A gift of life

Ruslana for the children

On 20th November, 2004 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Ruslana, together with Peter Maffay, the German musician and father of the “Encounters. Alliance For Children” project, presented the Neonatology Unit of OHMADYT Regional Children's Hospital in L'viv with a resuscitator, that will help doctors save lives of new born children with internal defects.

The funds for the purchase of the resuscitator come from Chernobyl 2006 - Children of Spring, the Ukrainian part of the Encounters. Alliance For Children. It aims to help children suffering from the late effects of the Chernobyl disaster and who have little chance of surviving without specialist help.

Ruslana, supported by  the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko has embraced the project which involves artists from all five continents. It aims to use the common language of music to support charity programs all over the world. Fourteen artists from twelve countries get actively involved in their homeland and record an album for the cause together with Peter Maffay. Ruslana has rearranged her previous hit Svitanok and recorded it with Peter, in Ukrainan, for the purpose. The funds gathered by the artists will be granted to hospitals in their respective participating countries  for the purchase of medical equipment.

During the Press Conference, Ruslana addressed the Ukrainian public and asked them to support such initiatives. To read more about the project, click here.

I really admire Ruslana. I once wrote an essay about the children of Chernobyl. They realy have a difficult life, and even though some of you says that she would turn up at the opening of an envelope, she actually does help those children. If she wants to use those kinds of things to puplicity herself, I actually don't care, asslong as it helps. And I really don't think that she only does it becourse of the puplicity.

Ruslana, respect!

Dear ESC Today
I am writing to say that I support Ruslana together with Peter Maffay the German musician and father of the Encounters Alliance For Children Project in their joint social issue engagement of presenting a resuscitator to the Neonatology of OHMADYT Regional Children’s Hospital in L’viv Ukraine that came from the funds of Chernobyl 2006 Children of Spring. In addition to that I admire Ruslanas Support for Viktor Yushchenko.

Due to the fact that Ruslana supports those social issues proves that Ruslana is not only a talented woman and Patriot of the Ukraine it also shows that she is a caring lady who is beautiful inside in her soul as well as on the outside in her physical presence. Ruslana is not however using this event as a publicity stunt to attend the engagement at the opening of an envelope. From that I do disagree with the other comments from the two previous respondents as I think that they take a cynical rather than optimistic view of Ruslana.

Overall I give my undivided admiration and respect to Ruslana for her commitment towards the social issues in her home country and around the world.

Yours Sincerely

That woman would turn up for the opening of an envelope.
