Includes 2002 Eurovision entrant
Romania: More about the participants
Seasoned Eurovision fans will recognise many names amongst these 24, most obviously Marcel Pavel, who along with Monica Anghel represented Romania in Tallinn in 2002 with the song Tell me why, which gave Romania their first ever Top 10 placing at the contest when it finished 9th.
Indiggo created a big fuss after their song Be my boyfriend only finished 7th in the 2006 Romanian national final. Their song this year is written by Thomas G:son, who wrote amongst other songs, Carola's Invincible, which finished 5th for Sweden in Athens. Romania will be his 4th national final this season, a new first in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest!
Ionuţ Ungureanu's song is written by Eduard Cârcotă, who wrote Tornerò for Mihai Trăistariu in 2006, which finished 4th in Athens, giving Romania their second best result to date.
Jasmine finished 8th in the 2006 Romanian national final with Sunshine.
Desperado & Tony Poptămaş came 4th in the 2006 Romanian national final with The universe.
Rednex came 6th in the 2006 Swedish Melodifestivalen with the song Mama, take me home.
Nico came 2nd in the 2006 Romanian national final along with Akcent with Jokero, as well as 3rd in 2005 along with Mihai Trăistariu, 9th in 2004 and 9th in 2003 (under her full name Nicoleta Matei).
Mandinga came 4th in the 2006 Romanian national final with Soarelel meu.
Andra came 2nd in the 2004 Romanian national final with Just a little love.
Moni-K was eliminated in the 2004 Romanian semi finals when she sang with Provincialii on the song Promise me.
Andreea Bălan and Morandi are both big stars within Romania, and so should be considered favourites for the final.
The Romanian semi finals will be held on the 27th January and the 3rd March, with the final being held on the 10th March in Bucharest, the Romanian capital. Whoever represents Romania will get to start in the final thanks to Mihai's 4th place in Athens.

I agree, I have nothing against Sweden, but I hate schlager (with the exception of "It hurts" which was great). The songs from 2001 and 2003 were too tacky for words, horrible. And it is ok when Sweden sends this type of songs, but there is absolutely no reason for other countries to send also schlager.
If Sweden had sent "Temple of love" last year (which was by far the best song) it would have gained my respect. Since Sweden opted for Carola with an inexplicable song just because she was more famous than BWO they made me lose all my respect I had for them.
Khalid, you are 100% right.
The only swedish entry I liked in the 00's was "It hurts" in 2004. All the other entries were exactly the same song with different lyrics. I am not mean about Sweden, but I hate schlager, is that too bad?
Schlager music reminds me of some tv commercials about super markets from the early 90s.
As for Romania, "Tell me why", "Don't break my heart", "I admit", "Let me try" and especially "Tornero" were all very good and different to each other!
OK! We don't compare Sweden & Romania in Eurovision. Sweden has more history in ESC. But we can see the last performances. And talking about history, when Sweden and the rest of West Europe sang in Eurovision before 1990, Romania was the shield in USRR expansion. Cotton Eye Joe...
If we compare Romania and Sweden in the 00's in ESC, Romania is definitely the better one for the two
adrian oyu cant compare sweden and romania in eurovision. its like comparing tongo with brazil in football incomparable.
Zingo... only 45 years history! Pitty that there are not 52.
You like it or not, Romania is the country with the best results from 2000 until OUR days. Talking only about ESC only (not and JESC), we were two times in a row top 10 and two times in a row in top 5 and always in the final. We won a semifinal, we have the record at the most voted song (tornero), we had the best male voice from ESC's history, we made the ESC more modern. All these, without beeing in any block.
I didn't say Bobo is not Swiss. I was just wondering why two fossiles from the nineties are still bothering. And I was also wondering why the schlagerdisease is trying to infect other countries.
What's cosmopolitan about DJ Bobo competing for Switzerland? According to Wikipedia he is born in Switzerland, having a Swizz mother and granted an Italian father.
ws hahahhahhhahahaa you are soo pathetic.. schlager is nice. just because romania doesnt have any history dont go and be mean to sweden and our 45 year old esc history...hahaha
@ w s
I couldnt agree more!
DJ Bobo for Switzerland, Rednex competing in Romania? Even in the nineties this eurodancetrashhorror was awful. Romania can do better and I'm sure they will. And they don't need Swedish schlagercrap also.
The fight will be between Andra & Simplu vs. Morandi & Wassabi. And maybe Ro-Mania& Rednex.
I suppose the fight will be between Morandi and Nico...and in the end someone else will win ;-)
Rednex had some great songs in the past: "Whish you were here" and "Hold me for a while" are wonderful ballads, "spirit of the hawk" a powerful song. If their new song is something in this style I only can say: Gooo Rednex!!!
REDNEX????? Fantabolous!!!!
I also listened to those songs plus to Andreea's song Prinde-maa aprinde maa. They are not bad, but they are just not for ESC. I can't wait to listen to Morandi's song!
God I feel sick at the thought of another song writthen by Thomas G
on, especially including the insipid nursery rhyme lyrics of Gerald Borg. The Romanians would do well to keep away from that pairing who are trying to monopolise ESC. They are 100 times worse than Ralph Sigel ever was, and at least Ralph could write a decent original song.
If Morandi is the same group that sings "Love me" and "Fallin asleep" it's great! Morandi for Romania!
OMGOMGOMG Rednex hahahaha, omg, with the really nasty annika..GHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA
