentle as a person!

Bitch - snob. Shedidn't show up in Congradulation. She also didnt show up in the 25 years of Eurovision in 1981 in Norway. It was a kind of congradulation where all winners sang the song in full, but no competition. Most winners came. She, Abba and Salome were missing. (BTW - this turned me into a eurovision fan when i saw it in 1981!)

And this year after she lost the German final, she was bitching about it ! The songs are timeless classics, but she is a snob
