Televised song selection next month
Teapacks to represent Israel [UPD]
IBA's Eurovision committee made quite a surprising choice today, when it selected the band Teapacks to represent Israel in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki. The band originates from the sounthern periphery of Israel. It gained popularity by bringing forward the traditional oriental music combined with light humorous hints. The soloist of the band, Kobi Oz, is well known in the country for his eccentric looks and style.
Yoav Ginai, IBA's head of delegation to the Eurovision Song Contest and the one headed the committee said to Ynet.co.il: 'Teapacks has gained quite a long artistic exprience. Kobi Oz is one of the most talented and original writers in Israel. Thats why I believe they will be able to present a unique and suitable performance. I will meet with the band in the coming days and together we will work out the schedule. The final entry will be chosen by the committee and the IBA's viewers, probably in mid February, from 4 optional songs'.
If for any reason Teapacks will refuse accepting IBA's invitation, the runner up will be either Liel Collet (who was part of Six4One, the Swiss entrants in 2006) or Michelle Goriashvilli (a participant of the latest season of the local Star Academy).
IBA's Eurovision committee included composer Kobi Oshrat (Israel 1979, 1985), Yardena Arazi (ESC hostess of 1979 and entrant in 1976 and 1988) and Dafna Dekel (ESC hostess of 1999 and entrant in 1992). According to Ynet.co.il, the mission of representing Israel was offered to Har'el Ska'at, but he declined. Israel will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest's semifinal, on May 10th.

i don't like this band . but maybe they will surprise me like :
austria 2003

moldova 2005
or Lithuania last year.
The Music Trophy!
The most interesting prize to an online song contest goes to The Music Trophy that offers a different kind of music contest. Even though it´s similar to many of the other contests this contest has something special! Fight for the Music Trophy 2007!

Brian Torbin:
I really hope so, but the reference group could have also chose more suitable artist, like Harel Moyal, or Henree ft. Nikka, and I know I am repeating myself all over again..... But, its difficult to say. I think that if Tipex comes up with a song as good as yoshvim babait kafe, or a little better,we could find ourselves in the grand final again!
Israel!!!!!!!!!!!
I just read that Tipex was founded in the little town of Sderot which is now being hit daily by Qassam missiles from Gaza. I really don't want to start a political discussion here, but maybe Tipex could come up with a fun love song for this little town. It may not mean anything to Europeans, but at least it will give some comfort to the poor residents of Sderot - and that may be more important than winning the contest.
I still think that if Israel wanted to send a group to Eurovision, it should have been the Gameboys and not Tipex, but maybe they will surprise all of us with something cool - kind of how "Abanibi" was a bit of a surprise. I actually trust the group that made the decision (Oshrat, Ginay, Arazi and Dekel) - they are real ESC insiders and know what is going on there now.
I also read messages on Harel Skaat's official fan message board and it seems all his fans are breathing a sigh of relief that Harel declined to go to Helsinki - and they are all supporting him in his decision. Perhaps they all feel it was too dangerous for a guy whose career has been growing very nicely without the ESC. I also heard that Skaat is planning to star in a new stage revival of the Israeli musical "Kazablan", and so there would have been very little time for him to prepare for the ESC this year anyhow. No matter what, I still think he could really impress everyone at the ESC one day. Maybe "Bashana Haba'a" - next year!
Haim, i don't want to judge them now. wait to see the songs, everything can happen and maybe they'll write songs that the people out of Israel can love!
a really good song of them:

Good luck Israel!!!
Good luck, Israel!
I think this song is quite nice. the band seems to be interesting. I like songs like this. I wish Israel all the best!
P.S. Pomocy! Gdzie mozna posluchac piosenki "Emily" zespolu Charizma z polskich preselekcji?
I like it, Israel!
Really detest this stuff - horrible!
good luck israel but i prefer ethnix or daniel zilberstein
It is a shocking choide indeed from Israel. I was specting somethin like Har'el Ska'at, Har'el Moyal, Henree ft Nikka, Offer NIssim, don't know, something to dance to with oriental touches ( like Emtza HaLaila BaKfar- Kol HaTziporim- Bgidah- Al HaMasaj Sheli- See me now). However if they manage to come up with a song like Yoshvim BeBeit Kafe, then I think we could see Israel in the final! hopefully!
Beatzlajah Israel!!!!!!
Haim Dov,
I really don't think it's the place nor the time for political debate, but I can assure you that Israeli muslims hate you just as much as the rest of our neighbours. same goes for the hebrews.
Sorry to differ, but personally did not see what was the big deal about Shiri. Her song was just okay and she looks stiff on stage. Israel has send much better songs then Shiri's song that did not do well. Imo, Tal Sondak was superb, even the Light A Candle singer was a better performer. I usually like the Israeli entries, and hope Teapacks send a better song then the one shown in the youtube link, which I find mediocre.
Teapacks?
Lol! Well, good luck....
There are 7 people in the picture.
Only 6 people are allowed on stage in the contest.
Who will be booted?
this is a shocking choice, but a very good one. original, mostly.
this song, which is amazing and so funny (it's about how a very manipulative agent finds an innocent weitress, makes her star and how she repays him by leaving him at stardom). but this is nothing compared to Kobi Oz's energy on stage.
this is a band that will do, as we say in hebrew (or how pingpong sang it), SAMEYACH! (good time!) on stage this year.
GOOD LUCK!
Haim Dov:
Well, I live in Israel and I heard what Anastacia said, but let's not over- react... it's not that big of a deal and it is sure as hell not an earthquake!!!! LOL!!!!
And about that thing you mentioned about 99% of Israelies being open- minded... well yes, most of us are, but let's not pretend... we hate the arabs and the arabs hate us.
Yes, it sounds bad, but that's the way it is.
99% of Israelies hate arabs... we do have our reasons for hating them, but let's not pretend like there's no racism in Israel.
I think it's true to say that reality made us racists... today we hate the arabs just because they are arabs, but this hatred has originated from the 60 years conflict the 2 nations share.
Besides, it is known that the russian population in Israel (20%) hates the arabs the most, so Anastacia actually said what the public she represented wanted her to say....
Israel is one of my favourite countries in the ESC and, in general, I like IBA's decisions: combination of traditional style and other years more risky entries. I wish Israel the best this year.
I think Israel are making a big mistake entering these guys... Why don't they stick to what worked in 2005 with Shiri? of course, it will depend on the song, but I doubt Europe will take to this.
Hi everyone!!!
I hope Israel will get into the final... :-)
P.S. Jeśli jest ktoś z Polski to mam pytanko, gdzie moge posłuchac piosenki "Emily" zespołu Charizma z naszych preselekcji?
I'm such a big fan of Israeli music...they have excellent artists and songs..(my favourite song of all the times is ''Biladaich'' by Lior Narkis&Shlomi Shabat...)This year I was expecting someoneelse to represent Israel but it is ok...I'm happy with the Israeli decision
Good Luck from Turkey
ToMagnus, I don't think she was sure for 100% when she said that. She's "quite" successfull and she doesn't need an ESC again. Although this would be good for Israel, but still! We have many acts to offer Europe. It reminds me of a user who once said here that Sweden can win by sending a group which consists: Carola, Lena, Kikki, Linda and Shirley. How stupid can this get?
Miri Mesika with "Miflas Matzav HaRuach" would do so good in there!!
Gil.
Gil,
Shiri actually mentioned a year ago that she might come back to ESC, but not before 2008.
I guess it depends on her international career... if it goes well, I guess there's no chance to see her doing ESC again in the near future... but if it doesn't, I guess there's a good chance we'll see her again before 2008!
People, I gotta tell you something.
Shiri was famous before 2005 in Israel. The Eurovision made her more famous in Israel and the world itself. She's now recording tracks for her second album. THERE'S NO CHANCE SHE'LL BE BACK TO THE EUROVISION SOON. AND IF THERE IS A CHANCE, SHE'LL REFUESE.
Stop thinking we have only Shiri/The DiamondZ/Maya Buskila/WHATEVER here! We have even better singers. 8-)
God.
Gil
